Re: Code Veronica the Next Resident Evil Remake, Say New Reports

Orpheus79V

@Rich33 Nah, Code Veronica was never RE3. RE3 was a game being developed by a team with Hideki Kamiya as the planner set on a cruise ship. It was set for the PS1 at first until it was decided to be a PS2 game, causing a delay. Capcom wanted a numbered sequel out soon though, so they bumped up Nemesis to be RE3. Kamiya's project became RE4, he became the director of it, switching the setting to a castle, eventually morphing into DMC1.

The misinformation around this primary comes from IGN, who've reported on CV being the real RE3 with no real sourcing. Another factor is CV being announced before RE3, so people assumed it was RE3 because it made sense in that time. Shinji Mikami has also commented that he feels CV is the "true RE3" but that's an opinion of his and not a fact of it's development.

The Sony angle (namely a deal they allegedly had with Capcom mandating RE3 as a PS1 game) also has no truth to it. IGN literally made it up in 2009. The whole thing is probably the biggest Resident Evil misinformation of all time so I don't blame anyone for believing it, I did too for a long time.

This article has quotes from Kamiya himself and RE3's writer laying out all of the above.

Re: Code Veronica the Next Resident Evil Remake, Say New Reports

@JB_Whiting As a correction, while Code Veronica is mainline it was never considered RE3. That title was originally meant for the game that became DMC1. They added the number 3 to Nemesis to sell more copies, and RE3 became RE4 before becoming DMC1. The popular story goes it was a Sony mandate forcing Nemesis to get the number, but it was just a case of Capcom wanting to maximise profit for that fiscal year.

Re: Yakuza's Makers Have Made Another Unforced Error

You know, this decision would be far less egregious if instead of being forced to buy a £115 bundle, you could just buy the set of 3, 4, and 5 remasters. I think they delisted that bundle when they introduced the starter pack and complete series bundles. Would be smart to reintroduce it, especially when they will obviously go and make Kiwamis 4 and 5 later as well.

Re: Yakuza's Makers Have Made Another Unforced Error

@Darylb88 Kiwami versions being improved is very much subjective. Some content is changed and removed, characters recast and redesigned, balance and pacing differences, etc. Very different and distinct experiences. Kiwami 3 is catching a lot of heat from the newer fans who actually played the original, whereas the negative changes from Kiwami 1 and 2 went much less noticed because most fans post 0 started with the remakes.

Video games will continue to not be taken seriously as an art form when things like this keep happening.

Imagine if everything they remade a movie, they removed the original one from all services and stopped printing physical copies. There would be outrage. Happens all the time for games and some people even defend or downplay the seriousness of it.

It's a problem on both the companies and the consumers who keep demanding remakes of games.

Re: Episodic Sensation Dispatch Will Be Eligible for The Game Awards 2026

Orpheus79V

@RoomWithaMoose True, most people aren't watching The Game Awards because they care about the awards. If they actually do that's a bit silly, because it's basically the video game equivalent of the MTV Movie Awards, as opposed something more prestigious that I'm sure Geoff would love to think his show compares to. There's better options if you want something like that.

I even think calling it The Game Awards is a bit full of it, as if it's the only ceremony that matters - it's as if the Oscars was called The Film Awards.

People are primarily tuning in to see trailers for games that aren't out yet.

Re: New PS5 Controllers Said to Be Optimised for Better Battery Life

Orpheus79V

That should have been the battery life for the Edge. Hopefully PS6 controllers carry this optimisation forward. We don't really need any new gimmicks, aside from rear buttons as standard that work as on the Switch 2 Pro Controller where every game can be configured individually. A small set of profiles like on the Edge just isn't enough.

But that shouldn't need a huge chunk of battery life, it's just two buttons.

Re: No One Seems to Know if This Shenmue 4 Trailer Is Real or AI

Orpheus79V

You'll notice none of the camera cuts last longer than 2 seconds. One key trademark of AI, because it cannot hold up a consistent image for that long, so you make a few second long clips and string them together. There's a few other artefacts that are consistent with AI generated video that pop up from time to time. There's a warping effect on the cliffside at 0:12 seconds in. That whole flashback sequence with the 4:3 aspect ratio from 3:23 to 3:37 looks completely fake and uncanny to me as well, the way the characters move look too smooth compared to other parts.

But on the other hand, a lot of it also looks authentic enough to be believable.

This would have to be a very elaborate AI fake, given how long the video is. Think of how many generated clips would need to be made, how many that looked too bad to include, etc. Enough to burn down a forest, probably. And the AI would need to have been trained exclusively on Shenmue III footage because it's a pretty close match to how that game looked.

I'm really not a fan of the idea suggested that this is a real trailer, and YS Net are using a mix of in development assets and AI generated imagery, but I cannot rule that possibility out. They're working with such a shoestring budget that I could believe them thinking it's a good idea. Very frustrating that Sega won't just throw them a bone and return to in house production for Shenmue IV on the Dragon Engine or something, as part of their initiative for bringing back dead franchises.

Re: The Witcher Dev Still Wants to Release Ciri's Whole Trilogy Within Six Years

Orpheus79V

@BearsEatBeets They've got over 1000 employees, plus they can subcontract support studios. I agree that it seems feasible, though not 100% certain they'll pull it off.

Final Fantasy VII's remake trilogy seems like it'll be hitting a similar pace of output with the first and second games in 2020 and 2024, with the third speculated to be aiming for 2027. That's with the first game being a much smaller instalment and covid troubles hitting in the earliest stages of the second's production.

Re: Over 10.5 Million Concurrent Players Show Up for Avengers: Endgame-Esque Fortnite Event

Orpheus79V

I'm sure it's very impressive that they managed to navigate the legal nightmare to get all of these IP together, but I honestly felt nothing watching that.

It felt more like that scene in Space Jam 2 where all of the different Warner Brothers characters arrived at the court than Endgame's portal scene it's obviously aping - not a great comparison. The Ultimate Showdown had charm when it was some dude animating it in his bedroom.

Re: PS5 Roguelike Let It Die: Inferno Uses a Crapload of Generative AI

Orpheus79V

@Max_the_German People generally like having access to affordable energy, clean water. Another issue is a primary use of genAI appears to be inciting psychosis in average people through fake content and disinformation via AI generated images and videos creates to divide and anger people. This sort of thing has existed prior of course, but the automation of it has led to it becoming all the more prevalent. Acceleration of people's laziness, isolation.

Some benefits here and there, sure. Like, cool, you can automate some more tedious parts of work. Using AI for actual creative parts of game development, as in this title? Lame. Another excuse for CEOs to cut costs by paying people less while their paychecks are safe.

Re: Tales of Berseria Remastered Set for PS5, $40 Game Out on 27th February

Orpheus79V

@SuperSilverback They must have seperate teams working on these or something, considering the pace of these remasters. Graces F, Xillia and Berseria all in the span of about a year. Berserk coming before Xillia 2 would track if it was being handled by a different team than Xillia's and they just have it ready.

Edit: Graces F Remastered was handled by TOSE, Xillia Remastered was handled by Doki Doki Grooveworks. So they are using multiple teams and just putting out whatever is ready at any particular time.
