Also, PSP was a very popular handheld in Japan. As well as the PS4 is doing, it won't reach PSP numbers in Japan, and with a smaller install base come smaller sales compared to PSP games.
Worldwide, PS4 will pass PSP this year and will go far beyond in the years to come.
"PS4 is still slugging it out in second place. All platforms saw sales drop, with Sony's current-gen system dipping to around 33,000 units. The PS4 Pro, meanwhile managed to stay above the 10,000 mark."
What a weird way of counting PS4 sales. It sold a combined 43,808 systems for a very comfortable first place.
I reckon simply nobody expected GTAV to be just this huge of a hit. Of course GTA has always been big, but this is just gargantuan. GTAV is on another level.
It looked like Just Dance 2018 was heading down again after the holiday bump but now it got a smaller bump back to 28. Will it keep hanging on in the charts like JD2017 and the others did?
Nice list, but 10 games isn't enough, even if it's "best of". This could be an article series even. Board and social games, music games, fighting, racing, platforming, action, there are loads of multiplayer games across different genres on PS4.
Monster Hunter World will bump PS4 sales in Japan, but by how much? On Wii, Monster Hunter Tri bumped Wii sales to a total of over 200,000 in the four weeks following its release. Will we see similar sales for PS4 hardware in Japan outside of a holiday season?
@Grawlog Nintendolife has gone to the dogs in how biased they are these days, and the fanboys aren't any better. I still visit the site sometimes to check on 2DS news, and may deliver a reminder that their Nintendo fan glasses aren't showing everything. Sometimes they go as far as leaving big news completely unreported because the news doesn't fit their bias.
@Grawlog Oh yeah, that price point thing really hurt Wii U too, and the climate was all wrong for Wii U. We should all just "please understand" how the Wii U and NS turned out.
@JLPick I went there to check, and I still couldn't find any news of the NPD results there. Must have been a bitter pill for them to swallow.
Some of the diehard Nintendo fanboys there probably wouldn't like it if the staff made something as outrageous as reporting on sales figures that weren't what the NS fans were expecting.
@PS_Nation Over 60 000 for a home console in Japan on a week when there were no major releases? That's absolutely great.
PS4 has already sold close to 6 million systems in Japan, at a faster rate than PS3 did. That 6 million will happen in January, and 7 million will also happen next year. PS Vita might not ever reach even 6 million in Japan, and that's in a country that absolutely loves its handhelds.

Sure, CoD is still at the top, but as whole it's quite different, back when Nintendo had successful systems.
@KingSandyRavage It's the same thing that was previously discussed in this thread. Even Wii U got some big hits, but having those one off hits didn't help it in the long run. When you've got a single tentpole release like Mario or Zelda, the people who own the system will get that because they really don't have much choice.
Me, I'll rather take my pick from the countless games available on PS4 than settle for Mario and Zelda. Sony's success with PS4 is because of great games and great hardware. It's amusing to see people like you trying to downplay that while trying to drum up the same old Nintendo yawn fests.
@KingSandyRavage Look at those top lists. PS4 is selling a lot of games. Not a game, games. It's not just selling one single game, it's putting big numbers for a great diversity of games.
@KingdomHeartsFan PS4 has lots of the casual audience by now. A big part of the Wii userbase has moved onto PS4 as reported several times now.
NS install base is still mostly Nintendo fans and early adopters. The mass market audience buys a lot of their systems in November, and the low sales for NS this month show that they're currently not very interested in the system.
@get2sammyb No, the models are great. Also remake of SC1, so they're probably meant to reference those designs instead of making completely new designs.
It has been a fantastic year for PS4, and it's showing no sings of stopping. Well deserved, the PS4 is simply leaps and bounds ahead of the competition.
Just Dance 2018, now that I've played a fair share of it I can say that the tracklist is great and the features are great. It may just be the altogether best Just Dance game of them all.

@Grawlog "I own consoles from every manufacturer and don't play the one that has the shiniest branding; I play what's fun."
You know what, that's me too! Guess our conception of what's fun and what's all branding and nothing to back it up is different.
Re: Japanese Sales Charts: PS4, PS4 Pro Continue to Sell Well Over the Holidays
@Grawlog But when you make excuses for the NS, you are a Nintendo apologist. That has always been my problem with NS fans.
Enjoy what you like, but don't try to make it something it isn't.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: PS4, PS4 Pro Continue to Sell Well Over the Holidays
PS4 game sales are probably spread out over a lot of different releases, judging from those over 65 thousand hardware sales.
For those keeping track, the NS is around 1 million behind the 3DS in Japan compared to the same point in the 3DS life cycle.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Crash Bandicoot Climbs the List for Christmas

@BAMozzy VGC****** is complete rubbish. You can't trust them in matters like this, and you shouldn't even link them.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Yakuza: Kiwami 2 and Earth Defense Force 5 Take Top Spots
PS4 closing in on 6 million fast.
@Kidfried Actually, PS4 has sold more in Japan than PS3 did in the same timeframe.
Still, good sales for remake like you said.
Re: PSX 2017: SoulCalibur VI Sharpens Up with More Gameplay Footage
@get2sammyb No, the models are great. Also remake of SC1, so they're probably meant to reference those designs instead of making completely new designs.
Re: Mega Man 11 Announced Out of Nowhere, Mega Man X Series Confirmed for PS4
@carlos82 Nintendo has made some great controllers: Wiimote, SNES Pad, Wii Classic Controller Pro.
But they've also made some really bad ones: GameCube, Wii U Gamepad, NS controllers.
Unfortunately now it's the era of "bad controller Nintendo" again.
Re: SoulCalibur VI Returns to the Stage of History on PS4 in 2018
Finally! The SC series has been a bit hit and miss lately, but hopefully this one returns the series to PS2 and SC2 level quality.
Re: Mega Man 11 Announced Out of Nowhere, Mega Man X Series Confirmed for PS4
@carlos82 "you can't convince me that it's not the best pad since the GameCube"
GameCube pad was terrible. It's not hard being better than that, but being better than that sorry excuse of a controller still doesn't make it good.
Re: Mega Man 11 Announced Out of Nowhere, Mega Man X Series Confirmed for PS4
@carlos82 Yeah Hori usually makes great pads. But the NS Pro... yeuch.

Have never liked the game awards really. Will be skipping this in favor of PSX.
Re: Mega Man 11 Announced Out of Nowhere, Mega Man X Series Confirmed for PS4
@carlos82 That Dpad is Xbox 360 level of bad. Unacceptable.
Re: Mega Man 11 Announced Out of Nowhere, Mega Man X Series Confirmed for PS4
@carlos82 How are you going to play Mega Man without a real D-pad?
Re: Mega Man 11 Announced Out of Nowhere, Mega Man X Series Confirmed for PS4
@Nickolaidas That's very easy. Just get Mega Man Legacy Collection and MMLC2.
Play at least MM2, 3, 4, 7, 9 and 10.
