@themcnoisy It's a slow season. People are spending more time outside in the sun and less time playing or buying games. With that said, PS4, 2DS and 3DS are obviously seeing a lot of play time judging by the number of games they have in the top 20, and the number of systems sold for these several years old platforms.

@get2sammyb Dedicated portable devices are so "dead" that Nintendo is releasing a brand spanking New 2DS XL this summer.

Oh, and did you see the sales of Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia? Number 1 in Japan, number 5 in UK multiplat chart (with a single version), and that's just the first week.

Those are ridiculously low Switch numbers for a system that was launched just 2 months ago.

Meanwhile, PS4 and 2DS/3DS holding steady. That massive back catalog is doing its work.

This shows that visual design trumps raw processing power.

@Orpheus79V Did you see the news about the US sales? The sales plummeted there too, and only one day after launch.

I agree that long-term sales are a better indicator of success or lack of it, but Switch fans are desperate to call this a "success" without accepting that the sales will slow down even more over time.

Not my kind of game, but it's cool that PS4 is getting this.

@Godsent Here's what MK8 Switch has to compete against, worldwide:

Mario Kart 8 Wii U - 8 million and counting
Mario Kart 7 - 15 million and counting
Mario Kart Wii - 37 million and counting

Currently, MK8 Switch is falling short from all of those.

@Godsent Staggering? Mario Kart Wii sold 1.2 million at launch, just in the US. And millions more worldwide. That's staggering.

@Orpheus79V @Godsent In Japan, MK8 Switch sales also fell really quick, even though the attach rate is much lower than what Zelda has. It's probably the same in UK.

Let's face it: even most Switch owners didn't want this port, despite the game drought the system has had since launch.

Mario Kart 8's Switch version is losing speed, despite what some Switch fans insisted. Prey rising above it after its launch week is telling. And not only Prey, but GTAV too.

Nice style, but not too excited about the gameplay...

@KratosMD Great to hear that! I agree, Fire Emblem is generally a quality series, despite a few duds like Shadow Dragon.

@KratosMD If you haven't bought it yet, don't get Shadow Dragon. It was already worse than the GBA Fire Emblem games, and Wii U's terrible DS Virtual Console makes it even worse...erer. Seriously, it's the worst.

Get a 2DS XL and continue with Echoes or Fates when you're done with the GBA installments.

@ShogunRok Plenty of promising games in that montage. PS4 really hitting its stride.

Who cares? It looks great on PS4, and if it comes to other platforms, it'll probably be great on them too.

Quiet weeks. The new releases now are more niche stuff like Dragon Quest Heroes II and Fire Emblem Echoes, which won't claim top spots in the charts outside Japan.

You Don't Know Jack is great, but there's certainly room for more quiz games on PS4.

@waluigifan1 Also your PS4 should see more action. Have you tried Just Dance 2017, Dragon Quest Heroes II, Shantae, Wonderboy: Dragon's Trap, Odin Sphere, A Boy and His Blob, Rogue Legacy, Valkyria Chronicles just to name a "few"?

@waluigifan1 Have you looked into the 2DS? Plenty of great games there, released and upcoming, from Super Mario Maker, Zelda and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy to Fire Emblem, Miitopia and Dragon Quest XI (with a different version on PS4, of course).

I have a feeling Sony is gonna smash it out of the park.

I expect to see more zagging from Sony at E3.

Considering this. It's been AGES since I've played a Puyo Puyo title, and a while since the last good Tetris title too (Tetris Party Deluxe on Wii).

@Octane Mario Kart 8 for Wii U plus all the DLC is cheaper than the Switch version these days. Switch version is inferior and costs more.

Two big ones: no Mii characters, and inferior controls. Those already make it an inferior port. Then add in all the other things like paid online, and crappy Switch hardware, and it's obvious that Wii U Mario Kart 8 is the superior version.

@BLP_Software The Mario Kart port is a downgrade. I wouldn't want to buy or play that, when I already have the superior Wii U version.

Seeing this collection released was a fantastic surprise. It's like the Wii Virtual Console is being complemented on the PS4!

@whywai88 They did expect it to sell well, it had enough copies to go number 1 after all. They just didn't expect it to sell this well.

@Dodoo The initial Nintendo estimates were super low. Wii U shipped 3.06 million in just a little over a month when it was launched. See how that went?

Remember, the original estimates had Switch selling much less than Wii U. Now it's still selling less than Wii U. That's not good.

People need to remember that Switch is a new system, and new systems sell for some time after launch. But Switch numbers are currently worse than what Wii, 3DS and Wii U did after launch.

PS4 is having a dry spell, but it still has 8 games in top 20, more than any other system. This is the calm before the June-July storm.

@Dodoo Nope. Switch is doing quite badly on its own. By this time after its launch, Wii had already sold over 1.2 million systems! 3DS had sold close to 900,000 systems... and that got a discount 4 months in!

Nintendo must be hoping for a turnaround, because currently Switch is selling even worse than Wii U did after its launch!

Wait, this is coming out in Japan the same month as Dragon Quest XI? It's gonna be a bloodbath!

This is a great buy for those who don't want to upgrade the hard drive themselves. But if you don't mind the tiny bit of tinkering, it's better to just buy the cheapest Slim you can get and the biggest hard drive you want.

That cover image (of the car flying in the air) just makes me wish there was something like Excite Truck on PS4.

@xMEADx Also, this is a record-breaking entry for the Persona series. It smashed all previous sales records and expectations.

Wow! The demand for Persona 5 must have been crazy last week!

@xMEADx This is real. A game isn't number 1 one week and then completely vanish the next week unless the stock is completely exhausted.

Here's the important thing: Switch has been selling slower than Wii U, 3DS, or Wii, on a per-day basis. Switch had an abnormal launch month as it was launched in the beginning of March, not the end of the month as the other systems it's being compared to.

That means that the Switch "monthly" sales figure from NPD looks inflated, but it has actually been selling at a slower rate than Nintendo's other systems so far. Don't believe the hype and the PR. Check the figures yourself.
