@Ravix Personally I always liked it better than Gothic, but it was also more simplistic so there was less to get wrong.
Oblivion is comparable to Skyrim but with much more mindless flailing and a near total lack of hit animations / enemy AI. If people think Skyrim's combat is bad today, it's got nothing on Oblivion!
Praying this is still more than just a graphical overhaul. I have very fond memories of Oblivion (was my favourite game for years) but the gameplay systems have aged terribly.
@J2theEzzo I think that's the worst part about this, it feels like the developers didn't actually understand what was needed to make the game better. The decisions that were made for the Season 2 update were crazy.
We can only hope that the team now has some understanding of what players want and more importantly, what the game itself needs in order to thrive again.
No surprise Sony is attempting to capitalise on the TV show's second season. I bet this'll sell surprisingly well, especially if it gets pushed hard on the PS Store.
Casual gamers will see the 'Complete' edition and think that's the one they need.
@ChrisDeku Nah, same thing in this instance. All the mentioned battle royale games are live service, which is what the headline's getting at (as an overall trend).
@Oram77 No this is a tease of the teaser that already teased the teaser that Square Enix teased when it dropped that teaser of the last teaser, which in itself was a teaser of the tease from the previous teasers that teased the upcoming tease before this latest tease even teased the teaser to begin with.
@BecauseBecause Like Sammy suggests in the article, I think it's just a handful of examples that colour the whole conversation.
Game discs having no data on them whatsoever do exist, but they're definitely in the minority (for now). A lot of people see the headlines and then they just assume it's the new norm (which it isn't... for now!).
@Deadp001 It's just how fighting games have changed in terms of business model.
Professional, competitive play is now a huge draw thanks to how easy it is to actually watch tournaments online; the rise of esports has changed everything with regards to sponsors and funding.
So now, fighting games have to be kept 'balanced' to ensure the credibility of competitive play. If the game looks unbalanced during professional matches, it's a bad look for the game and its developer / publisher. Advertising goes out the window.
Updates and patches are a necessary component of how the modern fighting game model works. They're basically live service games, complete with seasonal DLC. They cost a lot more to make and maintain, but they make much more profit over time (assuming the game is good!).
@Rich33 Capcom's said performance improvements are coming, but yeah, it's disappointing to see that there are no adjustments in this update (according to the patch notes at least).
Very rarely seen a backlash of this magnitude aimed at a fighting game. I don't play as much Tekken 8 as I'd like to these days, but after watching videos and streams of Season 2, I can totally understand the frustration.
Some truly mad decisions are being made by the Tekken balancing team. Not even sure what it is they're trying to accomplish.
Personally I'm not sold (yet). I think it looks like a significant and welcome improvement over the Switch, and Mario Kart World looks fantastic, but the software lineup just isn't there for me at launch.
But I say that as someone who's played basically all of those third party games on the PS5, so maybe I'm not quite the target audience.
Can we please start actually reading articles before commenting on them? I get it's fun to dump on Ubisoft and Assassin's Creed but some of these comments are worryingly ignorant.
@naruball @Ryo_Hazuki Wilds has already sold 10 million — 99.9% of games released these days could only dream of hitting even half of that in their entire lifetime!
@ChrisDeku I played the Onimusha remaster not too long ago and had totally forgotten how short it is. Stumbled into one of the last boss fights after just a few hours and I was like "oh, right, it's a PS2 game!"
I love my massive modern RPGs but part of me misses those two-session games of the PS2 generation. Such tight design.
For me personally, I think there'll come a point where the devs need to reevaluate Heat as a mechanic.
I get that it's the main gimmick of Tekken 8 and it is a cool concept on paper, but it's so overpowering that it pushes Tekken's core systems into the background and massively dilutes the gameplay.
Hoping Season 2 isn't quite as insane as it's starting to sound.
@themightyant It's Soul Society and Arrancar, basically, plus some extra original story scenarios (but they're character-focused and nothing too special).
I have wanted to watch the new stuff but just never got around to it. If this game had covered it I probably would have in preparation!
@Coffeeglitch For what it's worth I do think you might still get some enjoyment out of it... but like you say, full price is a big ask based on what you actually get. Maybe one to keep an eye on down the line when it goes on sale.
@Areus Maybe, but I get why it's a fighting game. At this point in time Bleach is a bit unproven in terms of popularity so Bandai was never going to give this project a really big budget — and I think it would have needed that to be a proper action game or something along those lines.
Personally I think Bleach works well as a fighting game since so much of the source material is one-on-one duels, but it would have been nice to get something better than this.
If anyone's got any questions about the game or the review, let me know and I'll try to answer them.
I used to love Bleach back in the day, but I did start to drop off the manga / anime during the Arrancar arc — it just never lived up to the Soul Society stuff for me (and many others, going by how the series' popularity dwindled over time).
I was nostalgic and hyped when this game was announced, and like the review says, it hits home for the first few sessions. But for me, the depth and overall quality just isn't there, despite it looking and sounding great.
A real shame, but maybe a good starting point for a better sequel? Hard to say how this is going to sell, though.
@KonstantTrouble Shadows has had the second biggest launch in series history in terms of sales revenue (only behind Valhalla). That's all Ubisoft will care about given its financial situation.
Just remains to be seen whether Shadows' success is actually enough to pull the company from the brink (or at least set it back on the right track).
@jolteon23 SEGA and Square Enix haven't been able to top their previous share price records recently — but yeah, all the reports I've read have suggested that SEGA is doing very well for itself lately.
@SystemAddict I believe the hideout frame rate is being fixed as part of the game's first major update. I'm sure I read somewhere that it's actually a bug!
@Coffeeglitch Yeah I'm glad I use lance a lot of the time when fighting gold crown monsters. I just stand still and hold block if I can't see what's happening.
@NathanUC I primarily use the lance, and I find that my character just gets swallowed up in Gor Mag's model — partly because of how erratic its movement can be, and partly because of those bloody wings.
I do agree that fighting it feels a bit off sometimes. Some of its attacks feel weirdly telegraphed to me, but like you say, could be a skill issue!
Hmmm, sounds a bit disappointing which is a shame.
@IssyVeedz do you think some of your complaints could be addressed through updates? Do some of the flaws at least seem fixable or are they a bit too baked in?
Game already looks really, really nice on PS5 Pro so I'd be very interested in seeing what the PSSR upgrade is like. Nice to hear that the devs worked closely with Sony, too.
@Cornpop76 For all the negativity Ubisoft gets (and don't get me wrong, some of it is deserved) the devs always do an amazing job with the actual open worlds in the new AC games. Stunning realisations, and they often get overlooked because of the objective markers.
@Scarface82G1 @Johnnycide It's always interesting to see different people's takes on a long series like AC. Opinions always seem so split on specific entries.
For what it's worth, I really like Valhalla but I can totally understand why others might not. Falls into the Odyssey camp for me, where it's barely an AC game but I think it's a rock solid historical open world adventure.
Just before more comments come in, can we please try to stay on topic and remain respectful to each other.
Regardless of your opinion on the character in question, this whole thing is about the misinformation that's being spread — let's try and have a reasonable discussion.
@Alps_Stranger As far as I'm aware, the protagonists don't romance anyone if you play the canon mode. Seems like a very player-focused aspect of the game.
@Wesker Just to clarify, the information going around on sites like Twitter is partly falsified in order to rile people up and get reactions.
There are multiple romance options for both characters in Shadows, and it's entirely up to the player whether they engage in them through clearly marked dialogue options.

@BlaizeV Totally agree, but Wolverine's probably a special case since it's a Marvel property.
The contract Sony / Insomniac have with Marvel probably includes them announcing it as soon as production started.
At least, that's the only logical explanation I can think of, because we know how secretive Sony is with every other project.
