So funny to see The Last Guardian pop up, because I thought about going for the platinum this week, using a walkthrough for the collectibles. I spent about a half hour trying to get that animal to move near the fifth barrel I needed and deleted the game.
I really loved that game but wow, it’s frustrating.
I enjoyed Digimon Survive well enough. I’m new to turn-based combat having first tried it in Sea of Stars. Turns out I enjoyed it, so I played Jeanne D’Arc and liked it even more. I’ll be looking out for this, but probably not until after I try Clair Obscur.
When I bought a PSVR2 on sale a year ago, I was swayed by VR games coming to PS Plus Premium, and the hope that Firmament would be ported over.
I dropped to Essential two weeks ago, but this news makes my day. Cyan’s been having financial problems recently, so I may make this a rare “Day One” buy.
@__Seraph I don’t see the word “territories” in the article. Has it been edited? It says “hundreds of countries” in the subhead, and “hundreds of locations” in the article. The first is impossible, the second is vague.
It seems like double counting to include a country and each of its territories separately.
Can anyone explain to me how PSN is not available in “hundreds of locations,” given that there are fewer than 200 countries on earth? Are you counting each town in each affected country? Every uninhabited island?
I’m not bringing this up to defend Sony or distract from the topic at hand, but I can never get an answer to this question.
The full retail price of the games PlayStation adds to these services only matters if you were planning to buy them anyway. If you’re not happy with getting it, it doesn’t matter what it costs.
This is good news for me. If the share of PS Plus subscribers on higher tiers is increasing despite price increases and the slow reduction in quality month after month, then PlayStation has no incentive to improve the service.
And I won’t be tempted to second guess my choice to downgrade to Essential.
I played Spiritfarer when it was on Extra last year and it was the most moving game I’ve ever played. When it left the service I had to buy it so I’d always have it and as a thank you to the developers.
I’ll be looking forward to seeing what they do next.I only hope the combat isn’t too difficult for me to get to experience the story. My reaction time is getting ridiculously slow as I age.
Has anyone else had a problem buying Myst? I own it on Vita, so the PS store says that version conflicts with the PS4/5 version. I’m locked out of buying it.
Edit: Now, I can get Myst for free. I don’t know if it took a couple of days to fix it in the system, or if it’s because in the meantime I left PS Plus Premium, but nice that I don’t have to buy it again. I’ll get Riven, though.
It looks like since I own Myst on Vita, I’m not allowed to add the PS4/PS5 version to my library.
Edit: Now, I can get Myst for free. I don’t know if it took a couple of days to fix it in the system, or if it’s because in the meantime I left PS Plus Premium, but nice that I don’t have to buy it again. I’ll get Riven, though.
All these articles citing various statistics reminds me of ‘p-hacking.’ Unethical scientists (or scientists who don’t understand statistical methods) can just dive into collected data and find correspondences that they can announce as “statistically significant,” although they’re nothing of the kind.
Like those results, these announcements are meaningless and should be ignored. If a paid, online multiplayer game fudges its numbers, that’s a problem. The sales of a single player game shouldn’t matter to anyone who isn’t profiting from those sales. If you want to buy it, great. It shouldn’t matter how many other people feel the same way. Ignore the hype and think for yourself.
Assuming—reasonably, I think—that Sony will do nothing to make it easier for us to avoid these games, does anybody have a method for minimizing their impact on your browsing experience?
I sort games by title, because I got used to the PS4 store crashing and I’d at least be able to find where I left off. I think this helps avoid some shovelware just because it’s easy to skip past all the “Jumping” titles, for example.
If anyone has anything better, I’d love to hear it. (I’m terrible at detecting AI art, so what may be obvious to you won’t be to me.)
I tried the last Syberia game while while my PS subscription is still active, and it’s beautiful. The puzzles are a little too easy. And the trophies are bugged to hell. 50/50 chance of actually popping. So I deleted it halfway through.
Surely, everybody could tell anybody what they do or don’t like about the service, without getting angry at each other?
Some people like focusing on one or two games at a time and are satisfied with having enough games to keep them busy, while others who like to play a little bit of a lot of games don’t like the gradual reduction of options and see the service as losing value while the price keeps rising. And then again, maybe the whole idea of a subscription service repels you because you want to maximize the money the developer makes or because you think the model is designed to nudge people into the mindset that games aren’t things you own.
They’re all completely valid opinions. Obviously, only the first one is correct, but I can understand why everyone else is wrong.
@LieutenantFatman Thanks for the warning! Sorry to pester you, but if the games description says it entitles you to download it to your vita is that not enough? Should I visit the store on my Vita before I buy? Or is there a third-party site that lists problems?
I wonder if this is why a couple months ago one of the essential titles was a Digimon game that some sites said had been cross-play on Vita, but after I claimed it I couldn’t find it on my Vita. I’d assumed that those sites were just mistaken.
I subscribed to Premium last year on sale. I did that because they were also heavily discounting PSVR2 and promised they’d be releasing games in that format on that tier.
They did, for a while. Then, slowly stopped. Months went by with no VR. Then one, then nothing. Now they’re removing quite a few of them this month.
To be honest, my PSVR2 is pretty much just gathering dust. I think I want to use it, but it seems I don’t. Just like I think I want to play retro games, but then I don’t.
I cancelled my subscription last month, and if there’s a good sale on Extra I’ll think about it, or just drop down to Essential and finally get to work on my backlog. Unless I don’t.
@RudeAnimat0r I got very envious that your library lends video games, then I checked my local library’s site and so do they! Now, I just have to get there when they’re open to see what they have.
@LieutenantFatman You sparked my interest, so I just checked out PS Deals and I see a lot available for the Vita. I hadn’t thought about buying anything for it in a long time. I think I’ll get back to it soon.
I’m not entirely sure since I didn’t play Twin Breaker on PS5, but I believe the trophy list for the PS5 is significantly harder than for the PS4. Just something to check out if you’re a trophy hunter and don’t want to have a rough time.
I didn’t vote, because I’m effectively all-digital, but not out of any principle. It’s cheaper. Once in a blue moon, I can buy a physical version at a good price, and I always check to see if that’s the case before finishing a digital transaction. But it’s very unusual.
But for people who just want to have a physical copy of their games, I get the outrage. I still buy DVDs and Blu-rays of my favorite shows and movies because I don’t want to figure out which service is streaming them, or find that they’ve been altered and can’t be accessed in the form I grew to love them.
Just a warning to anyone thinking of purchasing this on PS5: there is a game-breaking bug that will make progress impossible at some point deep into your game. The game will tell you it is saving your progress, and will appear to be saving your progress as long as you don’t force close the game or restart your console.
Once you do, or the game crashes, you’ll find out how long it’s been since your game actually saved. For me it was about 15 in-game days lost, multiple permanent upgrades that took planning, luck, and multiple runs to unlock all gone, and some ultra rare trophies lost. Yes, they’re on PSN but you need to have them counted in-game for a chance at the platinum.
Just beware, you can’t see this coming. The only way to prevent it is to turn off cloud backups, save and quit after every run, noting the Day #, exit out and force close the game. Then restart and see if the Day # next to the continue option is one higher. If it is, you can manually back up your save. If it isn’t the bug has struck.
Edit to add that it’s not a matter of replaying those days, that would be bad enough. The game won’t save anything after the last time it made a good save so if the game crashes or the power goes out you’ve wasted your time again. Not worth it.
It was a great game, too.
Second edit: as of May 22, 2025 it appears to be fixed. I’ve tested it, and as far as I can tell, the game is saving now. I lost so much progress I don’t think I want to play it anymore, but don’t let that stop you from trying it.
I didn’t love the first game, didn’t play the second game, and don’t plan to watch the show. I’ve never visited Rotten Tomatoes.
Everyone should feel free to voice their opinions, whether it’s about The Last of Us or Hogwarts Legacy. No political “side” is immune to idiocy. And associating all criticism with the worst elements of the side that you despise is immature, reductive, divisive, and exactly the behavior most people claim to be above.
What’s the matter with the world today? All of us. Hate begets hate. Period.
I find information like this interesting, so I’m looking forward to trying it out.
I’m NOT looking forward to being told how many screenshots I’ve taken in Blue Prince. How am I supposed to know what I’ll need to know later on, or how easy it will be to access? I have to screenshot EVERYTHING or I’ll miss something.
So what I really need are folders in the screenshot page, so I can organize them by room, puzzle, document type, etc.
Oh! And a full text editor so I can add circles and arrows and a paragraph on each one to explain what it is and provide context and hyperlinks to other screenshots.
I’ll be playing it a year or more after launch, when the price drops to something reasonable. However long that is doesn’t matter, since I seem to have been born without the FOMO gene, or maybe it’s just that I’m 2-3 times the age of most gamers.
I had never clicked with a rogue-like game until I became obsessed with Blue Prince. Is this like Blue Prince? It looks a little like Blue Prince. Tell me it’s like Blue Prince and I will buy it!
@KillerBoy On a PlayStation site, I think you have to see the difference between remasters of Until Dawn and Oblivion, and why people would be excited for one and not the other. That shouldn’t blow anyone’s mind.
I haven’t hit the 100 limit yet, but I can’t imagine telling people who have that they are “wishlisting wrong.”
My problem is with the “followed” feature. There are games in there I’ve never heard of. I’m sure I interacted with them in some way, but I just don’t remember them. I try to unfollow games I add from PS Plus if I’m not sure I’m going to play them, but the list isn’t alphabetical or sorted by recently added so it’s tough to find them.
You should be able to click on a followed game and go to the product page to remind yourself what the game is, too.
I wouldn’t have tried Paradise Killer if it hadn’t been included in PS Plus Extra, but ended up really liking it. This is another game that I wouldn’t think I’d enjoy, but the developer has earned some trust. The demo was fun.
Plus, is that Kiryu’s voice actor playing the main character, an ex-Yakuza trying to atone for his past and make the world a better place? I might be sold.
I think a lot of people mishear that PSN is not available in 118 countries, then say it’s not available in 180 countries. Either way, that’s a lot of countries.
But whenever anyone who doesn’t know about the issue hears that, they would have to assume the person is just making up a big number, because they know there are fewer than 200 countries on Earth. So, try to use the correct number so at least your point won’t be ignored.
I won’t, but I’m sure many will. And I’m pretty sure other publishers will misread the situation and hike the prices of their own games. It won’t end well for anyone but Rockstar.
I’ve redeemed about $25-$30 worth of points, so I can’t complain. I claim trophies associated with games I already own to get them marked completed (stupid, but that’s who I am). I don’t really interact with the trophy case because it makes the app crash.
If they give points for playing a game I have access to, I download and start it. When I see the points have been awarded, I quit the game and delete it. Not sure if that’s what Sony was going for.
I’d prefer to have this all be on the console, of course.
It’s only now that I’m reading this article that I see that “second to none” and “next to nothing” are so similar in literal meaning while being near-opposites.
To be honest, playing Infinite Wealth in Japanese was oddly jarring, too. It’s unusual to run into a single American who is fluent in Japanese, but everyone in Hawaii is? Some of the major characters give reasons for their fluency, but that just makes you realize that every lifeguard, taxi driver and hot dog stand operator also speaks it.
It doesn’t matter, play what you want. I just need Kiryu and Majima to sound right.
I played the Judgment games in English, because I didn’t know what the characters were ‘supposed’ to sound like. Ditto for Yakuza: Like a Dragon, but then there were those cameos of characters from the Yakuza games and that was jarring.
Kiryu and Majima must sound like they should. I played the English demo for Infinite Wealth at the end of Gaiden and couldn’t stand the new Kiryu voice, so that was that for the English dub. I like the rest of the English voice actors, so I’ll try English again if classic Yakuza characters aren’t in the game.
I’m just here to point out that the X Community Note misuses the word “refuted.” Refuting something is disproving it. The correct word in this context would be “contradicted.”
This is being called a beta test. Does everyone get to try it, or only people who were invited? Will it be rolled out over a long time period, or all at once? Could it fail the test and be withdrawn?
I ask because remote play doesn’t work at all for me, though my internet speed is in the <200 mb range, and the only reason I’d ever consider a Portal would be for this feature.

@SeaDaVie That helps. I don’t use Steam so I’m not familiar with their systems. I just knew that PSN had to be available in more than 20 countries.
Can a researcher use his or her Steam account from their home country while they’re stationed in Antarctica? If so, is this a problem?

I won’t, but I’m sure many will. And I’m pretty sure other publishers will misread the situation and hike the prices of their own games. It won’t end well for anyone but Rockstar.
Re: Poll: Do You Use PS Stars?
I’ve redeemed about $25-$30 worth of points, so I can’t complain. I claim trophies associated with games I already own to get them marked completed (stupid, but that’s who I am). I don’t really interact with the trophy case because it makes the app crash.
If they give points for playing a game I have access to, I download and start it. When I see the points have been awarded, I quit the game and delete it. Not sure if that’s what Sony was going for.
I’d prefer to have this all be on the console, of course.

Are replacement stick modules still impossible to buy?

Shift Up seem like good eggs.
Re: Game of the Year: Best PSVR2 Game of 2024
It’s only now that I’m reading this article that I see that “second to none” and “next to nothing” are so similar in literal meaning while being near-opposites.
Re: Even in a Wacky Nautical Spin-Off, Yakuza Just Feels Wrong in English
To be honest, playing Infinite Wealth in Japanese was oddly jarring, too. It’s unusual to run into a single American who is fluent in Japanese, but everyone in Hawaii is? Some of the major characters give reasons for their fluency, but that just makes you realize that every lifeguard, taxi driver and hot dog stand operator also speaks it.
It doesn’t matter, play what you want. I just need Kiryu and Majima to sound right.
Re: Even in a Wacky Nautical Spin-Off, Yakuza Just Feels Wrong in English
I played the Judgment games in English, because I didn’t know what the characters were ‘supposed’ to sound like. Ditto for Yakuza: Like a Dragon, but then there were those cameos of characters from the Yakuza games and that was jarring.
Kiryu and Majima must sound like they should. I played the English demo for Infinite Wealth at the end of Gaiden and couldn’t stand the new Kiryu voice, so that was that for the English dub. I like the rest of the English voice actors, so I’ll try English again if classic Yakuza characters aren’t in the game.
Re: Random: Former IGN China Editor Refutes Game Science Crying Claim
I’m just here to point out that the X Community Note misuses the word “refuted.” Refuting something is disproving it. The correct word in this context would be “contradicted.”
That’s it. Carry on.
Re: Hands On: PS Plus Cloud Streaming Is a Game Changer for PS Portal
This is being called a beta test. Does everyone get to try it, or only people who were invited? Will it be rolled out over a long time period, or all at once? Could it fail the test and be withdrawn?
I ask because remote play doesn’t work at all for me, though my internet speed is in the <200 mb range, and the only reason I’d ever consider a Portal would be for this feature.
