@Areus Dragon Quest XI has already sold over 3,300,000 copies between PS4, 2DS and 3DS, with digital included. It was bound to slow down eventually, even these kinds of figures are super rare in Japan.
Excellent result for Trails 3. It did around 20,000 better than the PS3 installments, and that's on a system that doesn't have any Trails games before. Trails 3 is the first installment of the series on PS4.
And it will probably keep selling for a while too, so crossing 100,000 is pretty much certain with these opening numbers.
@KitsuneNight Wii, DS, GBA, SNES and other successful Nintendo systems sold a ton of third party games.
It's just that NS really isn't on that level.
Here's a fun, relevant fact: Wii got FIFA games all the way up to FIFA 15. Sure, the last ones were Legacy editions, but that just goes to show you how Wii was in completely different ballpark with third parties than where NS is right now.
@deepspace5d Xbox 360 and PS3, which got the "Legacy" editions (old game with updated roster). The X360 Legacy edition actually outsold the NS non-Legacy version.
Absolutely. It just needs to be more like PSP and less like PS Vita.
And please, nothing like the NS (Nintendo Switch). I don't want that at all, and Sony's implementations of handheld play on TV have already been better than what NS offers (see PSP TV out).
"According to the NPD’s Mat Piscatella, the PS4 is still currently the top-selling console in the States year-to-date"
This shows the bigger picture. Even despite Switch being a new system, even despite the launch spike it had, PS4 is still beating it just for this year, in addition to the massive install base it already has in the US.
@ShogunRok This year, PS4 has sold an average of 33,500 systems / week in Japan. Of course, there are fluctuations in there. But it's not 20k this week, it wasn't 20k last week, it hasn't been 20k for a lot of weeks. At this point, PS4 would actually have to return to that 20k level and stay there for several weeks for it to be called a baseline.
@ShogunRok That might happen next week, or it might not. But it's obviously not "hovering around 20,000" when it was 26,000 last week, and close to 30,000 this week.
To balance things out, if it's back to 20,000 next week, you should write that it's "hovering around 30,000".
@rjejr "Do we even really care about Japan anyway, it's such a small market?"
Over 8 % of the whole world's PS4s have been sold there, and they're not even too fond of home consoles these days. And it was released there in 2014. You call that small?
That figure is around 33 % for 2DS and 3DS systems, in case you were wondering.
@Derpie1 West loves accessible consoles with great game selections, and that's why PS4 Slim is selling so well. Sony is in no rush to replace a system that is outpacing the PS3 by a huge margin.
@Toadie "might finally get third party games selling well on a Nintendo home console."
Have you seen the NES, SNES and Wii? Those things sold loads of third party games.
Also, Switch isn't a home console. It's a portable system by definition. Nintendo have already abandoned their home console line and it looks like they might never produce a new home console again.
And just look at the full UK charts. Switch games aren't selling, especially not third party titles.
@manu0 Oh yes, Mario and Rabbids, those completely unknown niche indie properties, on a system starved for games, compared to a remake that came out in June, on a system with a ton of other games... it's just unfair!
@Derpie1 Do you really see Sony bringing PS5 in 2018 or so? Even that would mean a 5 year lifecycle which would be really short for a PS5 system. PlayStation systems have an average lifecycle of 6 years before the next system, and then they still keep going even when the new system is out, usually totalling around 10 years.
For Switch, it's expected that Switch 2 will be around in 3 to 4 years or so, possibly even sooner. This is Nintendo's own plan, a system with a quick refresh cycle.
"As for Sony's current-gen console itself, the PS4 remains behind the Nintendo Switch for a second week, still hovering around that 20-25,000 mark."
It's useful to remember that PS4 has sold over 5 million, while Switch has sold only around a million and half in Japan. That means that even at this week's rate, even in Japan it would take approximately 156 weeks for Switch to catch up to PS4. That's three years!
@lacerz If the licenses were free, I wouldn't maintain a Plus subscription. I don't play games that require Plus for online, so if the Plus games are bad or really old like in this case, that's just a wasted subscription fee for that month. You hear that? Wasted money. It's not free!
Expected for Dragon Quest XI. It has already sold well over 3 million games across the two platforms (digital included), so it will start to slow down.

It's a very good soundtrack. Good job Anthony Willis!

@KitsuneNight Honestly, I think you wasted your money...
Hope you enjoy it more than I did.
Re: Sony Pledges Big PS4 Reveals for Paris Games Week
Hmm. Building up hype for a few reveals, or a genuine blowout coming?
Re: UK Sales Charts: FIFA 18 Bundles Do the Business for PS4
@adf86 I had my share of a failed Nintendo system with Wii U, it's the same song and dance with NS.
Luckily, there are so many games PS4 and 2DS that there's literally too much to play!

Re: UK Sales Charts: FIFA 18 Bundles Do the Business for PS4
@adf86 "Of course not many people bought it on Switch, it's a lesser version of the game and playing it on the go isn't that massive of an incentive."
But you can say that of basically every NS game. All NS games will always be inferior compared to the other versions, that's just the way it is.
Re: Poll: Do You Want Another Portable PlayStation?
Absolutely. It just needs to be more like PSP and less like PS Vita.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Has a Disastrous Launch on PS4
Capcom really botched this, but at least there are 8 other PS4 games on the list, and all of them except PC2 have already sold better than MvC:I.
(Including Yakuza with its original non budget price edition.)
Re: Sony Doesn't See Much Potential in Portable Platforms
@Feena Yeah, obviously 3DS had a lot of problems in its early years. Things started getting better with 2DS and other later models & better games.
If Nintendo had just released 2DS to start with and had never bothered with the 3D stuff, the situation could have been much better.
Re: Sony Doesn't See Much Potential in Portable Platforms
@Feena 2DS and 3DS still haven't stopped selling. Reaching 70 m soon, so passing PSP isn't out of the question.
Re: Hands On: Knowledge Is Power (Unless You're Thick as a Brick Obvs)
Could be fun if the price is right.
Re: TGS 2017: Sony Bets Big on Monster Hunter with Limited Edition PS4 Pro

Oh man, the trolling, and in first post too!

@rjejr The 80 million figure is worldwide. Still huge, of course.

Finished Knack 2, started Metroid: Samus Returns.

@Punished_Boss_84 Yeah, Switch could be doing a lot better if Nintendo hadn't made a lot of mistakes with it.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Destiny 2 Guns Its Way to Number 1 on PS4
@ShogunRok Not the Pro increase, the total number. That's nearly 30 thousand PS4s sold for the week in Japan, not 20 thousand.
Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Everybody's Golf Swings Straight to the Top on PS4
@Derpie1 PS4 was in development at least in 2010 and possibly even earlier. Consoles take a lot of time to develop.
Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Everybody's Golf Swings Straight to the Top on PS4
@Derpie1 West loves accessible consoles with great game selections, and that's why PS4 Slim is selling so well. Sony is in no rush to replace a system that is outpacing the PS3 by a huge margin.

@rjejr That was a few weeks ago, but yeah.
Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Destiny 2 Guns Its Way to Number 1 on PS4
@rjejr Yeah, that's a weird interpretation that @ShogunRok has there. PS4 sold close to 30 thousand consoles for the week.
Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Destiny 2 Guns Its Way to Number 1 on PS4
At this rate, PS4 might pass 6 million in Japan alone by the year's end.
5.5 million is already an absolute certainty.
That means that PS4 could also pass PS Vita this year, despite PS Vita launching in 2011 and PS4 in 2014 in Japan, and PS Vita being a handheld.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Destiny 2 Down Dramatically Compared to First Game
@Toadie Wii had a lot of quality third party games that also sold well. Just because you say they're "shovelware", doesn't mean they actually are.
@Constable_What Yeah, that's right!
Re: UK Sales Charts: Destiny 2 Down Dramatically Compared to First Game
@manu0 "dude just look at that top 10. the first nine games are horrible."
The first 9 games also happen to be PS4/XB/multiplatform titles, and the tenth game is the only Switch game. Yes, "horrible", obviously.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Destiny 2 Down Dramatically Compared to First Game
@manu0 "it's a completely pointless comparison. and considering UK have terrible taste in games it's actually doing quite well."
What? Just what? I thought Switch fans couldn't get any more ridiculous but here we are.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Destiny 2 Down Dramatically Compared to First Game
@manu0 Oh yes, Mario and Rabbids, those completely unknown niche indie properties, on a system starved for games, compared to a remake that came out in June, on a system with a ton of other games... it's just unfair!

It's all about Knack 2 baybee!
Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Everybody's Golf Swings Straight to the Top on PS4
@Derpie1 Yeah, of course. But it's expected that PS4 will have a longer total lifespan than Switch will.
Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Everybody's Golf Swings Straight to the Top on PS4
@Feena PS4 and Switch will continue to coexist in the same market for a long time. They're in the same generation.

Played the Ys VIII demo finally. Very promising, will get the full game.
Besides that, some 2DS games. No time for big games this weekend.

A-meh-zing.

@FullbringIchigo What? No physical? That's a shame!
Good news still, but this needs a physical edition.
Re: Japanese Sales Charts: PS4 Back on Top as Switch Numbers Plummet
@triforcehero It's right there in the chart:
[PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition (SIE, 03/19/15) – 3,942 (1,195,570)
But Minecraft is a very rare exception, very few Vita games reach even 100,000 units sold. And of course, Minecraft is not very "recent" either.
