Yakuza: Like a Dragon finally launched on PlayStation 5 earlier this week, following the end of an Xbox exclusivity period on next-gen hardware. The often insane RPG runs better than ever on Sony's new system, and even though we had already played it to death on PS4, we've been enjoying it all over again on PS5. At its best, we think that it's an engrossing urban adventure, as noted in our Yakuza: Like a Dragon PS5 review.
But as always, we want to know what you think. Have you played Yakuza: Like a Dragon? Did you buy it back on PS4, or have you been waiting for the PS5 version? Let us know in our polls, and then feed us as many honest thoughts as you can in the comments section below.

I have sworn an oath to play the Yakuza (Kiryu) games in order, ending with Like a Dragon. Consider this game my most anticipated but I need to earn it.
No, not played it but in time-honoured internet tradition I should still give an opinion about it as if I had. It's a 7.
1st yakuza game I will be missing. Why? Because the turned based combat turned me off of it.Maybe I will try if in future, they give as ps plus game.
I was planning on getting my copy but PS5 changed my plans to wait for that version but I can’t even get a PS5
Currently making my way through the mainline Yakuza games ever since October of last year, getting the plat for all of them, and I'm close to completing Y5 now.
So it'll still take a little while longer, but I'll definitely get around to Like a Dragon. Looks fun as hell.
Have only played Yakuza 0 but I am thinking of getting this next as it is turn based; I found the brawling tedious towards the end of 0
I played it on PC day one back in November. It's one of the very few games that managed to surpass the very high expectations I had for it. I loved it so much. A masterpiece in my eyes. It's easily the best game I've played since Super Mario Odyssey. I rarely give games above an 8 on this site's grading scale, but Yakuza 7 was easily a 9 for me. I could go on and on about how much I adored it.
Only about 10hrs in but it's far surpassed my expectations. I'm loving every minute and I can't wait to dig in more. I'd say it has the potential to be my favourite Yakuza game. Definitely give it a 9.
Yep, bought and played it on Xbox Series X and that’s not an option!!! I’d give it a solid 8.
I won't buy it since they changed the combat system to turn based. I'll wait for Judgement 2.
Not there yet. Currently at Yakuza 4.
I would play this game today, but I have a digital console, and don’t want to pay £55 for a game that really did come out a few months ago. I’d happily pay £35/£40 so will wait for a sale. Excited for whenever that day comes.
Too Expensive at the moment i'll wait till it's £7.99...............Now if we were living in a world where I could only buy it in a shop then it would be a day 1 purchase scramble.....The Digital store really has chilled my purchasing habits I can relax and watch the price drop in real time(yes the pesky PS5 has had an influence on price drops but that is just a minor niggle). 🤦♂️
Still on Yakuza 4, took a bit of a break from the franchise for now. I’ll get there!
@Broosh I made a similar vow...I'll see you in a couple of years! 🙂
@Broosh Same here! I grabbed Kiwami 1 in a sale a few months back and am really enjoying it so far.
@Hyperluminal You go, Gamespot!
@GKO900
My situation exactly. I want to play this, but since it's got a PS5 version, I want to wait 'till I get a 5. This might be one of the first games I play on it, whenever it finally becomes available in stores.
@RBMango That's good to hear. How strategic is the turn-based combat? When it's done well, like XCOM 2, I prefer turn-based to button mashing.
@Hyperluminal The internet doesn't review like that unfortunately. It's either crap or a masterpiece can't have an ok or good game nowadays.
Yup, have it on PS4. If ya like Yakuza games this is definitely worth a play through. It’s fun, funny, nice, story, awesome funny characters, and lots of stuff to do. You can play Virtua Fighter 5 on here, although you can do that with other Yakuza games. I give it a 9.
9/10 for me. Finished it on Xbox last year, one of the most fun games I’ve spent 80 hours with.
Definitely interested, I like the two Yakuza games I played (3 & 4) and I do love my RPGs.
So much stuff to play though, so little time.
The poll needs an option for "bought and played on other platform (X1, XSX|S, PC)."
I bought it as my launch day game for XSX. I haven't played through the whole game yet, I'm kind of savoring it, but I gave it a 9. It has hiccups, especially where the engine performance is concerned, but the game is utterly stellar in every way. Easily a JRPG equal to P5.
I'm having a really great time playing this game!
@ShiningStar Best of luck to you! I'm halfway through Kiwami 2 so far.
Not yet. I only started with the Yakuza series late last year by playing Yakuza 0. My next one will be Yakuza Kiwami 1, so Like A Dragon is going to have a long wait.
Played the PS4 version on the PS5. Had a blast. I'd give it a 9/10.
@Broosh Confession time - I haven't played any of the games. The whole series, apart from Like A Dragon, is sat proudly on my PS4 shelf and I know that this game will most probably be my first PS5 purchase. I love the idea of the series but I'm kind of intimidated by the time I'd need to invest in them.
@__jamiie Understandable! I was the same way, but like most games, it flies by once you get into it. While there's a ton of stuff to do in-game, the story itself usually moves rather quick if you focus on it, so don't feel pressured to do everything.
@Broosh Thanks. I'm sure once I get started there'll be no turning back.
Just finished 0 just need to play Kiwami, Kiwami 2, 3,4,5, and 6, so should be playing this game around 2042
I wish there had been an option for bought it on PS4 and on ps5 - that’s what I did
Still gotta get back to Yakuza Zero at some point and work my way up..
Ordered it today for the ps4. Own every yakuza game but completed none 🤣
Nope.
+10/10
-☆☆☆/☆☆☆☆☆
+Must buy!
-too much water
Not played it, so I gave it a 0 score.
Thats what they do on Metacritic
Actually played it on PC (It was my handheld game for the month)
It is outstanding... 9 easy. Play it on whatever you can - well worth the price.
Played it on Xbox SX when it came out (I know sometimes this comunity likes to pretend Xbox does not exist, but you could had just added "yes bought it on other system")
It was a fantastic turn based rpg, with a wonderful light tone, a soap opera like story, and a way more charming protagonist than the rest of the series.
I love how they mixed up turn based rpg battles in a modern urban setting and with realistic visuals. These days it feels no one wants to make a turn based rpg that isn't a fantasy game with cartoony visuals.
Question.
I notice that the ps5 version is more expensive than the ps4 version. If i was to buy the ps4 version and get the free upgrade would i get exactly the same thing?
Haven't bought it yet since I have 0 but I've yet to play it!
I don't think I have enough time to play the whole Kiryu saga but I wanna try put the older style before jumping into 7.
Yakuza always intrigued me, but now that it's turn-based it's a must play for me.
I'll admit though that 7 is one of my most anticipated games to play, way more than the original 6 cause I love a good turn based combat system and this one sounds awesome, just like the job system!
So yeah, I'm exactly the kind of weirdo who'll get into the series precisely thanks to the new combat system lol
Does anyone have any recommendations on which order to play these in? PS4 release order or chronological order starting from Zero?
@hulkie it will never be on ps+, just don't dream of it
@__jamiie I played them all, here's your order: 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7. Any order besides this one is *****
@OthmaneAD Sounds like a plan mate. Thanks.
An 8 from me. Great world, characters and ideas. The story didn't pay off as well as it began imo but that's the case with a couple of the Yakuza games that have very silly twists. A sequel with refined combat mechanics and maybe Ichiban delving further into politics would be great.
I might get it on sale, but i have decided to skip it, just cause i got a sense of closure with Yakuza 6 and want to leave it there.
@OrigamiCrane Same for me. Thats why I haven't played Final Fantasy series. So I am eagerly waiting for FF 16. They ditched the turn based combat in this one. Judgement 2 is also on my list.
