Re: Latest PS5 Firmware Adds Welcome Hub, Adaptive Controller Charging, Much More

KidRisky

I just updated, and of course I didn’t get the Welcome hub right away.

The activity cards didn’t change either. There’s still a whole long row of activities that I can’t do.

It’s actually worse than that, though. I used to be able to click on the “Continue main story” card for Marvel’s Midnight Suns and skip most of the opening screens and load right into the game. Now it says ‘start game” and it was no different than starting the game the slow way: long unskippable splash screens, auto save warning and photosensitivity alert, then main menu.

They made it worse?

Re: PS Plus Extra's September Cull Has 4 More Great PS5, PS4 Games Added to It, 16 in Total

KidRisky

13 Sentinels was great, and not TOO hard to finish in two weeks. It took me about that long to platinum.(I take a lot longer to play games than most people do. I have to read all the item descriptions.Probably 1/3 of my time was reading those entries!)

I’ve been playing Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and I’m very impressed. It looks like the complete edition goes on sale for <$20, and I think I’ll be buying that so I can take my time with it. It’s too bad it didn’t sell better. I hadn’t tried it because I’d never played a card-based game and didn’t know if I’d like it.

Re: PS5 Gets a Staggering, Officially Licensed 8TB SSD

KidRisky

I have the 2 TB Western Digital and I try to keep it no more than half full.

I used to download everything I wanted to play so I wouldn’t forget because they get lost among the monthly games I don’t want (but still add to my library because I’m afraid I’ll change my mind). Now, I add games to my library then put them in a “to play” folder, and keep about ten of those downloaded at a time.

Re: 12 Major PS5, PS4 Games Leaving PS Plus, Including Horizon Forbidden West

KidRisky

I’ve started using folders to sort games accessed through the upper tiers of PS Plus from those I’ve purchased or got through the essential level, but that’s only helpful going forward. I thought I had Cloudpunk to keep.

Is there any listing of the old PS Plus/new PS Plus Essential monthly games so I won’t be surprised again? As far as I can see, the PlayStation list and Wikipedia both lump all PS Plus tiers together.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Finally the Right Time to Buy PSVR2?

KidRisky

I have one arriving today. I canceled my preorder when I’d moved and couldn’t update my shipping address, and the cooling-off period made me reconsider given the price. This price was too tempting to resist.

I’ve never cared about how many first-party games are produced. If more games come from PlayStation, great. If they come from other sources, great. I’m hoping Riven comes to PSVR2 the way Obduction eventually did.

I’ve downloaded some demos and some free PSVR to PSVR2 upgrades and the PS Plus Premium VR2 offerings and am really looking forward to trying this out!

Re: PS Portal Update 3.0.1 Allows Connection to 5GHz Public WiFi, Here Are the Patch Notes

KidRisky

@Goosepies I haven’t had a good enough experience with remote play on my phone to take a chance on the Portal, and what you’re describing sounds like what happened to me. The audio would stream but the picture would freeze for a couple of seconds.

Turned out, my PS5 wasn’t connecting to the 5 ghz Wi-Fi. Now that I’ve gone into the ps5 settings and fixed that, it happens a lot less often. Still not good enough to spend $200, but since you already have the Portal, maybe check that in your network settings?

Re: PS Stars Finally Coming Back Online in North and South America

KidRisky

I’m in the northeastern US, and had to log out and back in, but it’s up and the points I earned during the outage are there.

The Stars animation when you open the app has gone back to the old one. It had an eye- catching twinkle effect while the service was down. Maybe that animation is only for people who aren’t members to get them to click it, and it didn’t recognize that I was a member while it was down?

Re: Updated PS5 Explore Page Adds New Features, Backgrounds

KidRisky

Looks good, especially since storage space and wishlist are the things I check most often that aren’t already quick to navigate to.

The explorer page is fine, it gives you announcements on games you’ve followed, but also just a lot of ads for PlayStation peripherals. If you don’t have it, you’re not missing much.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Unicorn Overlord?

KidRisky

I didn’t think strategy games were for me, but I played the demo and really enjoyed it. The problem is, I have about four months left on my PS Plus Extra subscription and I’m going to concentrate on the games there so I’d just be buying this to throw on my backlog. I’ll definitely buy it when I’m back to purchasing games a la carte.

Re: PS Plus Extra, Premium Lose Another Seven Games Soon

KidRisky

So, my gaming plans have changed for the month. Just finished Infinite Wealth and won’t be getting that platinum for a while.

Going to try to see if I can finish Ghostwire: Tokyo, Haven, and Tchia in a month. I may spend a couple of hours trying to get the last trophy I need for the platinum for Outer Wilds. I’ve rage-quit and deleted it a couple of times over that.

If anyone hasn’t tried Outer Wilds, don’t let me dissuade you. It’s a unique game that’s well worth trying.

Re: Another Three PS Plus Essential Games Are Yours to Download Now

KidRisky

I don’t own any of these. I will add them all to my library, and I don’t think I will ever think of them again. If that’s not worth a “meh,” what is?

Why does anyone’s lack of interest in this month’s offering provoke anger from others? I’m glad you’re all excited to play these games. Actually, that’s not true—I don’t care that you’re excited. Why do you care that others aren’t?

Re: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Removes New Game +, Puts It Behind a DLC Paywall

KidRisky

I have the standard edition pre-ordered and thought about canceling and then realized that if I don’t have to play NG+ for a trophy, I’m not going to play it anyway. I’ll stick with standard, which I’m sure will be plenty to keep me busy.

I would never buy a premium edition at launch. If standard doesn’t have everything I want, I’ll wait for a sale on the edition I do want.

Re: Game of the Year: Best PS5, PS4 Puzzle Game of 2023

KidRisky

I plan on playing all of these at some point, but so far have beaten Humanity (which was great!) and am playing Chants of Sennaar.

I’m having a hard time getting started in what I think is the final level so I took a break from it, but the quality of the puzzle design is astonishing. I can’t wait for my brain to recharge so I can head back in.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 508

KidRisky

Chants of Sennaar, thanks to Simon Fitzgerald’s recommendation. It’s as brilliant as the demo promised, and well worth $20.

Also started a new playthrough of Sea of Stars, PS4 edition this time to see if I can get another platinum. I was just going to boot it up for a 50 coin reward in PS Stars, but decided to keep going.

They changed the noise you hear when your piece levels up in Wheels! It used to sound like a bell and now it’s a distinctly electronic beep. It’s a clockwork game in a fantasy world, why does it have to beep?

Re: Game of the Year: Simon's Top 5 PS5, PS4 Games of 2023

KidRisky

Played the demo for Chants of Sennaar and it seems brilliant. Will definitely buy it!

This looks like what I hoped Heaven’s Vault would be. I don’t think I’ll ever play that game, since it’s been on my wishlist for years and never gone on sale. $25 seemed steep to me, and now I’m just being stubborn about it.
