Forza Horizon 5 and PS5 always felt like a match made in heaven – especially when you consider that PlayStation is very light on arcade racers these days, and has a large captive audience in Europe where the genre tends to perform well.
It’s not exactly surprising to see Alinea Analytics estimate sales of around 1.2 million units as of 5th May, then, which roughly accounts for around one week of sales. The racer officially launched on 29th April for Sony’s system, but did have a period of premium early access as well.
What’s perhaps most extraordinary about these numbers is that Microsoft is flogging Forza Horizon 5 at full-price to PS5 players, despite it being almost four years old at this point. It proves that the appetite is high for the game, and that the Redmond firm’s multiformat release strategy is working; the company’s been dominating PlayStation’s sales charts.
Alinea Analytics has previously analysed the sales data of Microsoft’s other PS5 ports, and determined that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is actually selling faster on PlayStation than on Xbox – although obviously Game Pass impacts the results of the latter format.
