@UltimateOtaku91 It's not even just about numbers, it's about the specialities of those staff. Chances are that most of those 30 staff were Multiplayer related, such as Netcode engineers, MP designers etc...
It's part of the reason these Live Service endeavours from SP studios, like Bend, ND or say Arkane Austin before it's closure to give an Xbox example struggle. They staff up quickly to cover for capabilities they've never had before and that their pipeline isn't designed for. They then have a few years of development hell struggling to make a game while also learn how to account for MP, make a lesser game for it (Redfall for example. Having played it, it might have been a good game if it was SP from the start and Arkane had been able to do what they do best). Then, when it inevitably underwhelms/gets cancelled, and theyre finally turned back to SP games these studios are left with a bunch of staff they no longer have any need for and so of course they lay them off. It totally sucks, but the pattern makes absolute sense when you look at it
@thefourfoldroot1 I think that's well put. It's not that MP is low IQ, arguably it's higher IQ given players are (mostly) smarter than in game AI, and at very least the difficulty is tuned higher. "Low IQ" thus sounds quite dismissive and was maybe poor wording, but really refers to any achievement that requires THAT volume of anything. "Kill 50k grubs" in the campaign would be just as bad.
@Godot25 The ESO,SoT,FO76 segments are only disappointing when it feels like a few of those games like Everwild and Fable that I reaaaallly wanted to see more of just didn't show up. Otherwise they're fine even if I know I won't play them, but I suppose they make sense to have here. It only hurts when other things didnt show up 🥲
@AdamNovice Xbox do think about licensed songs, and pay to have the licenses for those songs and Co streamers in their presentations. The problem is that these sites tend to strike first and ask questions later
@UltimateOtaku91 Pretty much. It made sense then, when Xbox was finally managing to do a good job of enticing Japanese developers who'd never brought their games to Xbox before to actually do so. It was a genuine win for them (not at anyone else's expense, just some positive news). Whereas now it's expected. No one is really doing Xbox Exclusives anymore other than Xbox, who are getting out of doing them themselves, but at the same time fare fewer games are skipping the platform, at least not permanently.
They're no longer fighting the "no games" narrative, or the expectations that 3rd parties won't support them, and their own support for other platforms has been established firmly.
@UltimateOtaku91 I don't think they every thought they wanted to fool people. Same way Sony never thought they were fooling anyone when they showed off let's say CoD: Cold War at the PS5 launch and didn't put an Xbox logo on the trailer. We all know it's multiplatform, but it's about emphasising it's on your platform.
In the case of the Atlus games, they'd never been on Xbox before, so emphasising they now were was actually quite useful for them.
With that said, after the last few reveals I'd say the point has been made an underlined, so this time it would be a bit annoying if they had the same embargo again.
@Perturbator There is 0 percent chance the MindsEye isn't just a couple of trailers/cinematics on each others shoulders in a trench coat just pretending to be a game. At best the gameplay will be a decent tech demo. At worst, it'll be a The Day Before situation.
@EfYI Calling out CoD for doing the same old thing... but then revealing that Splitgate 2 has yet another Battle Royale somewhat undercut that message 😅
@PsBoxSwitchOwner I think that might be a given most years from here on out. For Keighley, the show is for profit which means ramming it full of ads and paid trailers. Which means for every dcenet reveal it's got to pay the bills with Gacha trailer money etc....
Whereas Sony just don't have the volume to do the big showcases they used to, at least not every year.
Leaving Xbox with the winning combination of a large volume of 1st party reveals, that also don't need to worry about filler, and paid ads, as they're funding the show themselves. Further compounded by Sony not doing their own full showcases making it easier for them to get 3rd party marketing rights, like for the Persona Remakes and Methaphor.
The next time we see a truely competing showcase could be the inevitable end of PS5/PS6 launch line-up showcases. As the end of one gen and the start of the next had always been when Sony clusters their releases the most.
@UltimateOtaku91 Blame Sony for shafting you, not Atlus. They could pay to put the games on PS Plus like Xbox do for Gamepass. But they don't, because they know they can milk you.
Buy the game or don't, but denying yourself a game because it's on a service you had no interest in anyway and are unaffected by is childish and just shooting yourself in the foot.
@Titntin Trying to pretend the current success of the PS5 and Sony is still the same as it was for the PS1 launch is just silly. The brand undoubtedly started on the back of 3rd party, but they didn't keep that position and curb stomp Xbox out of the hardware market off just 3rd party content. No, they did it last gen off 1st party, while their strong 3rd party support drove the point home.
There's big fan bases for both Sony's 1st party content and their 3rd party curating, and altrying to play down one in favour of the other is just dumb. Both were and are critical to many fans of the brand, and those who are hungry for more first party Sony content are well within their rights to feel frustrated at this point, just as many Xbox fans were frustrated during the Xbox One generation/Early Xbox Series Gen at how few 1st party games they were putting out.
Tl;Dr, Sony have built their house on two pillars, 1st party and 3rd party and they're only consistently delivering on one of those right now
@Lowdefal It's less baffling when you take it in the context thtlat Sony have only held 2 actual summer showcases (or showcases at all for that matter, not SoPs) since the PS5 reveal. Basically 5 years now, and one of those was mostly dedicated to Fairgames, Concord and Marathon, the core of Sony's failed live service initiative (and SM2, but that was already announced).
For any individual SoP, yesterday's show was great, but people are rightfully pretty impatient for Sony to finally out out a one of their blockbuster, 1st party focused summer showcases of old. I bet we'll see something big from them at the SGF show, but compared to how first party focused the Xbox showcase will inevitably be for the 4th year in a row now, it not a great look.
But yes, once fans take a deep breath, and look at things reasonably they should see that was a really solid show.
@nessisonett It's a licensing thing. The licenses have expired now, you can't even buy it on Xbox any more (but you can download and play it if you already own it)
@Titntin Ever since Forza Horizon one, the writing for the 'story' in those games has always felt deliberately silly and corny. The problem is, that worked better in FH1 where you had a career mode where you'd go up against specific characters etc... in the story as you progressed. Whereas since 2, where the festival and progression is more free-form without that same "story" to it, the silliness doesn't work quite as well. Hardly a deal breaker, but it would be fun if they moved back towards FH1 style a bit more again.
@themightyant More than that, at the end of the day it will have been Microsoft that made this trailer. If they're going to be a publisher, I think they know it's better to do it properly than sort of half ass it. And then as you said, Sony are all to happy to oblige for obvious reasons.
@CutchuSlow In theory they could have ordered Microsoft to sell/spin off at least some if not all of the ABK divisions they'd aquired. This long after that fact however it can get pretty blurred, and so very very rarely happens
@DennisReynolds Okay, at least name enough for it to be more than PS then? I can't think of many beyond Stalker 2. I'm sure there have been more, but not many major ones.
As for pretending like they aren't, seem to recall Spny pretending they didn't pay for Black Myth Wukong exclusivity? And more importantly a whole load of permanent exclusivity deals, like Forespoken, FF16, Stellar Blade etc...
It's all just silly at this point, timed or otherwise no one should really do it, but timed is the lesser evil when compared to permanent
@DennisReynolds Not officially, but it's a remaster. Ultimately they ARE porting it from somewhere to get it working on PS5 and Series consoles. Now, maybe they're just using the original PC version rather than the 360/ps3 versions for their respective platforms, but either way they haven't entirely built the game from the ground up
Also, in what world have Xbox had more timed exclusive deals this gen than Sony? Frankly the timed part is irrelevant, the deals being short is better than permanent, in which case they've not had anywhere close to as many 3rd party exclusive deals.
Sounds like it might be more of a backwards compatibility issue to me? I've got to guess they turned this around pretty quickly after the success of Space Marine 2, but that porting the PS3 version to the 5 is taking longer than the 360 version to Series consoles.
The PS3s architecture being alot less PC like, which is basically what modern consoles now are.
Worth noting, that many Gamepass players will sti have bought the Deluxe edition upgrades for the early access and DLC, which can significantly boost revenue from that portion of the player base.
@Oram77 Okay, but they have been making games. They've launched Avowed, South of Midnight and Doom The Dark Ages on top of those games this year so far, and Indiana Jones might be a port but it was a recent release.
@get2sammyb Just go in and judge it for yourself. It's definitely more of an experience than a gamey game, but it's not objectively bad like some people suggest. Merely not for everyone.
@MrMagic Nice little deflect there. I asked for a source that it flopped. Nothing about that proves the game flopped, you're just seemingly desperate for it to have done so. Trusted source or not, those are some pretty vague figures in the tweet, hardly a rock solid basis for flperformance analysis.
Now it's clearly not had stratospheric sales, but you really can't judge gamepass games by those alone. Given how many large games just came out, alot of players are probably just finishing up those first, I know I'm clearing out a few I've already started first.
But 1 week is way too fast to be judging a game as a success or failure, especially if it's not a live service. That goes as much for people over hyping the game as it does for people like you trying to put it down.
@Boxmonkey Player counts comr out for every Gamepass launch, because sales alone aren't a good indicator for blindingly obvious reasons. They came out for Expedition 33 as well....
@MFTWrecks Not saying you're wrong, but I don't understand how some people could love 2016, but hate Eternal. Prefer 2016 and not like Eternal as much sure, but hate? I mean, they're quite different, but not the full swing from love to hate different 😅
@Balaam_ Plenty of games have NPC that stand still waiting for you to come to them.... like alot of games. Including incredibly highly rated ones. The game isn't trying to be a sandbox game like Oblivion/Skyrim.
As for graphical downgrade, much of the time the game is drop dead gorgeous. While I agree, it's at its best while it's less colourful, and I wish it had stuck closer to the original reveal tone as well, it's still a good game.
Hopefully if they do a second one it's set outside the Living Lands and will be less over the top Bioluminesent
@Romans12 Plus, even when Xbox gamers outright buy games, stats they pretty much only buy digitally any more. Lord knows I haven't in about 6 or 7 years. Not new games anyway
@Roswell75 According to DF it mostly runs at 60 on base PS5, but drops into the lower 50s more often than they'd have liked as well. Though given the Series X version is an almost locked 60, I'd expect patches in the coming weeks will improve that on the base PS5 as well.
@K1LLEGAL I don't think that they meant Xbox doing the thing was frustrating, but that it's frustrating watching Sony do essentially nothing for backward compatibility, while Xbox are far ahead on the issue and are still doubling down.
@thefourfoldroot1 To be fair, it does at least come with all the (non MTX) DLC for the game since launch. Also, totally understand that you'd wait. It's been four years, what's 7 or 8 more months?
@thefourfoldroot1 I think they left those deliberately, as good or bad, they were ultimately trying to keep it the Oblivion it always was.
That said, I'd personally have loved an option in the character creator to chose between "Legacy scaling" and "Updated Scaling". That would have been the perfect compromise I think. Though, maybe it isn't that simple
@UltimateOtaku91 Love or hate Starfield but it's pretty delusional to lump it in the same camp as Redfall. The later is a game that wasn't a whole lot bigger than Concord, whereas Starfield was the most played single player game of the year by recorded hours. It was undoubtedly a commercial success, just not the evergreen, never ending 80 million copies lifetime success that Skyrim was.
@get2sammyb It's probably less that they hate physical games, and more that their user base hasn't been buying them. Personally speaking, having Gamepass hasn't stopped me buying games as well, but it has gotten me in the habit of going fully digital. I believe the stats show the same for most players.
It'll be curious to see if this move to publishing on PlayStation entices them back to physical releases, especially once they're at the day and date multiplatform stage. Is Doom getting one?
@PlatinumMikey True, though they had the luxury of doing so due to the domination of the PS2 era. They didn't need to buy studios then, the way they bought psygnosis back during the PS1 gen for example. , they were all but unchallenged until the Xbox 360. 2018 MS didnt have the same option of playing things slowly, deserved or otherwise. Besides, a fair few of Xbox's acquisitions were based off of longer histories, like Bethesda, Playground games, Double Fine or Ninja Theory, just not all as exclusive based as Sony ones.
@PlatinumMikey You say that like Sony don't have an effective console monopoly themselves. Obviously there's the switch, but that's a different segment of the market.
@johnedwin For what it's worth, as a Gamepass player on Xbox I play my games too. But at a time lime this when they've dropped like 4 or 5 titles at the same time in the last 2 months I wanted to play, I find myself playing them in parallel. So my playtime on each is less over a short term period, but in the long term it ends up being just as long.
I'm sure there are a higher percentage of Gamepass players who do give up on games quicker, but it's not an Xbox vs PS thing, it's a buyer vs sub thing. The same will apply to PS Plus for example.
@Flaming_Kaiser It's not so much that Gamepass doesn't make enough money, and more a case of, their hardware sales were declining before they really even started going multiplatform anyway so they had little to lose by doing so, but as the figures show alot more money that they could be making.
@Chimmy1024 A Lost Odyssey Remake/Remaster bringing in the dame sort of vane as the Oblivion Remaster would be incredible. Or even just a sequel to be honest 🤔
@get2sammyb Wprth noting that's physical sales not all sales. Data suggests Xbox players tend to go all digital even when buying and not just for downloading from Gamepass.
Still, it does show just how differently the platforms have skewed
@Anke All 5 million of the Xbox players paid for it. The question is how many bought the game outright.
Chances are it's a few hundred K and then the remaining ~4.5 Million played on Gamepass, but what I'd be genuinely curious to know is how many Gamepass players got the Early access/DLC upgrade as I imagine that will have been alot higher than on PS5.
@lazarus11 Stip with the silly Console war stuff. For starters, actual developers don't care about that, they just like players. Either way, gamepass is still paying for the game, just in a different way, clearly it works for Xbox or they'd have stopped doing it by now.
Ultimately this is more a reminder for PlayStation fans who might think the game would be an Xbox exclusive given that Bethesda and ID Software are now a part of them.
From my playtime so far on a Series X Performance mode has felt buttery smooth, while Quality was really pretty bad even if it was a locked 30 it just looks blurry. I'm guessing PS5 is much the same really.
Maybe VRR was doing some heavy lifting? But it feels miles better than something like Cyberpunk did at launch.

That said, I'd personally have loved an option in the character creator to chose between "Legacy scaling" and "Updated Scaling". That would have been the perfect compromise I think. Though, maybe it isn't that simple
Re: Halo the Final PS5 Holdout of Xbox's Historic Big Three
@UltimateOtaku91 Love or hate Starfield but it's pretty delusional to lump it in the same camp as Redfall. The later is a game that wasn't a whole lot bigger than Concord, whereas Starfield was the most played single player game of the year by recorded hours. It was undoubtedly a commercial success, just not the evergreen, never ending 80 million copies lifetime success that Skyrim was.
Re: Xbox's Gears of War: Reloaded Will Play Best on PS5 Pro
@get2sammyb It's probably less that they hate physical games, and more that their user base hasn't been buying them. Personally speaking, having Gamepass hasn't stopped me buying games as well, but it has gotten me in the habit of going fully digital. I believe the stats show the same for most players.
It'll be curious to see if this move to publishing on PlayStation entices them back to physical releases, especially once they're at the day and date multiplatform stage. Is Doom getting one?
Re: Oblivion Remastered Sales Explode in the US, Becomes Third Best-Selling Game of 2025
@heavyartillery56 The idea that Todd and the BGS team are salty about FO:NV is basically entirely made up by fans
Re: PS Store Sales Charts: The Top Three Best-Selling Games on PS5 Are from Microsoft
Re: PS Store Sales Charts: The Top Three Best-Selling Games on PS5 Are from Microsoft
@PlatinumMikey You say that like Sony don't have an effective console monopoly themselves. Obviously there's the switch, but that's a different segment of the market.
Re: Plenty of People Are Playing Expedition 33 on PS5, Despite Having to Actually Buy It
@johnedwin For what it's worth, as a Gamepass player on Xbox I play my games too.
Re: Plenty of People Are Playing Expedition 33 on PS5, Despite Having to Actually Buy It
@throwmeaname That's only really an option for those who have both Platforms. Or at least a PS and PC
Re: One of the Biggest PS5, PS4 Games Appears to Be on the Cusp of Massive Change
That's exactly what it means, but we've know that for a few months now anyway
Re: Xbox's Multiformat Move to PS5 Seems to Be Working Out Very Well for Microsoft
@Flaming_Kaiser It's not so much that Gamepass doesn't make enough money, and more a case of, their hardware sales were declining before they really even started going multiplatform anyway so they had little to lose by doing so, but as the figures show alot more money that they could be making.
Re: Xbox's Multiformat Move to PS5 Seems to Be Working Out Very Well for Microsoft
@Chimmy1024 A Lost Odyssey Remake/Remaster bringing in the dame sort of vane as the Oblivion Remaster would be incredible. Or even just a sequel to be honest 🤔
Re: UK Sales Charts: Expedition 33 Debuts in Second Place, Almost All Sales for PS5 Version
@get2sammyb Wprth noting that's physical sales not all sales. Data suggests Xbox players tend to go all digital even when buying and not just for downloading from Gamepass.
Still, it does show just how differently the platforms have skewed
Re: Indiana Jones PS5 Is Selling Faster Than Xbox and PC, Claims Analysts
@Anke All 5 million of the Xbox players paid for it. The question is how many bought the game outright.
Chances are it's a few hundred K and then the remaining ~4.5 Million played on Gamepass, but what I'd be genuinely curious to know is how many Gamepass players got the Early access/DLC upgrade as I imagine that will have been alot higher than on PS5.
Re: DOOM: The Dark Ages Reveals Cosmic Realm, a Lovecraftian Area with New Weapons, Enemies
Re: Bethesda Shows Solidarity with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 After Oblivion Remastered Launch
@DarkTron Trust me, those of us with Gamepass are aware CO:33 is coming to Gamepass
Re: Hands On: Oblivion Remastered Is Still Oblivion in All Its Glory, Crap Frame Rate Aside
