Sony has just about managed to continue its streak of weekly PlayStation Store sales, but this latest edition is hardly worth shouting about. Less than 100 deals have been uploaded to entice the big spenders amongst you into parting with any cash, meaning this week may feel like a bit of a dud if you’re hunting for a noteworthy discount. The theming is based on prequels and sequels, which should give you some idea of what to expect. Every price drop is available until 25th March 2021, and all are live right now across both the EU and US storefronts. Let's get stuck into things and take a look at what we've got this week then.
The best deal of the lot is probably Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, which is half price at £13.49/$14.99. Spyro: Reignited Trilogy is also well priced at £13.99/$15.99 while the complete season bundle for Life Is Strange 2 drops to £10.38/$12.77. Then there's Shenmue III for £13.74/$14.99, The Surge 2 at £11.24/$12.49, and Assassin's Creed Origins can be picked up for £10.99/$11.99. The Mega Man X Legacy Collection has its price cut in half to £7.99/$9.99, Romancing Saga 2 is down to £9.99/$12.49, and God Eater 2: Rage Burst comes in at £6.74/$8.99.
Unfortunately, that's pretty much it in terms of deals you're likely to care for this week. With no PS5 titles discounted either, this really does feel like an off week for the PS Store. Nevertheless, UK and EU users can head on through here to check out every game included in the new prequels and sequels sale. Maybe you can spot a diamond in the rough? The US sale page isn't live at the time of writing, but the deals themselves are if you search for them. And if you don't find anything that takes your fancy, don't forget the PS Store Essential Picks Sale is live for another week. Will you be buying anything? Tempted by the Phoenix Wright collection. Have always been curious to try that series.
@Quintumply As you might be able to tell from my profile picture, I would strongly recommend it! All three games are wonderful, with the second being the weakest overall but makes up for it by having its final case being the best one in the series. The games are also best played in order, so this trilogy is a great place to start!
Unbelievable, how could you not mention Knack II, the best game on the system? /s
Anyway, Ace Attorney is great, so I'd recommend Trilogy to anyone who's on the fence. Nothing for me on this sale, however.
Thinking about Saga Scarlet Grace...
@BranJ0 I have the games on my Switch, feel like those type of games suit handheld. Still recommend for those interested though.
@OrigamiCrane Apollo Justice is my least favourite game in the main series, all of the cases except the first one are pretty weak, which then makes the game feel even worse because every subsequent case is a step down from your opening hours of the game.
Dual Destinies is a big step up, it's definitely got some problems holding it back from reaching the top heights of the series, but it's really enjoyable - I'd say it was on par with the first game
Spirit of Justice is absolutely phenomenal, and is only just edged out by Trials and Tribulations as my favourite game in the series.
So overall, I'd recommend you play the games after Apollo Justice, you've got a lot of great ace attorney there!
@AdamNovice Agreed, I played them on my 3DS and can't really imagine them working as well on a TV - I'd recommend people get it on their switch over a playstation. That said, with lockdown still continuing for a couple of months, I guess it doesn't really matter if it's handheld or not!
I’d be interested in a few of these games if I didn’t know they were already on PS Now. Would also be interested in Shenmue 3, but not at this price. Cheaper physical.
Finally, a sale that do not bother me at all.
Seems I've developed an BACKLOG.
Tempted to buy Spyro, but still have 4 unfinished games installed on my console and with the way ps plus has been giving away absolute gems there's a chance I'll have enough games for the remaining year
Sequels? That's the whole ps4 catalog except for HZD and Ghost of Tsushima
@BranJ0 I played through the trilogy on my Switch exclusively on the TV. I have played through the originals so many times on my DS/3DS though that the novelty of seeing it on a 55" TV was great.
Been tempted to pick it up on PS4 again just for the trophies but would need a bigger discount to quadruple dip on the original trilogy.
Escapists 2 GOTY edition for £8 is tempting. Just not sure how fiddly or enjoyable it would be on console?
Shenmue 3 dlc bought. I guess I better install the disc later so the dlc installs 😀
Ace Attorney is great stuff.
Nothing really catching my eye on this one
@BranJ0 so is the ace attorney games literally you just defending clients and stuff or is there more too it than that? Have heard a lot of ppl say it's good but for some reason never got around to playing them, but at that price for trilogy I am tempted. Is there a lot of replayability in them or are they play once and done? Also does the story change depending on how well/bad you do?
> With no PS5 titles discounted either
There is a PS5 game included in the sale, Mxgp 2020. It's not a good deal for it though (30% off), so basically there's no PS5 deals.
@Daleaf The core gameplay is simple: you're either in court, calling out witnesses' crap by poking holes in their claims or presenting evidence that contradicts their claim, or you're moving around different areas, which are static images, looking for evidence. The characters and the story of each individual case, and the overarching story spanning all three games, is the biggest hook.
It's not a sim. The legal system is loosely based on the Japanese court system but is greatly altered to become its own entity. So characters will do things that are meant to hinder your progress and feel cheap, which makes earning that "not guilty" verdict all the sweeter.
It's a one-and-done game. Once you finish it, you've seen everything. There are no alternate paths. If you fail a case, it's game over and you have to start again. The one exception is the final case in the second game. If you fail to present the right item to the right person, you get the bad ending, which doesn't affect your overall game because if you continue to the third game, it ignores the events that happen.
I highly recommend it, especially when it's on sale to better justify the one-and-done nature of the game.
I played most of these titles on the nintendo DS and the anime covered everything. Is the port even worth the price they are charging?
@StrawberryPink cheers mate, yea it does sound good, might have to grab it while it's on sale, and for 13 even if I end up not liking it it's not too bad of a hit. Will put it on the side till I finish final fantasy.
Not very often I find something I want in these sales that I haven't already bought. Even with that being said, this one seems to be a particularly bland pile of the brown smelly stuff.
I really wanna get the AA trilogy on ps4 to show more support, but i already have them hacked into my 3ds so I'm probably gonna play them there instead. The 1 game is very fun
Seeing as the great ace attorney collection is coming to ps4 and only the 1st game is fan translated. I'm gladly gonna buy those when they finally release. Its weird how AA and danganronpa seem to be the only games that i know of with this type of gameplay. I'd love to see more VNs like these
