Xbox's Gears of War: Reloaded Will Play Best on PS5 Pro

I know it was already expected but it’s still surreal to see PlayStation’s account actively promoting Gears of War lol

I am going to double dip this game on Series X and PS5 and Gears of War is my favorite IP in gaming and then Red Dead. I hope the mic on the controller plays the chainsaw on the lancer. That would be a nice touch, but i am a competitive gears player. Gears 5 i was top 5% in the world in wins, with a little over 2000 hours played. So there is no way i would use the triggers on Dual sense. Maybe in the campaign just to mess with it then turn it off. Can’t wait for some video gameplay of this. Shocked they didn’t have a little trailer for it.

So gears of war will play best on the ps5 Pro which is currently the world's most powerful console. I'd expect nothing less. I'm guessing that when halo launches on the ps5 that halo will also play best on the ps5 Pro too. I expect most games that have a ps5 Pro upgrade will play best on the pro too. I'll be buying gears of war as its one of the titles I missed playing when I switched back to Sony but I only have the basic og ps5 so I'll have to play the inferior version but that's life. At least I have forza horizon 5 to be getting on with.

Really enjoyed this game back in the day, so I’ll happily play it again. And for the hell of it, I’ll do it on my ps5 pro 🙂

It's a 20 year old game are people really that excited to play this?

I have a Pro but won’t be double dipping for this - happy to play the remastered remaster on XSX Gamepass.

It's wild to write headline like this in world where PC gaming exist lol...

Also, it is really surprising that game supports PS5 Pro? Since Sony is mandating support for that system?

@Fartingale Gears 2 and 3 remasters are obviously coming. Not only because of new PlayStation audience, but also because Gears 2 and 3 are not natively on PC.

But I guess charging 40€ for every single remaster is better for Microsoft than charging 70€ for remasters of three games. Gears 1 remaster probably got priority because it's easier game to remaster (since Ultimate edition already exist) and also to woven PS users into Gears universe since E-Day is coming.

And no physical copy right? Then no buy from me, instead i will gladly buy xbox 360 disc and play it on series x.

@Godot25 Its called copium 😄 but yes, it is naive to think of this. However, it is sad. As a physical media fan, i tend to skip these digital only games.

I bet the Pro WON'T do 120fps for the campaign, however. That's kind of the only thing I'd want added. It's going to look graphically great regardless so why not use the horsepower to bump up the refresh rate please.

@get2sammyb It's probably less that they hate physical games, and more that their user base hasn't been buying them. Personally speaking, having Gamepass hasn't stopped me buying games as well, but it has gotten me in the habit of going fully digital. I believe the stats show the same for most players.

It'll be curious to see if this move to publishing on PlayStation entices them back to physical releases, especially once they're at the day and date multiplatform stage. Is Doom getting one?

I'm not sure what age has to do with anything? A good game is a good game, especially when game design has been pretty static in those twenty years.

This also happens to be a landmark title of the aughts that a lot of PlayStation fans will never have played for obvious reasons, while this release itself happens to be a landmark moment for the industry - this is one of Microsoft's tentpole franchises, the same game that sold truckloads of consoles, and hitched the Xbox's entire identity to during the format's most successful period.

It's an industry-changing moment and appearing on PlayStation is a massive deal, so yeah, people are excited to play this on PlayStation.

I need a physical edition.

@RobbySuave Every game released after september 2024 needs to recognize "PS5 Pro" as a separate SKU. So therefore it is mandated.

It's like if people were acting surprised that Series S games also have Series X support lol.

@Northern_munkey They are actively advertising for that console just to give people fomo. I don’t doubt for a second that the pro performs better. As for me, there is no way in hell Im buying the pro. F**k the fomo, I am not buying into it. Gears of war will most probably to definitely be a buy for me.

This may also be part of Microsoft’s pledge to be carbon negative by a certain date (too lazy to look it up).

Though, with powering AI and the such, I am sure Microsoft is more going for the “obvious” planet-saving measures and telling people to ignore what’s behind the curtain.

I think your headline is fine - consoles are a completely different proposition to PC, and I have no clue why people insist on bringing PCs up (in the way that they do) in every article about Pro - Its almost trolling at this stage in a PS centered site.
I say this as someone who before Pro's announcement, had seriously started looking nto PC, and I might be forced there someday (I just cannot play at less than nearly locked 60fps these days, and favour approx 90fps), BUT, if I can avoid it I definitely will, even though I could afford a top spec rig if I wanted to.

@DennisReynolds And cheaper as well alongside the fact that i will physically own it. I do play retro games, so graphics are not the problem for me.

Besides, it makes for a silly headline to say 'play best on PC', which would equally be false as statement if you want to get serious, due to the fact that not all PCs are the same. Which PC? Whos PC?

Replaying a 20 year old game is still not enough incentive to buy a Pro for me, the PS4 Pro was the last mid gen iteration I will buy, once bitten and all that.

@Lysterao also the extra costs involved with physical media - distribution and production (currently exacerbated by America’s instigation of one of the biggest trade wars in recent modern history).

Digital media is by far the most cost effective approach from a publisher/developer viewpoint and at present time looks to be exempt from any issues related to tariffs.

@JustMyOpinion sub-headline could just read “ps5 pro the best place to play on console.” Again, it’s not that hard to be factually correct whilst also being concise.

And I guess you're only talking about the technical side, because I’d rather play it on Xbox console due to Xbox Game Pass.

I have great gaming PC, and a Pro. I play 99% of my games on the Pro. I am NOT a fan of Windows and use Mac's for anything non-gaming at work and home. My PC is an expensive console that requires TLC so that I can basically play DCS and MS FlightSim. If I ever quit flight sims I will sell the PC or give it away. The time suck of flight sims is real.

Yeah - PC can be more powerful than Pro, though a lot out there aren't, but only at a cost - money is one part of this of course, but cost difference is true of different power consoles.
But, as you call it 'TLC' is most definitely an issue almost confined entirely to PC. Its a completely different beast compared to console, and one I will do my best to avoid if I can - I much prefer the pick up and play in front of my TV aspect.

That all said, I am definitely not anti PC (although I do hate Windows too lol).

However, all I see with all these "PC better than Pro' comments, particularly on a console based site, is just a weird form of trolling - its like SOME (not all) PC owners feel genuinely threatened by Pro!

Sounds fair as Impulse triggers were good on Gears 4 & 5 as well as Forza Motorsport 5-7 even if I haven't experienced Sea of Thieves or others with them. I don't think much of Xbox One era games as much as OG Xbox/360 but they are decent I'll say that.

To me Xbox/Microsoft offering their games is like Sega, I never experienced the Sega transition but still. I understand the strategy/audience focus/money. Doesn't bother me. I own what I want on 360 of the mainstream IPs, not the smaller ones so to me I'm not missing out or care. But for those that haven't it's cool for them to get to experienced them for the first time or again since they had their 360s.

I'm not a Epic 360 Gears era fan or anything either. I don't get that into them really. 4 & 5 were decent. The 360 ones were fine games. Enjoyable of co-op, chainsaw, separate paths for co-op, fair gunplay (not my favourite but it works well for what they are going for. It feels distinct like Killzone does which is a good thing). It feels different enough to a Killswitch or Uncharted for cover based I'll say. Or others that try to copy it.

If no physical with a disk will be a bit eh as Gears Ultimate did and 4 or 5 had the code for the 360 versions of the prior games.

For a new platform to put them on, how big and so on I mean it's Gears, do they seriously want to save that much money yes. But it's still disappointing if they do.

I myself don't care as I own the 360 games and am happy with those but I haven't put them in my 360/One in a while because there are so many other shooters to experience left behind instead. Or other games in other genres.

They are good games in there. I don't find them that exciting to go back to compared to games with more exciting mechanics even if one or two offs but that's just me. I respect the Gears series.

To me PS3/360/Wii and prior had more mechanically or setting exciting shooters. So why would I play dull MP ones nowadays or can barely support other story based shooters these days, no one supports them enough so might as well go backwards if series go directions I don't like or we barely get the competition or ideas offered in any Indies, AA or AAA ones.

I mean this for ANY genre too.

@SquinkyEXE They have improved oblivion it looks like a modern game released today its boardlining on a complete remake while gears is practically identical to Gears of War Ultimate Edition from 2015 which barely improved anything from the 2006 original

I can play all of those on my steam deck or PC, and it will run better. My PS5 has been the first PS console since 1995 that has gathered dust.

@Fishnpeas Wait till you find out most console players don't PC game. I've been eating gold since the Pro launched and in fact i've been waiting gold all Gen because i play everything on my PS5, SS and Switch.
