The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's newest patch, numbered 1.07, has been a hot topic over the weekend. Not only has the update been seemingly delayed in parts of Europe for no given reason, it's apparently also having a negative effect on the game's frame rate, according to tech experts Digital Foundry.
Putting the title through all of the usual tests, the publication found that in some areas, Geralt's biggest adventure suffers from frame rate drops in specific areas. Now, just the other day, we posted a feature on all of the patch's improvements, and stated that, as far as we could tell, the game boasts a smoother frame rate in bustling areas such as the releases's biggest city, Novigrad.
Obviously, we can't argue with Digital Foundry's hard numbers, but we're honestly struggling to notice any negative impact on the title's performance after installing patch 1.07. Indeed, before the latest update, our copy of the game would often chug along rather badly in and around Novigrad - especially when riding around on Roach - so in our case, we can say that we're seeing an improvement in this department. Of course, we can't speak for everyone on the matter, but we'd at least encourage you lot to give the update a try regardless as it implements some superb changes - if you can actually download it, that is.
Moving on, some are claiming that developer CD Projekt Red has recalled the patch following complaints from users - specifically regarding new issues found in the Xbox One and PC versions of the release. However, if this was the case, then surely it's proven false by the fact that some users are still able to grab the patch. Either way, we hope to hear more soon, otherwise we fear that the Polish studio may have a bit of an internet riot on its hands.
So, do you have the patch? Have you noticed improvements, or has your frame rate taken a dive? Give us all the details in the comments section below.

With a lot of Digital Foundry articles though, us mere mortals without the number counting programs that they have would be hard pushed to notice, let alone care.
No patch yet
Well, CD Project Red will fix it in short time I'm sure. They've not done us wrong yet, so no need to worry.
Hope all these patch troubles are sorted in the next couple of days - sometime before the weekend I plan on swinging by CEX and trading in a few games to pick this up. Sorry AC: Unity and MGS:GZ, but it's Geralt's time to shine!
@Worlock_ed This is very true. People will complain about very minor technical issues the first chance they get, but doesn't mean they'd actually be able to notice such things if they never knew of them prior.
I got the patch installed, have tried it out and had no issues with the frame rate. It's way better for me, especially when using witcher's senses.
Well i haven't noticed any negative effects to frame rate, but no real improvements either. I only wanted better frame rate during rain to be honest, love it but normally just meditate through it
I have the patch, definitely some minor improvements here and there that are welcome, not noticed any obvious dip in frame rate personally. The game is certainly not perfect but it's easily one of the best PS4 games out there, well worth playing.
Haven't noticed any frame rate dips - I've only played a little bit though. That books tab though - that's ace.
Still no patch for me.
No patch for me yet, but I've not had many frame rate issues with it anyway except for when fighting one elemental when could barely move geralt with it stuttering all over the place...easy fight tho
Getting really sick of gamers' attitudes as of late, particularly since the new gen.
I can't remember the last time a studio provided this much post release support. Not only do they release 14 bits of excellent DLC gratis, but they have deployed roughly 10GB of patches to vastly improve the game on all platforms. And that's despite the core game being a masterpiece to begin with.
And they have done that with humility and by listening to fans (community manager even apologised for no free DLC this week due to them doubling down on patch 1.07). STILL people moan and complain about the smallest things. On CDPR's site, there's abuse thrown at them...
I've lost faith.
No patch yet but it is becoming amusing at the Basil Fawlty-esque way it has been deployed.
It is not just gamers but everyone on the internet complaining about everything.
I have never understood all the fuss about the FPS and if a game is 1080 or not. Surely it should be about whether the game is fun to play. Prettiness and smooth frame-rates doesn't save a bad game.
@ComicBookGuy Well said! And I'm with you. I've gotten to where I don't even read comments anymore(well, try not to), only reason I read these was to see if anyone else was still having issues. I am not having any, nor did I have any prior to 1.07.
@Fenriswolf- @john_c didn't have any real problems pre patch, have no problems post patch and I love the inventory and movement changes!
It's funny, I have a monster PC which runs witcher 3 on High/Ultra-ish at 1080p at 60fps locked. I chose to play it on PS4 even though I have a PC copy (for reasons of comfort!). The PS4 version in my comparison runs at near high PC detail but at 30-45fps.
But hey, people need something to moan about I guess...
Just give me the patch dammit, I don't care about slight framerate dips..I just want to play the game already All I care about is better movement and storage chests.
@ComicBookGuy I think there's always room for reasonable complaining - especially if it helps things get done - but you're spot on in this case. Some of the abuse I've seen hurled at a developer that has otherwise done everything in its power to create a superb game is shocking, and makes the gaming community as a whole look bad.
I received the patch a few days ago, Friday I think. I have definitely noticed some improvements in various areas but, I have also noticed some negative issues too. The main issue being, when I enter the inventory screen my swords, amour, potions and crafting materials will sometimes take several minutes to load in. I've also noticed the same issue on the ingame inventory radial. I took around 3 minutes for the potion and bomb images to load in which is a little annoying given that I really needed to know which bombs I had setup in the radial.
I've also noticed that from time to time the edges of the screen will go all blurry all of a sudden. That issue seems to happen the most. In regards to the frame rate, I thought it was alot more solid in the areas that usually course the dips, thought to be honest, I rarely noticed frame rate dips before the update. I have never been great at noticing frame rate dips in any game, unless its a major did. I guess thats a good thing where I am concerned.
I am just happy we finally got the loot boxes and they removed the weight of ingredients for crafting. Its surprising how much of a difference it makes.
I would like to know what the alternative movement for Garalt is as I haven't been able to notice any changes to his movement or the controls.
If anyone knows how/what it changes I would really appreciate any info.
The Witcher 3 is still my favourite game so far this gen, well, atleast until I get Fallout 4 that is.
@ComicBookGuy
Evolution Studios.
To anyone that sends abusive messages or comments to CD Projekt Red, you need to grow up, you spoilt, petulant, ignorant, immature, poor excuses for a human being.
Their is far to much negativity these days towards developers. Its totally understandable to feel upset when you receive a game that you've worked hard to pay for, only for it to be broken. When I say broken, I mean broken like Assassin's Creed Unity was.
Do you people believe that by hurling abuse at a studio that it helps other in the same situation or incourages said studio to work harder.
If I was a developer that worked at CD Projekt Red and I read some of the abusive comments sent in by ungrateful gamers, it would put me off wanting to give out free dlc and adding requested features post release for free. These developers work very hard on these games for years and alot of the time they don't get to spend that much time with there familys. And how are the rewarded by certain fans, sent abusive and horrible messages.
When I see some of the negativity and the abusive language on forums it makes me feel ashamed to be a part of the gaming community. A community that I have loved for 30 years.
Surely you people (those that are abusive) don't talk to others or behave in that in manner in real life, so why do it online and in a genre we all love. There is enough negativity in the press regarding violence in video games. Don't help these people by proving what morons you and allowing them to believe we're all aggressive & abusive which is coursed my gaming.
Just like these stupid and pointless console wars or PC master race crap. We alll have something in common, we all love gaming and as such, we should share in that joy and get along.
And by the way, no, im not a tree hugging hippie lol. I am just sick of all the negativity in the world and the last place I wanna see/hear it is in gaming. A medium I use to chill, have fun and meet like minded people.
Peace out man pmsl
@WARDIE The alternative movement basically just makes Geralt more responsive. It's perhaps not too noticeable until you switch from one to the other, but there's a pretty big difference once you see it. With it enabled, you can turn far easier while running, for example.
@banacheck yes! Actually was gonna mention them in my initial comment, but thought about a notable difference: Driveclub was very broken at launch. They did amazingly well and I truly believe they worked 24/7 to improve the game, and the DLC since has been excellent, but they kind of "owed" us as their customers to fix the game.
Witcher 3 on the other hand is far better than any number of broken games where the dev basically didn't even care to fix it (Arkham Origins for example), but nevertheless, you are right; they're a great studio.
I downloaded the patch last week, i like it n it has many improvements, but yea there is a frame rate drop that varies from a place to another, u'll easily notice the frame rate drops annoyingly in the swamps for example. Am very sure there will be a fix very soon.
Some people may commend them for post-release support, but it's very rare a game NEEDS this much work after release. What's really happened here is we've all bought an early access game that's moving closer to a releasable state. That's why people are angry.
@Ja-lol The game has run at 20fps in swamps - amongst many other places - for over 2 months now, across about 6 patches. I don't think they'll fix that.
It's more than just playable, the game still amazing, I can't notice any fps issues. I barely can tell the difference between 30, 45, 60 fps, so f*** off, with this boring talk "ohhh the frame rate fell from 30 to 29, the game is broke, I can't play me me me"
@Matroska I think the keyword there is 'needs', though. I don't think Wild Hunt has 'needed' a lot of the fixes that it's received. They've improved it, sure, but it wasn't exactly a broken mess when it launched - at least on PS4. In fact, I'd still argue that it's been a superb game from day one, and it's only getting better.
That said, I think technical issues are all but expected from open world titles these days, which is undeniably a sad state of affairs. But how many other developers would have gone to the lengths that CD Proket has to improve the game? I certainly couldn't see the likes of Ubisoft going beyond fixing anything but the game's most basic technical flaws, for example.
The new patch is great, movement and visuals much smoother. Lovely inventory system and "dirty funds" fixed. Thank you CD Projeckt......don't mind the haters.
SCEE undoubtedly screwed up the distribution.
lmao can't please everyone. This is always the case when trying to deliver a quality product (of any kind) to consumers.
