Digimon Story Time Stranger was in a playable form at Summer Game Fest earlier this month, and frankly glowing previews for Bandai Namco's upcoming RPG are now starting to appear online.
Yep, early impressions of the game are seriously positive, with various outlets claiming that they simply can't wait to play more. Heck, PC Gamer go as far to say that Time Stranger was the best thing they saw at Geoff Keighley's big event. High praise.
The immediate consensus is that this is a huge step up from previous Digimon Story titles — and Digimon games in general. Indeed, everything we've seen of the release so far would suggest that's the case; Bandai Namco has quite clearly given this project a much bigger budget, as evidenced by a rather dramatic visual evolution.

All of the previews cover a slice of the game that sees players traverse a town inhabited by Digimon. There's apparently an impressive level of detail to the location, and the digital entities themselves are packed with personality.
Combat also played a role in the demo build, with players squaring up against an all-powerful Parrotmon boss. Fights are still turn-based and use the same overall mechanics as past titles, but updated models and animations make a big difference. Again, it sounds like a Digimon Story game with a budget.
PC Gamer
"I don't believe it, but this Digimon RPG really was the best game I saw at SGF. I walked away from Digimon Story: Time Stranger summarily impressed. It didn't matter that I really didn't get a vibe for the actual story. The combat I played was interesting and slightly tough, and the customization, presentation, and overall atmosphere of the digital world completely won me over. When I got home I even checked to see if I had the Cyber Sleuth games on any platforms."
RPG Site
"I left Digimon Story: Time Stranger wanting to play the full game immediately. As I played more of it, I thought about the dozens of hours I’ll probably sink into this game when it launches later this year. One of the weakest aspects of Cyber Sleuth and Hacker’s Memory was the samey looking dungeon environments, and Time Stranger is aiming to be a gigantic improvement in that regard."
RPG Fan
"I’ve heard great things about the Digimon Story series, but unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to check these games out yet. Digimon Story: Time Stranger is making me want to rectify that, as I had a fantastic time with the title during Summer Game Fest."
Noisy Pixel
"After spending 30 minutes playing, it’s clear that if Digimon Story Time Stranger wasn’t on your wishlist before, it should be. This could easily be a new beginning for the Digimon Story series."

If only I really cared for digimon.
I was there when pokemon first appeared and I was there for the trading cards the original 100. I was there for the first games on gameboy.
But when digimon came out, it really didnt click, I tried but it just wasnt the same.
How is game locked to 30 fps even on PS5 Pro, that's my question.
I enjoyed Digimon Survive well enough. I’m new to turn-based combat having first tried it in Sea of Stars. Turns out I enjoyed it, so I played Jeanne D’Arc and liked it even more. I’ll be looking out for this, but probably not until after I try Clair Obscur.
I'm so pumped for Time Stranger! Loved Cyber Sleuth: Hacker's memory and Survive was good too despite it's flaws.
Thank god Bandai-Namco is giving the Digimon team an actual budget this time!
Got this one on my wishlist
So glad to hear this. I've always preferred the Digimon anime to the Pokemon one because of how dark it was. Bunch of kids ripped from their parents and everything they know are thrust into a world that makes no sense where everything wants to kill them. The dynamics between the kids were great. Even saw the movie (which I think was 3 episodes?) in cinemas and it blew my mind
Anyway. Looking forward to this because I really liked Cyber Sleuth, and if everyone's saying this is a significant improvement then I'm about to be blown away
I'm Digi-lighted to hear this
I dont understand why people are so surprised that this game is worth looking forward to 😂
Been a diehard digimon fan since the beginning and consistently kept up with their games since the PS1 games. The only thing that has kept them from being one of the big time gaming franchises imo is lack of advertising and budget. But their quality has been fairly consistent for the past decade or so (Except for Digimon Rumble All-Stars). In fact, Digimon World: Next Order for the PS4 is one of my all-time favorite video games in general.
I just preordered it.
I already made my digital pre order the amount of quality games between july and October is f.... crazy i love it
Digimon deserves way more love than pokemon I don't care how much money pokemon does in comparison with digi but look at the new pokemon game that thing looks so bad unfortunately the fans will eat that up thats the reason we got trash pokemon games nowadays i rather have a more niche series like digi but in the end we have good anime/games than super famous and get the same game almost every year
@redapt as much as I really want to dive into this one, this and Bandai Namcos outrageous pricing model are why I’ll probably never touch it. I didn’t play sparking zero either, because I’m not paying 200 cad for the complete game (dlc and stuff). Even the sale still saw it nearly 150 bucks. It’s sad but this company is outdoing Ubisoft in the greed department.
I loved Cyber Sleuth and even Code Vein, but with their business model over the last couple of years I’m comfortable to leave it be.
Even Switch 2 games can be 60 fps, how is this not? Shame, I quite like Digimon. Back to Pokemon then (in 60fps)
This would be amazing news if this game was coming out the day after Ghost of Yotei 😒.
Still, I'm very excited to play this eventually!
I will definitely buy and play this. Can't wait.
