@Alps_Stranger I don't know it's worked out fine for Resident Evil, half of the games went through that dev cycle. RE2 and 4 being the famous examples.
"Infinite Wealth looks a bit disappointing at just 1.66 million units sold."
I can't quite agree. Yakuza 7 has been available for purchase for several more years, and most people are going to play it first before it's direct sequel. These aren't the old days when games would only sell for as long as stores could hold the shelf space for them, digital stores allow any game to have a long tail of revenue.
Looking at the spreadsheet showing these games sales over time, IW is doing about as well launch aligned (Y7 wasn't a simultaneous global launch so it's Japanese and International launches are split between two fiscal years).
@Milt I think Sega's problem was they were comparing it to Frontiers selling 3 million in a few months. Obviously comparing a side scroller to an open worlder is a fools errand. It should be compared to Mania, which took a year to break a million at a third of the average price point. Superstars selling approximately 2.5 million in a year and a half while being more expensive and not as good as it's predecessor can only be considered a financial success.
@DreadfulDragon Heck, I own everything but an Xbox and I still don't care if the games are multiplatform. 1st party, 3rd party, just show some cool looking games and I'm good.
PS has never been like Nintendo where the 1st party is the key factor. Think of the many iconic PS2 games and how many weren't by Sony.
Yeah I'd probably watch that. Get Junji Ito involved for a manga too. He's friends with Kojima and one of the NPCs in the first game so he might be open to that.
Fallout 3 is up next, per the FTC leaks. New Vegas would likely follow that since they can reuse so much from Fallout 3's remaster. I'd guess Morrowind would come sometime after that, it kind of needs the most brushing up of the lot.
I kind of don't expect they'll do a Skyrim remaster for a very long time actually (if at all), despite the reputation for always finding new ways to re-release it. I think that game is set in stone, with the Creations marketplace they can keep selling mods for years and updating the game with what's already available. A Switch 2 port with that mod marketplace is probably the only new version I can see coming in the near future. Skyrim is still modern enough for most people I think.
Not a fan of the anti-JRPG messaging I've seen from some of Expedition 33's fans, considering how much the game owes to the ones that group of people are dogging on.
@GirlVersusGame The only adaptations that seem to have escaped that bias are TLOU, Fallout, and Arcane. I wonder if the television format has anything to do with it? TV executives and critics aren't as jealous of the games industry?
It's a little funny that this is the second Sydney Sweeney video game adaptation announcement this week.
@Bagwag82 She was in White Lotus and Euphoria, as well as some other recent projects. Played one of the Manson cult members in Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.
I think RT is a way better metric than Metacritic for films. 63% is pretty standard fare for shlocky horror flicks too, which is exactly what Until Dawn is - but playable. Your mileage may vary for how much you'd enjoy that without the gameplay.
@anoyonmus Another one is Elden Ring, the PS4 version uses the lowest graphics settings at 1080p 30fps. Switch 2 appears to be using the PC versions high quality preset sans RT, at the same 1080p 30fps as PS4. It's definetly not PS5 level, but it's punching above the PS4. Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty could not run on PS4, it's included with the Switch 2 version.
The comparison screens show the remaster looking a bit more muted and less vibrant, and looks more Skyrim-y of course. Ironically, it now looks more like a seventh gen game than the original version.
It's a good thing that the Switch 2 as a console is more iterative in my opinion. It doesn't mean Nintendo can't get experimental with gimmicks and the like, there'll be a fair few games that use unique accessories. The games themselves don't need a wacky novelty console to try new things either. On the software front they've stuck to their identity far more than Sony has (I'm not sure if Microsoft's first party output ever had a coherent identity).
Designing your entire console around a novelty idea is a risky move as we saw with Wii U, not even Nintendo managed to get a lot of juice out of the gamepad idea, let alone the few third parties that weren't immediately turned off. This whole idea of Nintendo always doing something completely different with every console was only really applicable to the DS, Wii, Wii U and 3DS to a lesser extent anyway. Before that their consoles were mainly about updating tech, with the gimmicks being supplementary. The N64 wasn't a 3D console because it was a fun new gimmick to play around with, it was the natural advancement of technology.
@SlasherZ This same exact scenario happened last time, they increased the price in those regions, Americans were happy it wasn't them, and then a few months later they got a price increase.
I'm amused by the amount of comments suggesting this price increase is somehow about the US tariffs when Sony's statement clearly says it's due to "high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates" and these regions are NOT the US. When the US does get it's increase the tariffs will absolutely be a major factor though.
Looked at the ResetEra thread and it was pointed out that a bunch of games had trailers removed from their Steam pages on that same day. So that doesn't have any correlation to this rumour.
"we’ll likely get a spec sheet in the aftermath of its presentation."
Will we though? Outside of the most generic specs, like physical dimensions. I doubt they'll mention anything like teraflops and such, they never do that stuff. The official specifications for the Switch only mentions a "custom Nvidia Tegra processor".
The leaked shipping data specs we already have are more than we'll get from Nintendo.
EDIT: The mysterious C button is probably the equivalent of the PS/Xbox button on those console's respective controllers, bringing up an activity bar like feature which has been absent on the Switch.
I can't see the Switch 2 Direct being where this is revealed if it releases this week or the next. What benefit does Nintendo get from showing this game off as a kind of shadow drop for every platform but the very one they are showcasing? It distracts from the console they're trying to sell.
A bit unfortune that they delisted the first Cyber Sleuth on PS so quickly, but at least you can get the collection with both games on Switch and Steam.
That 3.5 million number kind of stunk. I could see 500k copies of the PC version being sold, it had around 30K players on Steam at launch (plus whatever number that bought it on Epic) and six months have passed since. Obviously they've been selling copies on PS5 in the two years since that 3 million number was hit.
