Re: UK Sales Charts: FIFA 18 Bundles Do the Business for PS4

Mahe

@KitsuneNight Wii, DS, GBA, SNES and other successful Nintendo systems sold a ton of third party games.

It's just that NS really isn't on that level.

Here's a fun, relevant fact: Wii got FIFA games all the way up to FIFA 15. Sure, the last ones were Legacy editions, but that just goes to show you how Wii was in completely different ballpark with third parties than where NS is right now.

@adf86 "Of course not many people bought it on Switch, it's a lesser version of the game and playing it on the go isn't that massive of an incentive."

But you can say that of basically every NS game. All NS games will always be inferior compared to the other versions, that's just the way it is.

Re: Poll: Do You Want Another Portable PlayStation?

Mahe

Absolutely. It just needs to be more like PSP and less like PS Vita.

And please, nothing like the NS (Nintendo Switch). I don't want that at all, and Sony's implementations of handheld play on TV have already been better than what NS offers (see PSP TV out).

Re: Sony Doesn't See Much Potential in Portable Platforms

Mahe

@Feena Yeah, obviously 3DS had a lot of problems in its early years. Things started getting better with 2DS and other later models & better games.

If Nintendo had just released 2DS to start with and had never bothered with the 3D stuff, the situation could have been much better.

Re: August 2017 NPD: Uncharted Starts Strong, But PS4 Can't Topple Switch

Mahe

"According to the NPD’s Mat Piscatella, the PS4 is still currently the top-selling console in the States year-to-date"

This shows the bigger picture. Even despite Switch being a new system, even despite the launch spike it had, PS4 is still beating it just for this year, in addition to the massive install base it already has in the US.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Destiny 2 Guns Its Way to Number 1 on PS4

Mahe

@ShogunRok This year, PS4 has sold an average of 33,500 systems / week in Japan. Of course, there are fluctuations in there. But it's not 20k this week, it wasn't 20k last week, it hasn't been 20k for a lot of weeks. At this point, PS4 would actually have to return to that 20k level and stay there for several weeks for it to be called a baseline.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Destiny 2 Guns Its Way to Number 1 on PS4

Mahe

@rjejr "Do we even really care about Japan anyway, it's such a small market?"

Over 8 % of the whole world's PS4s have been sold there, and they're not even too fond of home consoles these days. And it was released there in 2014. You call that small?

That figure is around 33 % for 2DS and 3DS systems, in case you were wondering.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Destiny 2 Down Dramatically Compared to First Game

Mahe

@Toadie "might finally get third party games selling well on a Nintendo home console."

Have you seen the NES, SNES and Wii? Those things sold loads of third party games.

Also, Switch isn't a home console. It's a portable system by definition. Nintendo have already abandoned their home console line and it looks like they might never produce a new home console again.

And just look at the full UK charts. Switch games aren't selling, especially not third party titles.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Everybody's Golf Swings Straight to the Top on PS4

Mahe

@Derpie1 Do you really see Sony bringing PS5 in 2018 or so? Even that would mean a 5 year lifecycle which would be really short for a PS5 system. PlayStation systems have an average lifecycle of 6 years before the next system, and then they still keep going even when the new system is out, usually totalling around 10 years.

For Switch, it's expected that Switch 2 will be around in 3 to 4 years or so, possibly even sooner. This is Nintendo's own plan, a system with a quick refresh cycle.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Everybody's Golf Swings Straight to the Top on PS4

Mahe

"As for Sony's current-gen console itself, the PS4 remains behind the Nintendo Switch for a second week, still hovering around that 20-25,000 mark."

It's useful to remember that PS4 has sold over 5 million, while Switch has sold only around a million and half in Japan. That means that even at this week's rate, even in Japan it would take approximately 156 weeks for Switch to catch up to PS4. That's three years!

Re: Rumour: September's PlayStation Plus Lineup May Be Amazing Again

Mahe

@lacerz If the licenses were free, I wouldn't maintain a Plus subscription. I don't play games that require Plus for online, so if the Plus games are bad or really old like in this case, that's just a wasted subscription fee for that month. You hear that? Wasted money. It's not free!
