The recently released PS5 versions for Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have sent overall sales of the games into overdrive in the USA, as confirmed by new Circana data.
Forza Horizon 5 was the second-best-selling game of April 2025, beaten only by Oblivion Remastered. The month prior, the open world racer was the 42nd best-selling title. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, meanwhile, was last month's sixth best-selling game. The month before its PS5 release, it was positioned 118th.
Demonstrating why Microsoft has decided to go multi-platform, Forza Horizon 5 released on 29th April, meaning that it achieved this sales success for the month across just two days of PS5 sales. More recent reporting suggests the game had sold 1.2 million units on PS5 as of 5th May.
It's also claimed Indiana Jones is selling faster on PS5 than it did on Xbox Series X|S, but the Game Pass subscription service is, of course, a huge factor in there being fewer sales on Microsoft hardware.
Looking more generally at the USA sales numbers for April 2025, Oblivion Remastered topped the chart after selling more copies than the original Xbox 360, PS3 version did in its first 15 months on the market. The second season of The Last of Us on HBO looks to have given The Last of Us 2 a sales boost also, as it rose from 23rd to 13th.
The previous month's best-seller, Assassin's Creed Shadows, dropped to fifth for April 2025, while Monster Hunter Wilds slipped to 11th.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also launched towards the end of April, but the RPG doesn't appear in any of the sales data reported. On the topic, Mat Piscatella of Circana said the following:
On the hardware front, the PS5 was once again the best-selling console in terms of both units and dollar sales, but the latter declined by five per cent compared to the same month in 2024. The PS5 DualSense controller in the Midnight Black colourway was the industry's best-selling accessory in the USA.

Split Fiction in top 10, love to see it!
Nice boost for The Last of Us 2!
KCD2 still in the top 20 is such a W.
it's ironic that Sony has focussed so much on the hardware wars and forgetting to make games for their own system, and now Microsoft and swooping in to fill the void....
@liathach I mean, Forza is a import, Obivion is as remaster, so I wouldn't say MS have been making many games either...
@liathach Sony pivoted to live service, and then away from it. This is the lull in between those two things.
It's not that deep.
@liathach They bought two of the biggest publishers on the planet and have been porting over their entire back catalogue.
What did you expect to happen?
Even if Sony had put every single one of its developers on single player games, it still can't compete with the sheer scale of Xbox's ~$100 billion investment.
Interesting expedition 33 sold over 2 million so far and didn’t register on the charts.
@liathach Almost like MS has way more Devs and that these big single players games everyone wants from Sony take years to make. Like seriously even in the PS4 era we were only really getting 1 or 2 big SP exclusives each year from Sony.
Really hope we can put the console war crap aside now. Microsoft is releasing good games on everything now so hopefully all the fanboys can shut up now
@liathach You're 100% right. Half of the comments will be butthurt PlayStation CUSTOMERS mad that Xbox software is heading over to PlayStation overtaking first party sales and they'll look for any reason to punch down at other CUSTOMERS who enjoy the titles they purchased.
I don't care what hardware people play on or what software they play, as long as they're having fun. Some of you people need to grow up.
One would think that Xbox going multiplatform would greatly reduce the astro-turfing here, but it seems like exactly the opposite is happening. 😂
@GeeForce No, they didn't touch a nerve, rather they made a false comment and were corrected on it.
They maybe 'old' games but its still the first time you can play on Playstation - hence the fact these probably weren't selling enough to make the top 30. Xbox and PC gamers would already have bought and/or played on Game Pass so its no surprise to see these jump up the charts now another 100m PS5 gamers can buy and play too...
@ButterySmooth30FPS It's because people keep pushing this narrative that PS5 has "no games" which gets bloody tedious. So some like to take swipes at the "opposition".
@liathach indeed. They totally forgot to make games. How silly of them.
@GeeForce corrected was correct.
@GeeForce There's nothing ironic. They didn't "forget" to make games for their own system. And it's not like the hardware people make games as well so they only focused on the hardware itself.
And Microsoft didn't swoop in to fill the void, rather the lull in Sony's output just so happens to coincide with Microsoft going full ham with multiformat publishing.
So yes, I corrected them.
@MrPeanutbutterz actually, it was an ironic comment intended in jest, but the essence of satire is an element of truth...
@GeeForce an ad impression is an ad impression whatever the context....
@DennisReynolds they would definitely have more big exclusives though if they hadn't of wasted there money and time with live service crap
@Dodoo I anssume Expedition 33’s Digital sales are not included here. This only includes digital sales if the publisher shares the data. Nintendo and some of the small publishers are not signed up top the agreement.
@liathach it’s insane how your comment lead to the whole comment section against you lol for saying a true statement
I’m so glad Microsoft bought those publishers, otherwise we’d be missing out on all these games and all the endless childish bragging that comes with them.
On topic, MLB doing pretty great, and FH5 getting to the number 2 spot of the mont, even though it released the 29th of April is pretty amazing!
@AdamNovice “ It's because people keep pushing this narrative that PS5 has "no games" which gets bloody tedious.”
Funny how the tables has turned with that comment. People used to throw that comment at the opposite team… Now that it has been returned to sender. Feelings are hurt.
@AverageGamer Yea thats pretty much spot on.
@Oram77 IJ in December, Avowed in Feb, South of Midnight in April, Doom in May. Amongst all their other releases (Oblivion/AOE expansions etc). I would say they are releasing a lot of games.
@AverageGamer Except back in the day there was an element of truth to it when all Xbox had was Halo, Gears and Forza. The same can't be said about PlayStation.
@AdamNovice There was no element of truth… Just cause people decided to not like the other titles they put out. Doesn’t mean there was no games.
I bought forza horizon 5,the 4 year old game that is superb. I'm having a lot of fun with this game and my brand spanking new thrustmaster t598 wheel just makes the game even better. God I hope we get a forza motorsport port at some point.
@Oram77 Okay, but they have been making games. They've launched Avowed, South of Midnight and Doom The Dark Ages on top of those games this year so far, and Indiana Jones might be a port but it was a recent release.
@Oram77 Mate, Microsoft released four first-party games since start of the year, not counting PS5 ports. And it's only May. They already have other four announced for rest of the year + obvious Call of Duty.
That's nine games. In 12 months...
@Godot25 Almost like they have bought 1/3 of all game studios...
@Oram77 So? All projects were funded by Microsoft so we can probably stop with whole "but they bought them."
Nobody cares that Sony bought Bungie lol. Marathon IS Sony game and is counted as such.
@Godot25 Brother I don't really care, I get to play these MS games anyway, like do you want me to give them a pat on the head for having a productive 12 months??
Removed - flaming/arguing
@Godot25 Not confused, my question still stands, do they want a pat on the head for being a game publisher (doing their job), oh didn't Avowed and south of midnight both kinda flop? Again I get to play Doom and Oblivion (hopefully Perfect dark too) but I also get to play A midnight walk, Ghost of Yotei and Lost soul aside ETC.
Removed - flaming/arguing
@Godot25 source? just look at reviews on metacritic or opencritic and the general consensus that both games were not really good
Ah so if you haven't heard of said games, you can just brush them aside, I would ask what games you play but from looking you only have one and it's Indiana which of course you gave it a 10/10 🙄
@GeeForce No nerves touched at all. Is this your first attempt at having a conversation, like, ever? Also, your obvious gaslighting is, well, obvious and won't work here. What I said is correct, and that's the end of it.
If it wasn't directed at me, then it was at myself and Sammy because our comments where the only one correcting the other fella when you originally said "you touched a nerve".
Can't wait to see you mental gymnastic display telling me how you touched a nerve again...
@liathach But it's not really ironic, is it?
Removed - flaming/arguing
@K1LLEGAL Assuming I only like games because they are on Playstaion, Bit weird.
The top 7 has 6 Game Pass titles?
