Well, we weren't expecting to wake up to this. Sony has just announced the PlayStation Classic, a miniature console in the same vein as Nintendo's NES and SNES Classics that have proven to be wildly popular.

The pint-sized PSone takes the form of the original model, and comes in at just 45% the size of the regular box. It comes pre-installed with 20 games, which include Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms. The full list hasn't yet been made available, but we're sure it wouldn't be too hard to guess some of the other titles that will show up. Here's our list of games we'd love to see on the now-confirmed machine.

The PlayStation Classic comes with a HDMI cable, a USB cable for power, and two original PSone controllers -- yes, the ones without analogue sticks. In a nice touch, the Open button on the machine switches between games, while the Reset button will suspend play. It launches on 3rd December, which some might recognise as the same date the PlayStation first launched in Japan back in 1994. As for price, the PlayStation Classic will set you back £89.99 / €99.99 / $99.99. Check out the PlayStation Blog for the official word.
