If you're into old-school, traditionally designed RPGs, then you've got to take a look at Lair of Leviathan.

This turn-based, pixelated adventure is heading to PS5 and PS4 at some point in 2027, and its goal is to bring back that classic sense of being on a proper journey through a fantastical world.

"RPGs have lost their identity over the last decades," write joint developers Nostalgic Realms and Whiskeybarrel Studios.

"Once, they were about exploring and writing your own adventure [...] Game maps that beckon you to forge your own path rather than a task list of quest markers," they continue.

"That’s what Lair of the Leviathan is all about. We’re hoping to bring back what was great about RPGs. That intangible magic that somehow got lost along the way."

The devs are certainly saying all the right things, and the game itself looks the part. There's every chance that this could be a cracker of an RPG, especially if it delivers on its promises of open-ended gameplay.
