Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 604

I finally broke down (pun most definitely intended!) & bought Broken Roads. I'm very early in (less than 10 hours), but it's much more text heavy than I thought it'd be - which, for me, is fantastic!! I'm really enjoying it - already stopped & went back a couple hours to redo a section I wasn't pleased with my initial choices. 👍đŸŊ 😸

Re: Massive Atlus Survey Mentions Metaphor Sequel, Yet More Persona Spin-Offs

JbumiSandra

I said "no" to having a Warriors-like game (just not for me). In the comments at the end I explained that I'd outgrown the high school setting of Persona (I could not get into 5's story), but that they should stay the course with the series because there'll never be a shortage of high schoolers! I then went on to say how Metaphor is now one of my all-time favorite games & that they should continue to have a series with a focus beyond high schoolers.

100 hours in, less than a third of the way done & I'm having a ball with Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon! I'm not a Souls gameplay fan (they're just not for me), but enjoy the Scrolls/Piranha Bytes/Ascaron type of APRG - which this is!! It's been my experience that the bugs are not nearly as bad as many reviews make out. I've only used "unstuck" once. The game seems to crash while walking, but 99% of the time it only happens right after saving so it takes less than a minute to get back to where you were. If you're big on side quests & roaming around, I think you'll find a lot to enjoy!!

I do enjoy my turn-based RPGs. My enjoyment of ARPGs is more narrow - not into the Souls genre. All that said, I'm having a ball with Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon! It reminds me of a mix of my favorite ARPGs - some Dragon Age & Scrolls mixed with a healthy dose of Piranha Bytes (Gothic jumps to mind). It can be played in either first or third person. If this sounds up your alley, I highly recommend it!! Quick FYI - there is a demo out, but it does't offer the third person perspective.

Nothing new out that's grabbed me so I'm replaying Dragon Age: Inquisition. First time since its release - just like books, I enjoy replaying/rereading after a decade or so to see how my perception's changed. I'm about 85 hours in this replay, & according to my PS5, that makes it over 500 played hours in total!!

Finished DQIII - what a ton of fun it was!! Am very much looking forward to the release of the I & II combo pack now (is it out yet?!)! Nothing out this second that's on sale or caught my attention at full price. I am curious about Centum - looks interesting; will check out the reviews (it releases Mar. 11). Wishing everyone a super weekend!! 😸

I'm a bit over 30 hours into DQIII now. Boy, is this game a ton of fun!! What wasn't fun was my controller ceasing to hold a charge. It was working fine when I finished Metaphor. But when I started DQIII, I could only play for about 2 1/2 hours before the console said my controller's out of juice. What surprised me about this is that the controller is only about 2 1/2 years old. Hope the new one I picked up lasts longer!!

Started Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake Sunday. What a ton of fun this game is!!! I started my gaming life on PS1 & have only owned Sony's systems. So this is my first play-through of it. I don't understand how this wasn't nominated all over the place for remake of the year - they did a beautiful job!! I'm only 18 hours in - will give follow-up comments in a few weeks.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 563

130 saved hours later, I finished Metaphor yesterday. Imo, it was a perfect ending to a damn-near perfect game. I consider it Atlus' best game thus far. 👏đŸŧ

Knowing I was nearing the end, I ordered Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake on Amazon. What's going on with Amazon?! Back in October I ordered a keyboard & it took them a month to ship it. Now the site's saying the same thing for this order. I understand that since I don't have Prime & use the free shipping option, they're going to intentionally delay sending it out, but in the 20 years I've been using them, it was normally a week, week & a half delay (which I'm fine with) - this month or better BS is just that. SMH.

Re: Game of the Year: Best PS5 Indie Game of 2024

JbumiSandra

Not only is it my Indie GOTY, it's my overall #2 (Metaphor being my personal GOTY) - Capes. It's not the greatest story of all time, but it's a solid story. The characters are excellent; the gameplay is inventive - tactical with gameplay based on these characters' unique abilities; the voice acting (across the board) rivals any AAA game. I cannot recommend this game highly enough! đŸ˜ģ

Re: Poll: What Are Your Gaming Plans for the Holidays?

JbumiSandra

Hopefully traveling tomorrow for the holidays (🤞đŸŊ - it's weather-dependent). That'll mean no time for gaming!! Metaphor will wait for me (about 90 hours in; just defeated Sogne), but while I'll be loving visiting, a small part of me will be missing Euchronia!!

Wishing all a lovely rest of the year & a fantastic '25!

Re: PEGI Won't Budge on Balatro's Ridiculously Bloated European Age Rating

JbumiSandra

PEGI argues that it deserves the 18 because it teaches how to play poker hands, knowledge which could be "transferred to a real-life game of poker". đŸ¤ĻđŸŊ‍♀ī¸ By this argument, 99% of ALL games should be rated 18. Mario teaches kids how to effectively jump on people's heads. Any game with weapons teaches kids how to harm others. Pac Man teaches that biting's ok. And we here in the US thought the ESRB was bad! đŸ¤Ē

Finished Capes this morning. I really enjoyed it. Being the Queen of Save Scummers, I usually don't like games with only one save slot, but I was ok with it here. I enjoy both linear & open world games so the very linearity of this didn't bother me at all. I'm not a graphics whore so the B graphics didn't irk me in the least. The gameplay was a ton of fun - if you're big into tactical games & want something different than your usual mage, fighter, rogue, et al, this game provides that in spades. Each character has their own abilities, & it really is "easy learn, hard to master" so you're always engaged! I liked the story/writing, but have one question about the end I wish I could ask the writers about (no spoilers). The voice acting is excellent - I've played AAA games where it wasn't this good!! All in all, it's the best game released this year that I've played! 👍đŸŧ For the record, it's only the 3rd game released this year I've played. If I was to put them in order of enjoyment, it'd be: 1. Capes 2. Solasta: Crown of the Magister 3. Sea of Stars
