Dragon's Dogma 2 Feedback

There's apparently a really big difference in what players enjoy about Dragon's Dogma 2, depending on where they're from.

This is according to two of the game's key figures, producer Naoto Oyama and director Kento Kinoshita — the latter being in charge of the soon-to-be-released Dark Arisen expansion.

In a recent interview with Automaton, the pair throw up some super interesting quotes, touching on topics like game design, and how Capcom utilises player feedback.

In particular, Oyama stresses just how much said feedback can change based on a player's region.

He explains: "There is a significant gap in how Dragon’s Dogma 2 is perceived by players in Japan and Asia compared with those in the West."

"Players in the West tend to place greater importance on a harsh, realistic sense of adventure. They refer to systems that impose challenges on the player as 'friction', and generally view them positively. They appreciate the game creating difficult situations where, for instance, it’s not possible to fast travel."

Oyama continues: "Meanwhile, players in Japan and Asia tend to perceive those same elements more as 'frustration' caused by the game, so we received many requests for a more comfortable, convenient, and accessible experience."

These comments add some important context to the recent game-changing updates that the developer has dropped for Dragon's Dogma 2.

For example, the inclusion of the Eternal Ferrystone — a key item that can be used to fast travel between locations an unlimited number of times — seems like a direct response to the feedback that players in Japan and Asia provided.

"To respond to both sides, our approach has been to add new options without breaking existing mechanics. In the end, we received positive feedback from both sides globally, so I think that was a good outcome," Oyama concludes.

Kinoshita also provides insight: "Rather than choosing one side or the other, though, we’ve always operated on the belief that we should give players options."

Indeed, the latest patch was met with real positivity, and it's set the stage for what should be a fantastic DLC adventure in Dark Arisen.
