Do you remember when we reported August’s USA sales charts? Helldivers 2 was missing from the Xbox charts, which we immediately posited as an error.
Analyst Mat Piscatella, who publishes the data, said he’d investigate – and here we are. The third-person shooter is a massive success on Microsoft’s machine.
So, the actual results, then: the game charted third on the Xbox-specific charts in August, and fourth in September.
Considering these results are ordered by revenue and the alien obliterator is not a full-price game, these are pretty remarkable results.
In fact, across all platforms, Helldivers 2 was the sixth best-selling game in September. For the year-to-date, it’s now moved up into 19th overall – despite first releasing in 2024.
Sony’s multiformat gambit has absolutely paid off then, and this result will certainly help extend the life of the shooter – and increase all of that microtransaction revenue the company’s so desperate to accrue.
But could we see more first-party titles follow in its path? We know Marathon will be available everywhere at launch, but what about late ports of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls or even Fairgames?
We suppose it’s going to depend how well they’re received, but clearly this experience has been a successful one so far.
