Good initiative. Exciting to see what new perspectives and visions other parts of the world have to offer. I'd be all up for an African Soulslike with an banging Afrobeat soundtrack.
@Northern_munkey On PCVR. You can use the PSVR2 headset on PC if your PC is up to the task though. Someone even managed to get foveated rendering working on PC but its limited to a few games for now.
Summum Aeterna Another Roguelike Metroidvania this week. Perfect "listening to music while playing" game for me.
I also tried getting my friends into VR by making them play Dirt Rally 2 with wheel/pedals, but they only lasted about 10 seconds before motion sickness made them claw their way out of the headset like there was a poisonous spider in it.
Same story as always: Release a game that's "for the fans" and "hardcore" at launch, and then gradually start Fortniting it as MTX become more important than sales over time.
Some players will complain but they won't stop playing anyway.
I played ATS in PCVR with wheel/pedals and whilst listening to music... awesome, and quite relaxing experience. I have ETS2 as well in my backlog.
The bad thing about these games is the ridiculous amounts on DLC it has compared to what's in the main game. ATS is quite cheap in Steam sales (about $4) but it's more like demo with a few states included. If you want the rest of the game you're gonna be paying a lot of money for it.
Beneath Oresa
Another roguelike deckbuilder, this one with some great Moebius-inspired art and fully animated fights. Enjoyable but very difficult compared to most games in the genre, almost to the point of feeling unfair in some fights. The achievement for clearing the game at the easiest level is only 29% on Steam. I'm still enjoying it though, and its perfect for listening to music while playing.
Behind The Frame: The Finest Scenery
I've been trying more Epic Game Store freebies this week, and while most of them were not to my liking, this one was a fine surprise. I cleared it in one sitting, as its only about 1-2 hours long. It's a art-themed puzzle story about a woman revisiting her life through paintings. Beautiful Ghibli-like art and bittersweet story almost had me tearing up towards the end. Just almost!
Ogu and the Secret Forest
Another Epic Game surprise. This looked like a kids game to me at first but in truth its a very competent old-school Zelda-like with good puzzles and exploration. And very cute!
@JamieO I've played 9 Years of Shadows and it's good, but I had to give up on the last couple of bosses as it just got too difficult. The game is reliant on a healing system where you get a chance to heal damage you receive by pressing a button at the right time (think Gears of War reloading) and I just could never get it quite right.
Maybe your reflexes are sharper than mine, though.
Been playing shorter games this week, to clear up the backlog for a better future:
Minute of Islands Gorgeous (just look at it) and moody platform puzzler about a girl tasked with maintaining ancient machinery in a dying world. Gameplay isn't much to write about, but it hit me right in the feels.
Observation Great space horror/drama that feels like the game version of 2001: A Space Odyssey. You play as an AI with control of cameras and drones aboard a space station where lots of mysterious s**t is going down.
She's obviously been playing it first-person in VR on PC with UEVR. Just check Youtube if you don't believe me. And she invented the new genre of Rogue-style while at it, very impressive.
In the end, she outwitted you all with her ultimate nerd skills.
@Dan12836666 I would say only games of PS2 gen and earlier would be in need of remakes. A simple remaster is fine for PS3 and later, and the Bioshock games still look great in my opinion.
I don't know about that. These more silly skins is part of a strategy they implement after some time to branch out to a different target audience than the more "hardcore" shooter fans they need at launch.
If the game is a success, expect to see pink camo uniforms and clown wigs eventually.
@pharos_haven There's a program for PC that can play most Unreal Engine 4 and 5 games in 3D VR called UEVR. You can change to first person perspective and add motion controls as well. It can be quite demanding on the hardware though, since you're essentially running the game twice, once for each eye.
That's some big numbers. And sales too. I guess they could have been much higher if they had gone by the player engagement numbers that other publishers use.
And I guess that also explains why Hulst is still employed after that Concord fiasco.
I'm having a break from VR since it's just too hot to comfortably wear a headset right now. So I've been trying out the shortest games I own in order to clear up a bit of the never-ending backlog. The standout this week was Blanc, a cute animal adventure where you control a wolf pup and a fawn with each stick (like in Brothers game).
The reason why everyone focuses on Steam numbers is because they are the only one disclosing sales numbers. If Playstation, XBOX etc start doing the same then that will no longer be the case.
@Grumps859 Yeah it's a shame. Despite all the flaws in Piranhabytes games, they always nail the world and environments that make them worth playing.
Some of devs started a new studio called Pithead. I hope they will make something similar. And there's also the Gothic remake that looks pretty good but is by different studio.
Elex 2 this week. Loving it so far, although the reviews were a bit mixed for this one. Like all Piranhabyte games I've played, it does exploration and levelling very well. And as usual it starts you off as a complete weakling so the first hours are spent running away from dangerous giant chickens. Finally, it has an upgradeable jetpack, and like ME Andromeda, that makes it easy to overlook any flaws.
I also met this peculiar fellow in a bar, that just so happens to look precisely like how I imagine the average PushSquare commenter ;-p

That's a good one to be inspired by, although BF Vietnam will always be my favorite for nostalgic/sentimental reasons.
Bad Company 1 had the best single player campaign of the series, imo, after that it was just a COD clone in that department.

Nice. There's room for SWAT/R6 type tactical shooters still, it seems.
