Dragon Quest XI slowing down gradually, but it has done very well altogether. And it will still keep selling in lower numbers for a long time, even if the chart position will start to drop.

Looks bad. Why do third party manufacturers keep making bad accessory controllers?

@get2sammyb Yeah, sorry about that. Wasn't my intention though. When I wrote "Compare to PS4, which is getting a massive number of releases, and 2DS..." I meant that it should be obvious to everyone that PS4 especially has a massive slate of games for the upcoming 6 months or so. Leaving the comparisons aside, I think we can safely agree that it is indeed fact and not just opinion that the PS4 has a huge scope of upcoming games, and I'll leave it at that.

@RedMageLanakyn "Fall and winter"... That's several months, and several really barren months for the Switch, to add. And XC2 isn't really a big title, you certainly won't see it do Splatoon 2 numbers.

Compare to PS4, which is getting a massive number of releases, and 2DS, which is getting titles like Metroid: Samus Returns and Pokemon Ultra. I know which systems have the better game selection this year and beyond.

@sketchturner I know Splatoon has its fans, but I'm definitely not one of them.

@RedMageLanakyn Splatoon 2 is the Switch's first big exclusive game, and it's also the Switch's last big exclusive game for a long time. Switch owners simply don't have a lot of titles to buy, so they will flock to the one big title they get.

These charts are ordered by revenue, not units sold, so in all likelihood, the Crash N.Sane Trilogy at $40 sold more units than Splatoon 2 at $60.

@manu0 8500 copies physical first week is pretty good for a compilation of old games, not even remastered or remade. Japan has had access to these games for several years on different services like Virtual Console, WiiWare and PSN, even Mega Man 8. This collection will keep selling with time, it just won't do big numbers right away because there's not a big need to get the "new" thing.

@Ralizah New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a superb game. And while Nintendogs isn't my kind of a game, you can't deny it wasn't influential.

Crash will probably still be in the charts in September when Metroid: Samus Returns and lots of other new games hit. No signs of slowing down, actually Crash's sales only dropped 1 % since last week!

Still on Miitopia. Not much time for other games.

Not keen on this. One of the great things about Ni no Kuni 1 was that it included everything on the game disc.

Now they're already planning DLC when they haven't even released the game and had to delay it?

Oh, “current generation consoles”? That can't include the PS4 then, because it's already last gen!

@BAMozzy Only Splatoon is a Switch title. Miitopia is for 2DS and 3DS.

If you want a guaranteed Number 1 game, don't launch against Crash N. Sane Trilogy.

Crash has been out for 6 weeks now, and it has been number 1 for 5 weeks of those. If any game could do it, we would have seen more number 1 titles, but Crash is clearly a cut above the rest.

@get2sammyb @msrx782 They have remade 2D graphics, but they're not complete remakes like DQ7 was.

@BAMozzy There have been new releases. Final Fantasy XII ZA took the number 1 spot from Crash away for a week. Splatoon 2... well, didn't. Miitopia looks like it has staying power, but it doesn't have the huge appeal like Crash does.

Crash is simply a bonafide hit. 5 weeks at number 1 is a great achievement, no matter what month it is.

You might want to try out Dragon Quest 8 on PS2 or 2DS. This is supposed to be most similar to that installment.

@Gamer83 It's also the fact that the system is fairly new and Japan has had stock shortages. To compare, PS4 has already sold over 5 million in Japan, and 2DS and 3DS systems have sold over 23 million combined. Switch has only sold 1.2 million or so. That means there are literally tens of millions of gamers in Japan that don't have a Switch, so when there is a big release (in Japan) like Splatoon and enough stock, some of them will buy the new system.

That's not a good price on Horizon at all. Better to buy physical.

@naruball Oh yes, I forgot about digital sales. But the FF15 sales have been very slow since that update, so it's possible the physical release still hasn't reached a million.

Also, if we're not talking only about physical, DQ11 has digital sales too. There is no info about DQ11 digital sales yet, but if we assume a similar digital ratio as FF15, then DQ11 PS4 would also be above a million already.

@manu0 Japan loves Splatoon. Even the Wii U game sold over 1.5 million.

@naruball I don't think so. I haven't seen any news about that at least. FF15 crossing the million copies sold border would be worth the news, I think?

@mookysam With the success of the New 2DS XL, the handheld version will probably gain an edge over the PS4 version in the coming weeks. But this is still a very good result in Japan, which typically favors handheld games instead of home console games.

Opening week of 2 days, and it's already Japan's best-selling PS4 game. Impressive.

Crash Trilogy success is starting to become N.Sane!

Good start for Miitopia too, would love to have a game like that on PS4.

@Rob_230 You should get the original 2DS. The most comfortable handheld to play on in a long time.

Actually, this was very easy to forget about. Never use Remote Play... or even my Vita at all, for that matter.

@Toadie But here's the thing: PS4 had and has better versions of the games. Because of the hardware design, Switch doesn't.

For example, MK8 is better on Wii U for me. Shantae HGH is best on PS4. Rayman Legends is best on PS4 (and long since played). And so on. There is no game where the Switch version is the best, optimal way of playing any game for me. I like having the "best" versions of games, and Switch doesn't have those.

Also, when it comes to exclusives, PS4 and 2DS have so many games that are either "console exclusive" (PS4) or "handheld exclusive" (2DS). That is a great thing. All that variety is great. And that's yet another thing Switch doesn't have.

@Gamer83 Japan has been a handheld dominant country for over 10 years now. Here's a weird factoid: PS4 hasn't outsold PS Vita in Japan yet. However, it is likely that PS4 will pass 6 million before Vita, and then go on much longer than Vita. But home consoles in Japan just don't sell as well as handhelds do in Japan these days, not even Wii did.

@Toadie Do you own a PS4? A 2DS? A Wii U? If you have had any other systems, and are looking for new games, then there's literally almost nothing on Switch. Splatoon 2 is one of the few Switch exclusives in existence.
