Digimon Story Time Stranger Systems

If you're a fan of catching and training a perfect team of Pokémon, then you may be pleased to learn that Digimon Story Time Stranger is adopting some familiar creature-defining mechanics.

In a nutshell, the upcoming Digimon RPG is adding a lot of depth to its progression systems, to a point where it seems like specific builds and stat distributions will be important factors in getting the most out of your digital allies.

"One of the new systems introduced in Time Stranger is Personalities. Each Digimon has one of 16 personality types, which influence stat growth, skill acquisition, and even digivolution conditions," writes lead producer Ryosuke Hara in a very informative PlayStation Blog post.

"For example, a Digimon with a Daring personality will see higher growth in Attack and Defense, making it more suited for physical offense," he continues. It all sounds similar to the natures that you'll find in Pokémon games, which determine the potential growth of different stats.

Fortunately, Hara goes on to confirm that you'll be able to change these personality types later on — so finding your ideal Digimon partner shouldn't be too much of a grind.

Beyond the implementation of personalities, Time Stranger's set to give your main character a more active role in how your Digimon grow. 'Agent Skills' are unlocked as you complete missions throughout the game, and provide various benefits across progression and combat.

"Players earn points that can be used to unlock various effects — such as enhancing Digimon with specific personalities, increasing experience gain, or easing digivolution requirements. These skills allow for even more depth in how you prepare for battles," it's explained.

Hara concludes that these new systems will hopefully help players forge stronger bonds with their 'mons, as each teammate should feel more unique. As previously reported, there are over 450 of the things to collect this time around, so get ready to invest some serious time.
