Re: PS Store Spring Sale Goes Live with 500 PS5, PS4 Deals

ShiningStar

@blinx01 What about people who have no interest in disc-based media, prefer the convenience of digital games, and who aren't bothered in the slightest about trade-in or purchase price because they aren't poor?

Do you think they'd buy a disc console where the drive would never get any use?

So many questions....

Re: Hands On: Maybe Don't Buy Disco Elysium on PS5 at Launch

ShiningStar

Yuk...just watched a bit of a 4K YouTube PS5 'let's play' and my God is it stuttery and janky! Not Cyberpunk launch levels, but on the way there. Seeing that has totally killed my desire to play it for a while, which is definitely a good thing with the state it's in right now.

Re: Play Hitman 3 for Free with a Starter Pack Until Monday

ShiningStar

I intend buying this on a 50% sale but I'll be declining this free trial, but only because once I get to the end of it I'll be frustrated at not being able to carry on. By similar logic I wait for weekly TV dramas to conclude before binge watching the lot!

Of course, if you're new to Hitman and just want to try to see if it's your sort of game or not then this is great.

Re: The PS Vita Messaging System Is Also Going Offline

ShiningStar

@Playstation not just you, I got mine in 2013 and ended up selling a year or so later. UI was appalling, nearly as bad as the switch and that's saying something.

For me, I just wasn't using it much once the novelty wore off and after I completed Persona 4 Golden there weren't many decent games that appealed to me.

Nice tech in the machine especially the screen, but I realised portable gaming just isn't for me.

Re: Mini Review: UnderMine (PS4) - Addictive Rogue-Lite Strikes Gold

ShiningStar

@Scratchy_Seal I really enjoy these type of games but never seem to get around to putting serious time into any of them! Sure I'll pick this one up too as it sounds good and I love the ones with persistent upgrades, but will endeavour to stay strong for a sale as I always do for these kind of games.

I have put a lot of time into the Binding Of Isaac and Don't Starve. However, I've hardly played Dead Cells, Slay The Spire, and Enter The Gungeon. Even worse, Children of Morta, Moonlighter, Curse of the Dead Gods all bought and not even started yet lol

Line you, I spend way more time playing indies than the AAA stuff.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 Detailed, and It's Absolutely Massive

ShiningStar

@Fyz306903 I pondered on your question and actually no, I don't think even a 50% sale would coax me back. That's said as someone who at one point had this marked as a rare day one purchase and who was scouring the news daily for any more info about it.

I'm just so turned off by everything that happened with it, I've mentally checked out - there are so many other games deserving of my time that Cyberpunk is just not relevant to me anymore.

Re: Pinball FX Is Coming to PS5 in 2021, But You'll Need to Rebuy Your Tables

ShiningStar

@Robocod @RevengeFan Yes, there wasn't much left once those tables left the game...I remember it all being announced suddenly as well, had a bit of a scramble to ensure I got the ones I wanted before they went. And as you point out, years on from that it's not like Zen pinball has even exercised their rights on many of them, a shame.

Mercifully, they do all still appear when I boot the game up on my PS5, which I wasn't necessarily expecting. Gameplay seems fine too, at least for the tables I've played.

Re: Pinball FX Is Coming to PS5 in 2021, But You'll Need to Rebuy Your Tables

ShiningStar

@Robocod Pinball Arcade was by Farsight Studios, I believe. I probably bought a few more packs than I should have done really

Got them all on sales, but I end up playing my favourite Williams tables most of the time anyway! I guess I'm a sucker for it because I love the real thing, but Zen never really clicked for me when I tried the demo's. Whole thing felt too arcade-like with pop-up screens and the like.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy a PS1, PS2, or PS3 Emulator for PS5?

ShiningStar

Nope. The thought of playing old games is almost always far better than the reality. I put endless hours into my Spectrum and C64 games in the 80s, with super fond memories of a lot of them. But that's where they should stay imo - I've never wanted to get one of the many emulators freely available for those machines. The graphics and gameplay would be embarrassingly bad now, and would also spoil said memories.

Re: Reaction: What Next for PlayStation?

ShiningStar

@Exlee300p I do agree. It used to be moans about the value of ps+ games, or the lack of info about PS5 in the run-up to launch, or the supposed weaker hardware compared to MS. Since those arguments are dead in the water now, I guess it has to be something else for some people.

I'd also add that this is not some kind of red or blue pill scenario anyway. If any of us really wants a series X as well as, or even instead of, a PS5 then capitalism reliably informs me that that is actually entirely possible.

Some people are just glass half-empty types. It will always be thus.

Re: Reaction: What Next for PlayStation?

ShiningStar

@Dezzy70 in terms of TVs, I hear you. I've bought decent Sony televisions for decades, but as things stand I may have to go LG OLED next time.

Re sound bars, some of them have multiple HDMI inputs of their own so you could do it the other way round and run everything into it and then a single HDMI out to the TV . I do that with my Yamaha YSP 2700, which is an amazing bit of kit. Passes through 4K and HDR too, although admittedly not 2.1 signals.

Sony have dropped the ball on their TVs though right now. Real shame.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Expectations for PSVR 2 on PS5?

ShiningStar

@DragonSlayer1759 anything like VR makes me very very sick...even some first person games do. and this goes back to 90s stuff when 3d gaming first took off, right up to current games.

If you get it as bad as me, then it's a no brainer to avoid it. I don't even miss it, because who wants to give themselves a headache like a hangover just to play a game?! Not me.

Just one of those things.

Re: Last Year, the UK's Gaming Purchases Were 85 Per Cent Digital

ShiningStar

@Paranoimia With you on that last point. Whilst I'm totally digital on all types of media, I wouldn't even consider buying a game day one on digital. Look at the discounts already available by waiting a few months (and getting a better performing and feature complete game too via patches into the bargain)

All the rest of my digital media, from music, to TV shows, movies and phone apps, comes gratis anyway so I don't begrudge spending a little on gaming.

Re: Last Year, the UK's Gaming Purchases Were 85 Per Cent Digital

ShiningStar

@themightyant The landscape was very, very different in 2013 when MS tried it compared to today. And to take that changing market forward another gen to, what, 2027ish in all likelihood?

Simply cannot see a future for discs when we all get there. Even today, I haven't used one for years for any form of media and I miss them not one iota.

Re: PS5 Players Unable to Upgrade Yakuza: Like a Dragon for Free

ShiningStar

@danlk1ng yep exactly that for me! and tbh, having stopped messing around with discs for any other form of media years ago, there is just no way I'd ever want to go back to that for games! More so in fact in this age of faster loading, swapping etc.

But you can guarantee any topic concerning digital will garner the usual queries from disc users, probably for years to come!
