Re: Sony Seemingly Censors Controversial Senran Kagura Mode

RPE83

@MysticMask
It's the context in which it is presented.

Summer Lesson - you mentor a young girl and although you CAN do some pervy things, the presentation is that you are literally supposed to be mentoring a ln attractive young female student no matter how big the #wink wink# is for the other stuff.

Persona 5 - Ann's boobs are remarked on for being large by fellow teenage students and attention is repeatedly paid to them. It's not inconceivable that as part of the story of a group of teenagers in a school setting teenage boys would lust after Ann. Whether so much attention should be repeatedly paid to them is pervy or an accurate representation of teenage boys, that's a fair discussion.

if the game had a mode where you could take pictures of Ann's pants and fondle her privates and boobs , for no other reason than "well, yeah, hot", that would be wrong. If anyone doesn't think it is, I suggest taking some time to re-evaluate your attitude to women and stop hiding behind arguments along the lines of "...b..b.but men have honour killed women for years in other cultures for stepping out of line, who am i, some kind of western SJW, to question their time honoured cultural traditions?"

Fist of the North Star - Civilization is depicted as having fell, so normal rules of decency do not apply. The strong are are preying on the weak, one man who despicted as having a strong moral compass uses ultra violence as a means to dish out justice in this post apocalyptic society on these villains. Is it too much? Again, that's a debate.

For what it's worth, I thought GTA V having Trevor torture while lamenting the pointlessness of torture was a miss of the mark to make a point as part of a broader game experience , but still acceptable. If they had a Trevor's Torture Room mode where the only aim was to torture people, that would be wrong too and I wouldn't be up in arms for a ban.

I can understand people saying "nothing should be censored and society should be exposed to everything" as an argument and can see some validity in it, but would probably air on the side of "people are generally idiots and we need a little protection from ourselves". That makes more sense than people missing the point of this mode removal , willfully or otherwise.

Cheers,

RP.

@Flaming_Kaiser
My point was more it's utter dross in my pure opinion but ultimately Sony should release here and Japan, stand by the "art", and see what the regional classification laws decide or decide themselves as a company they don't think it morally represents them as a brand and remove it totally. Fight for the art or admit it's crap.

I like anime and Japanese cultural stuff and don't mind a lot of the titillation and risqué stuff, but just because other cultures have long standing morally dubious practices and view points, doesn't make them morally or ethically sound. I type this as I have Lost Paradise on pause with no hint of irony

Re: Sony Seemingly Censors Controversial Senran Kagura Mode

RPE83

I don't think questioning the existence of a mode where it's indicated that the sole purpose is to sexually assault minors or adults pretending to be children while they ask you to stop is quite "censorship". There is no message, no art, no contemplation, just "child abuse mode". I am fine, mature and intelligent enough to deal with taboo subjects for the sake of art that poses questions, or has some framing around it, but morally repugnant stuff for titillation is wrong.

Either way Sony should have blocked it totally worldwide or allowed it totally worldwide though, because they either find it the type of material they want running on their hardware, or the type they don't.

Ultimately, and finally, would it even pass classification in the UK for example, uncut?

Edit, having seen the fake "Mickey Mouse" style gloved hands you use in the linked video, that's just bizarre.

As you are a Manchester United fan, I will respect your opinions and experience on downgrades over time and managers trying to tell you the worse experience you are witnessing with your very eyes is infact totally brilliant because remember "they've done a great job in the past".

I get the nature of collecting and 100% , and even Tell Tales games' trophies really are just chapter markers for a short choose your own adventure game, but considering what this actually is, I am curious as to whether people feel a Platinum is really necessary? What trophies could this have? What trophies could and should a demo have?

Re: Life Is Strange 2 Will Set You Back $40

@RogerRoger
I actually bought the limited edition with soundtrack after getting it on digital in the sale because I loved it so much.
I think they know fans will be prepared to pay more this time (right fully so as you said) and i don't blame them if there is an improved experience.
Episode 5 of LiS did feel a bit "economical" at times though i loved it as a whole.

@3Above
Hello there, was interested in your comment as I've never been too bothered with trophies on full releases, I can take them or leave them, occasionally i try for a specfic trophy (Riddler Challenges in Batman) but I get that people like collecting them all/seeing them as a measure of achievement/other for every game they play.

I see this as essentially an interactive gaming "trailer" , or teaser you can play, or a demo.

Open to being convinced, but I can't fathom why would trophies be required for this, or a deal breaker?
How does it affect the game play in anyway?
How does it remove from the experience in having them/not having them?
Why are trophies for everything so important that you'd pass up on a small experience purely because of them?

Re: Rumour: Shadow of the Tomb Raider's Debut Trailer Leaks

RPE83

I thought the movie was a mixed bag, but overall I liked it. When it was good, it was very good. When it was bad, I rolled eyes.

Good : Alicia Vikander, stunts and physicality, direction, Bad guy. Pawn Shop

Bad : Some of the cheese and plotting stuff that makes sense or is OK in a 40 hour video game can be a bit jarring, coupled with all the good stuff leads to tonal shifts. Is it realistic and grounded? Or a bit of a cartoonish world? Somewhere in between? I got taken in and out the movie a lot.
SproutSproutSprout, the Dad in general.
Music was non descript.

I'd rate it overall as positive, but a little sad that I think an excellent performance from Alicia Vikander is in a fun, but not great film, when there was an excellent film there to be had.

Re: Review: Metal Gear Survive (PS4)

@Porco
The Last Jedi had a much higher critical review than user score, and that said more to me about the users than the critics.

Look, I'm not saying it's a great game, I'm not saying it's an awful game. I haven't played it and I have little interest in doing so truthfully.

I'm just saying I don't understand why people get so upset over subjective reviews, and quote other reviews when attacking scores and opinions, to the level where with no proof, evidence or effort towards obtaining either, people are happy to fire off accusations concerning integrity and brown envelopes.

It seems that the only way some people would be happy is if every single outlet or person told them the same thing, basically what they want to hear, or essentially what they've already decided for themselves anyway.

If Push Square gave this 6/10 and said "Conclusion : See Metacritic", I am not sure that is better that perhaps being too effusive in praise.

If Push Square re-reviewed this and went "Go on then gang, you got us, it's really a 5" , people would moan they had no integrity either.

I'd rather and respect someone more who wrote something thoughtfully, honestly, stood by their words and have a conclusion that tallied with that, than just have metacritic or consensus led safe "opinions" that's the same as everything else.

We're all different with different opinions, so why would everyone review the same thing , exactly the same?

Re: Shadow of the Colossus Remake Team Readying Another Revival

RPE83

Rather it wasn't Demon's Souls, the genre is probably one of the strongest in gaming currently for consistent quality output, with the Souls series, Nioh, Bloodbourne et al, we're spoiled enough as it is!

Is there even a small chance bluepoint can do former PC/Xbox exclusives, not sure how licensing for things like Knights of the Old Republic would work?

@ShogunRok
It's like Square Enix and Sega take turns at going for the "untintentional incompetence related comedy" world record.

"Sega has released Yakuza 6 for free by mistake, let's see if we can top that; just chuck out a job advert asking for someone who knows what they are doing to redo the FFVII remake from the start."

Re: Review: Life Is Strange: Before the Storm - Bonus Episode: Farewell (PS4)

RPE83

I like how Chloe's character evolved from seemingly "toxic/bad news old friend" to really one of the biggest victims, as everyone who loved her and led her to believe they'd always be there, unfairly left her, one way or another.

Kudos to the writing team for the way characters evolve and feel real, I felt the prequel and the bonus episode gave more weight, and gave a different perspective to the events of the first game.

Re: Review: Metal Gear Survive (PS4)

@Donald_M
Objective Game Review:
"This game is on the Playstation 4, it uses the Fox Engine and it is called Metal Gear but may or may not feature the titular walking tank from earlier entries in the series. It does however, involve shooting, stealth and survial, and an alternative version of the mother base from a prior entry. There is a tonal shift from military conspiracy to horror.

Despite expectations that come with the name; It has not been made entirely by Hideo Kojima.

There are microstransactions that you can purchase, alternatively you do not have to. These serve as a similar mechanic to "cheats" or buffs, but now involve a cost per use. Note : These cost the player and make the company responsible for the game additional money over the initial unit price, if the revenue exceeds the cost of the title, this is called profit, and in a free market economy, this is a core objective of a business. Your purchases and expenditure are not capped by the title.

There is music which gives certain ambeince and accompaniment to events happening on the screen.

The controls are responsive; I press a button and something happens, there is not a single button that does not have a use.

The graphics are realisticly grounded and the physics show a good level of sophistication and correlation with the real word. If you have played Metal Gear Solid V, you should expect a reasonably similar visual experience.

You can purchase this game in shops and digitally.

Objective Score with 0 being "This is NOT a game you can play on PS4", and 1 being "This IS a game you can play on your ps4" : 1/1 - 100% : Editors Choice.

Re: Review: Metal Gear Survive (PS4)

RPE83

@Porco
I would argue that if someone goes against the grain and scores something accordingly to their own criteria, that is more objective than seeing what score the herd are going with and just following suit.

Any review is entirely "subjective", the key is finding a reviewer whose opinions and tastes match your own and letting them give you something to consider, the best review is always the one you give something yourself after you've experienced it.

I was recomended to Push Square by a friend, so far I have found the reviews helpful and would put more stock in them than other sites, but scores are never the be all and end all.

Push Square : Keep up the good work.

based on prior topics here, it was already going to be more likely to be pounding of keyboards to bang out something resembling this:

"I can't wait for SJW/libtard's to get annoyed at this; I hope next time she's naked and her boobs are bigger!" than any actual complaints.

Anita Sarkeesian was an unexpected surprise.

Re: Life Is Strange: Before the Storm Will Make Your Christmas Complete

RPE83

@get2sammyb
Why would that character have to be?

I saw this as "setting the scene" for why Chloe was the person we met in Life Is Strange and why Rachel Amber was so important to her. If it ends with the die being cast, and you can clearly see the direction they are going in, i wouldn't be disappointed.

Kind of like Darth Vader between Revenge of the Sith to A New Hope.

Re: Death Stranding Expectations Increase as Kojima, Del Toro Storm The Game Awards

RPE83

@get2sammyb
It does smack of the "autuer" issue where a "visionary" gets sole credit in the public eye for producing something under a system with collaboration, filtering and editing (George Lucas : Star Wars, Wachowski Sisters : Matrix, Kojima : Metal Gear) and then subsequently being given completely free license by the suits to go batship crazy. (Star Wars Prequels, every other Wachowski movie, Death Stranding)

Whether it's good or bad, I have a feeling it will be memorable.

Re: UK Gambling Commission Has Its Say on the Loot Box Saga

RPE83

@Tasuki
I think the "Wilson Loot Boxes" or EA model as termed by the video on this site are bad for game design when the whole reason any EA game seems to exist is to fit around this process, whether we agree or disagree they are gambling.

On another level, if you are done with it (the argument) making comments on an Internet message board you are a prominent and respected member of, that imply your personal position is unquestionably correct and that anyone and everyone who disagrees with you is part of a lower intelligence mob is just going to be a lightning rod for more passionate arguments. It's why nobody can discuss things like "Brexit" or "Trump" anymore because it descends into people passionately defending their preexisting viewpoint while simplifying all people who hold a different one into some cartoon "neanderthal" or "snowflake".

What can you do?

A) Keep your own counsel and just say nothing.

B) Accept the objective truth is somewhere between two subjective opinions and debate people on individual merit, and be prepared to reevaluate your own position in the face of a good cohesive argument.

C) make negative generalisations and sweeping statements about people who have a different viewpoint, dig in and double down on everything.

Re: Retrace the Steps Leading to EA's Star Wars Loot Box Scandal

RPE83

I liked the bit where he said they were unlike Pokemon and Magic cards because they lacked intrinsic value, since they only exist within their own ecosystem, with no trading and EA controlling drop rates.

Anyone still arguing the flip about how they are the same should see it.

Re: Belgium Reckons Loot Boxes Are Gambling, Wants Them Banned in Europe

Yep, totally. I can mentally imagine the interviews with the kids dressed as Poe, Finn, Kylo and Rey now almost crying and looking down at the floor next to a stern looking parent because some adult dropped money to get Darth Vader and cut them to ribbons repeatedly without mercy on boxing day, captioned with "Star Wars Battlefront gambling ruins Christmas, and possibly childhood too."

like when PSN being down for a day ruined christmas, childhoods the other year.
