Impossibly Hard PS3 Cute-'Em-Up Gets a Modern Revamp This September 1

Yokai blasting vertical cute-‘em-up Mamorukun ReCurse first launched in arcades all the way back in 2008, but was eventually ported to the PS3 a few years later. And now the impenetrably old-school shooter is making its way to PS5 and PS4 on 25th September.

For those unfamiliar, here’s how the blurb introduces this bullet hell blast from the past:

“Dive into this modern remaster of a cult classic arcade shooter and embark on an adventure filled with breath-taking environments, bizarre creatures, and bullets to save the Netherworld and seal the gate to the World of Darkness. Players take control of Mamoru, who, after his untimely death, wakes up in The Netherworld. A brief meeting with three new friends is swiftly followed by the energetic Fululu explaining he, Mayuno, Kinya, and Beniko are the only hope of stopping the invasion of darkness about to consume The Netherworld.”

The press release teases Curse Bullets, which will allow you to “alter the difficulty of the game” on the fly. “Wipe out smaller enemies, clear projectiles from the screen, or power up larger enemies, making them harder to defeat,” the description reads. “The greater the risk, the higher the score.”

All of the title’s previously released DLC will be included day one, along with other improvements like widescreen support and more modern twin-stick shooter controls.
