Xbox RPG Avowed Should Be a Much Improved Game Once It Comes to PS5

Voice acting sounded dreadful from the clips I watched back when it launched. Do any of the patches fix that?

I’d be surprised if it didn’t come… probably wise to keep a distance between Oblivion: Remake and the eventual release of this though.

It’s going to come, the question is when. I’m very much looking forward to it. By all the reviews I’ve read, it seems like a solid Obsidian RPG, but the companions are quite disappointing. This is a shame, but it is what it is. Everything else seems great. I would have played it on Game Pass, but I had a backlog to work through so I don’t mind waiting for a lull in gaming, of which doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon.

Definitely not gonna care about this game when Oblivion remake exists.

So...now we have developers spending time needing create 'arachnophobia' alternate versions as well as many games still being forced to be compatible with Series S and PS4...and we still want games to be 59.99$. I hope someone wants to still be a game developer when they grow up. Sounds worse than McDonalds.

Might be a early 2026 title or late (December) release. With oblivion out, they probably give it a little space.

The game doesn’t look that fun to me

Even if people sound mediocre on it, I'd like to play it some day. I like those kinds of games..

I wonder if some of these titles will make their way to ps plus after a few years.

The npcs really drone on. It was a bit of a slog.

This one’s such a waste. When they first showed the initial teaser for Avowed (that arrow flying down into the chasm, followed by the purple rune magic and sword) it looked freaking awesome.

Then we got what we got.

A hideously repugnant, garish visual aesthetic inspired by those ugly kids’ art supplies made by Lisa Frank in the ‘90’s. And that’s just the graphical downfall, not even mentioning the lifeless locales (NPC’s literally stand rooted in place waiting for you to talk to them), generic level design and other shortcomings. As far as I’m concerned, they can keep Avowed. Less clutter in the PSN store.

Could be interested if it’s actually on the disc.

The improvements to NPCs will help.

It really is a bit soulless, NPCs don’t move, cities feel sparse because of it. The fact that they don’t react to things. That guards wont get involved in fights happening right on them or the player hitting them is just a bit crap to be honest.

Glad they are fixing it, but it likely still won’t be a patch on 20 year old Oblivions NPCs though.

@Balaam_ Plenty of games have NPC that stand still waiting for you to come to them.... like alot of games. Including incredibly highly rated ones. The game isn't trying to be a sandbox game like Oblivion/Skyrim.

As for graphical downgrade, much of the time the game is drop dead gorgeous. While I agree, it's at its best while it's less colourful, and I wish it had stuck closer to the original reveal tone as well, it's still a good game.

Hopefully if they do a second one it's set outside the Living Lands and will be less over the top Bioluminesent

@Lysterao I think the fact they are adding NPC animations and interactions shows there was a real problem there that needed fixing.

Many of us noticed it and they are acknowledging it needed to be better.

@SMJ Things like what? One of the Devs all but confirmed Avowed would be coming to PS in a Deepdive. So why would they not put an article up that the game has a roadmap and will release as a more complete edition for anyone who might be intersted.

I notice you don't leave the same sort of replies on PX when they are posting about FF7 a game which is not confirmed, but will likely arrive there one day. Or is it one rule for one..?

It's a very decent game and it's got Garrus Vakarian in it.

Given the developers work on Grounded. They are taking what they’ve learned from that game and using that here… I wouldn’t surprised if all their games going forward has this.

@Balaam_ Have you actually played the game? By the sounds of it you haven't. The game is really good. Perhaps you should be head of Obsidian. Your comment is really obnoxious and unnecessary.

Why does the headline sound like a PS5 port is confirmed when it absolutely hasn't?
Not saying it's not gonna come at some point, just that it's wrong and misleading to state it as fact at this point in time.

I really enjoyed the game on Xbox and would buy it again for PS.

This game was garbage, no wonder it flopped.

Played a bit of Avowed when I got PC Game pass for a month when Oblivion came out. Liked it a lot more than Oblivion gameplay-wise, but the game crashed often. Too often. If it's stable in PS5 I'll pick it up for sure.

@cburg agreed but I was being a teensy bit sarcastic and getting ahead of the curve before the inevitable "plays best on ps5 pro" articles appear..

@Balaam_ I guess you have no interest in this game then? The fact you are here being negative about it tells me that the game obviously resonated with you at some point to instill such disappointment in you.

Avowed is an 8/10 very much enjoyed it and completed it

I'm absolutely certain it will arrive but does it need to be written about until then? There are plenty of other people here that feel the same.

I don't agree with the "stories" on any site that are pure guesswork but I'm not a huge fan of Final Fantasy so didn't bother to comment. I really like Avowed and hope that PlayStation only gamers enjoy it as much as I did.

Games cost too much to develop these days for exclusivity to be a factor. With console sales in decline, and the gaming market for consoles shrinking, there aren't many options open. Neither MS nor Sony can count on expanding the numbers of consoles sold so the options for increasing sales are limited, especially when so much of the console market is given over to one game casuals.

Multi platform releases are an obvious way for both Sony and MS to increase the number of players who might buy their games. Why sell to half the console players when you can sell to all of them?

It felt so lifeless and boring and a massive waste of time. I would have been pissed if I paid for it.

I played this in the middle of playing kcd2 , big mistake, its an empty poorly designed mess, the combat is stiff and unsatisfying,mannequin like npcs , really terrible voice work , the design choice of letting you only destroy certain objects which completely breaks immersion , as does shooting an npc full in the face with a fireball and no reaction whatsoever , its a game from the 90s and it shows , far far superior rpgs to spend your money on , oblivion remastered is better in everyway and that's 20 years old.

I assure you, y'all aren't missing much

PJ O’Reilly at Pure Xbox gave Avowed a 8/10 review.
Starfield got 9/10, from the very same reviewer.

If I had wanted Avowed, I would probably have bought the Xbox version.
The trouble is, do I need another Fantasy RPG? Or do I just replay Dragon Age?
