One of the Biggest PS5, PS4 Games Appears to Be on the Cusp of Massive Change 1

Make no mistake about it: Genshin Impact pioneered the current gaming climate. Without it, we wouldn’t have juggernauts like Wuthering Waves, Honkai: Star Rail, Infinity Nikki, and Zenless Zone Zero on the PS5.

But being the frontrunner means newcomers have been able to stand on its shoulders, and while the game has been evolving, it also feels ancient in many aspects as well.

HoYoverse has largely acknowledged that in a 20-minute livestream taking players behind-the-scenes of its next major expansion, Nod-Krai.

While this wasn’t a Special Program with concrete details, it instead attempted to delve into the developer’s goals – and it’s promising a storyline that will run for a full year and tie up many of Teyvat’s overlooked details.

Crucially, unlike previous locations in the game, Nod-Krai will draw all of the existing factions to a single location. The idea is to push the story towards its climax, while filling in any gaps of lore players may have missed.

It seems like one of its goal is to put more content on the screen, relying less on extensive text logs and the like. Our only hope is that it can keep the writing concise and meaningful; all of HoYoverse’s games suffer from an overabundance of proper nouns and an overall lack of editing.

It’ll be interesting to see just how much changes with the introduction of Nod-Krai, which is expecting to arrive around September time. In the video, it talked about getting key feedback from the likes of ex-Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida and FromSoftware honcho Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Genshin Impact is still an epic, extraordinary achievement. But now five years since it launched, with strong competition on the market, we hope it can continue to meaningfully evolve.
