Re: SEGA's Accidentally Outed Sales Numbers Put a Lot into Context

Orpheus79V

"Infinite Wealth looks a bit disappointing at just 1.66 million units sold."

I can't quite agree. Yakuza 7 has been available for purchase for several more years, and most people are going to play it first before it's direct sequel. These aren't the old days when games would only sell for as long as stores could hold the shelf space for them, digital stores allow any game to have a long tail of revenue.

Looking at the spreadsheet showing these games sales over time, IW is doing about as well launch aligned (Y7 wasn't a simultaneous global launch so it's Japanese and International launches are split between two fiscal years).

@Milt I think Sega's problem was they were comparing it to Frontiers selling 3 million in a few months. Obviously comparing a side scroller to an open worlder is a fools errand. It should be compared to Mania, which took a year to break a million at a third of the average price point. Superstars selling approximately 2.5 million in a year and a half while being more expensive and not as good as it's predecessor can only be considered a financial success.

Re: Poll: How Would You Rate State of Play for June 2025?

Orpheus79V

@DreadfulDragon Heck, I own everything but an Xbox and I still don't care if the games are multiplatform. 1st party, 3rd party, just show some cool looking games and I'm good.

PS has never been like Nintendo where the 1st party is the key factor. Think of the many iconic PS2 games and how many weren't by Sony.

Re: Poll: Which Bethesda RPG Needs an Oblivion-Style Remaster Next?

Orpheus79V

Fallout 3 is up next, per the FTC leaks. New Vegas would likely follow that since they can reuse so much from Fallout 3's remaster. I'd guess Morrowind would come sometime after that, it kind of needs the most brushing up of the lot.

I kind of don't expect they'll do a Skyrim remaster for a very long time actually (if at all), despite the reputation for always finding new ways to re-release it. I think that game is set in stone, with the Creations marketplace they can keep selling mods for years and updating the game with what's already available. A Switch 2 port with that mod marketplace is probably the only new version I can see coming in the near future. Skyrim is still modern enough for most people I think.

Re: Switch 2 Fans Can’t Stand Seeing Nintendo’s New Console Compared to the 12-Year-Old PS4

Orpheus79V

@anoyonmus Another one is Elden Ring, the PS4 version uses the lowest graphics settings at 1080p 30fps. Switch 2 appears to be using the PC versions high quality preset sans RT, at the same 1080p 30fps as PS4. It's definetly not PS5 level, but it's punching above the PS4. Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty could not run on PS4, it's included with the Switch 2 version.

Re: Nintendo Is Losing Its Identity, Says Ex-PlayStation Boss

Orpheus79V

It's a good thing that the Switch 2 as a console is more iterative in my opinion. It doesn't mean Nintendo can't get experimental with gimmicks and the like, there'll be a fair few games that use unique accessories. The games themselves don't need a wacky novelty console to try new things either. On the software front they've stuck to their identity far more than Sony has (I'm not sure if Microsoft's first party output ever had a coherent identity).

Designing your entire console around a novelty idea is a risky move as we saw with Wii U, not even Nintendo managed to get a lot of juice out of the gamepad idea, let alone the few third parties that weren't immediately turned off. This whole idea of Nintendo always doing something completely different with every console was only really applicable to the DS, Wii, Wii U and 3DS to a lesser extent anyway. Before that their consoles were mainly about updating tech, with the gimmicks being supplementary. The N64 wasn't a 3D console because it was a fun new gimmick to play around with, it was the natural advancement of technology.

Re: PS5 Price Increases Announced by Sony, Immediately Affects UK, Europe, and More

Orpheus79V

@SlasherZ This same exact scenario happened last time, they increased the price in those regions, Americans were happy it wasn't them, and then a few months later they got a price increase.

I'm amused by the amount of comments suggesting this price increase is somehow about the US tariffs when Sony's statement clearly says it's due to "high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates" and these regions are NOT the US. When the US does get it's increase the tariffs will absolutely be a major factor though.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch 2 Direct - 5 Things for PS5 Fans to Pay Attention To

Orpheus79V

"we’ll likely get a spec sheet in the aftermath of its presentation."

Will we though? Outside of the most generic specs, like physical dimensions. I doubt they'll mention anything like teraflops and such, they never do that stuff. The official specifications for the Switch only mentions a "custom Nvidia Tegra processor".

The leaked shipping data specs we already have are more than we'll get from Nintendo.

EDIT: The mysterious C button is probably the equivalent of the PS/Xbox button on those console's respective controllers, bringing up an activity bar like feature which has been absent on the Switch.
