Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 647

Just a load of old favourites for me at the moment - in particular Shadow of Mordor, Legacy of the Dark Knight, and BioShock which should get me nicely in the mood for when Valor Mortis comes out 🙂

After 100+ hours I finally got the Platinum for Wildlands 💪. I bought the DLC so want to try that over the weekend but going to watch the football results come in with my dad plus a few beers so I think it’ll just be the Switch this weekend.

Brotato and Clover Pit are taking up a lot of my time (albeit frustrating 😂)

Trying to get into Dying light 2 but it doesn’t click with me like the 1st. It reminds me a lot of a Farcry game but with zombies. Still tense running around at night though 😱.

Kirby's Dream Land (GB) - Made it to the 3rd stage so far. I imagine my daughter and I will finish this up soon enough.

Dragon Warrior (NES) - Made it into Garin's Grave, and by god are the enemies raking me over the coals in here!

Angry Birds Stella (Windows Phone) - Still making slow but steady progress in this as well.

More Sniper Elite 5 as I work my way through the campaign and maybe do a few invasions on Sniper Elite Resistance (the maps are better suited for it)

Finished and Platinum achieved for Legacy of Dark Knight. Looking to wrap up a quick playthrough of Onimusha Warlord as well.

Otherwise, now and for the foreseeable future it is all about Mortal Shell. I assume that will keep my busy until Onimusha Way of the Sword or DawnWalker drops.

If time I’ll continue some racing in Screamer as a palette cleanser.

I‘ve played other Soulsborne games, but this is really tough. Obviously I am not skilled enough. Bosses take long to get killed, even when using parries and Mikiri counters, but they can kill me when I make one or two mistakes. Annoying, and I think about stopping playing it.

I have got back into my PS3 console. So will be playing some good old classics like Fallout: New Vegas, War In the North, WET, & Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Just don't know which to prioritise first! Happy Gaming All

Just completed Halo Campaign Evolved on Pro - a couple of minor quibbles but it’s an excellent remake & better still since this week’s patch.

Started TLOU pt2 - long overdue (!) - looks phenomenal and I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve played so far.

So, since last week I've only played one game:

The Adventures of Elliot - which I late last night finished and got the "true" ending for and with it the platinum. It was a great game, I really enjoyed it! It also has a story where you really want to go for the true end and the first one you can get doesnt conclude anything really. Also loved the exploration, finding secrets and all that. Gave me flashbacks go old Zelda games 🙂 Even the combat stayed good enought all the way through! And thanks to Fallout2 for the tip on the setting to reduce the repetetive lines from followers in the game 🙂

Never played Judgment but Sleeping Dogs is brilliant. Cracking combat, great action game. There’s even a Road Runner Records radio station which is highly recommended if you like heavy metal 🤘. It can get a little repetitive with some of the fighting but once you level up your skills you’ll have a blast.

It’s a Mortal Shell 2 kinda weekend. Loving it so far, definitely the surprise release of the year so far! 😀

@Fiendish-Beaver After breezing through the tutorial section, I was getting the living daylights kicked out of me yesterday, I think I wondered off in the wrong direction 😄. The beginning is always the hardest part of these games. We shall get our revenge soon! Haha

During the week I tried out Remnant From the Ashes on steamdeck, it´s OK but will buy this on ps5 later. On ps5 I started Kena Bridge of Spirits and it´s really charming game so I´ll continue playing that.

I have been using chatgpt to mould the 35 game list based on my reviews of other games I have played as my backlog & wish-list is massive and daunting It has been a deep and intense conversation. Sleeping Dogs and Judgment came up as recommended buys because of the current sale price combined with my review algorithm. I have purchased both. And Sleeping Dogs has been bumped up as next to play after FF7 and Spidey 2. Looking forward to it!

Helldivers 2 coming to ps+ extra has been tempting me to play it, so naturally, I re-downloaded helldivers 1 instead and got back into that after the best part of a decade. on the platinum hunt for that before I get into 2.

My trusty LG soundbar which I've had since forever died on me late Thursday evening so I went out yesterday morning and bought the Hisense AX5100Q 5.1 surround soundbar (dolby dtsx and dolby atmos) and it sounds fantastic..that wireless sub woofer kicks ass. So I'm playing helldivers 2 and ghost recon wildlands with the usual rally challenges thrown into the mix. Have a great weekend folks 👍

Alan Wake 2! Outstanding game

Still cleaning the remaining content of Assassin's Creed Shadows" . Also, completed chapter 5 of *Yakuza: Like a Dragon. The game only expands and engages the player more and more. Very good installment in the franchise.

Also playing Alan Wake II. Quite crazy game, never know that to expect. oh, and God of War: Sons of Sparta. This one carries more content than I expected. Lots of things to do!!

@Rangers420 I loved the main quest for Legacy, but you’re right in I still walked away disappointed. After getting the platinum I can say the story was the highlight; most of the collectibles wound up a spiteful experience. I would do the Waylon Jones side quest though, that was on the better side.

Just waiting for Two Point Museum as I know I’m going to be spending a lot of time on that so not getting too deep into anything else.

Instead I’m watching Invincible from start to end! Just on S3.

@Fiendish-Beaver a lot of one shotting can happen early on. I’m still early but it helps to upgrade weapons and shells I think more than Harbinger. I found a giant ace that starts at +4 and I’m hoping I can spin to win. Especially because the amount of gloom required quickly becomes insane for Harbinger upgrades.

Finishing Resident Evil 4 Remake's Separate Ways DLC in a wee bit before moving onto Resident Evil Revelations (PC). I absolutely loved the RE4 Remake and I'll probably come back to get the Platinum at some point. Reworked Ashley is such a lovely character compared to how grating she was in the original.

I'll probably also be playing some Destiny 2 with the guys if we can wrangle everyone together.

@old_gamer74 I played both already, Sleeping Dog years ago, and Judgement recently. Both are amazing games, with solid combat and incredible stories.

Sleeping Dogs is cinematic like a John Woo movie, have good vehicle driving, and Hong Kong is a very singular place to explore.

Judgement is a more investigative game, as our character is a private investigator. The setting is Kamurocho, as it is a Yakuza canonical spin-off. If you played a game in the franchise you know the drill, lots of side content, humor and drama. I enjoyed it a lot.

My recommendation is, play both games. 2 strong crime dramas.

It's a busy weekend (F1) so I'm letting most of my games play themselves. Palworld is chugging along on one machine, my Pals are still farming, crafting and enjoying life. My real focus right now is something else. I tried Two Point Museum when it originally launched and never took to it, so it went off to live on the shelf. Like a lot of games when I see them pop-up on Plus+ I'm reminded to go back and see if there's been any updates or changes. I'd already played the Two Point series and at the time Hospital was my favorite, the pacing was different, the mechanics too. Campus almost bored me to tears and put me to sleep, the concept was good but the execution wasn't.

Having returned to The Museum I can share some observations. I do think Two Point is a great series but each game is so different than the last and it feels like the kind of game that people may have been pondering but never committed to. The first thing I'll say is that the sense of urgency is gone, they definitely overhauled the maintenance system meaning utilities and technology aren't frequently breaking down and halting progress, staff management has been streamlined and is a lot more forgiving, the A.I. pathing is better and Museum provides one/way gates too so you can funnel your guests through the building with ease. Money has been overhauled too, guests buy entry tickets but the majority of money comes from donations which are so frequent that I keep having to hire extra security guards just to collect it all. Another new system is Exhibitions. Staff and experts go on out into the field to discover new fossils/Dinos/etc and it's fast.

The exhibits themselves are a lot of fun and very varied. They can be named too so I've got a RavixSaurusRekts and I called the hairy thing Bozzer (in honor of the man himself) The tutorial starts you off with prehistoric fossils/Dinos and as you learn the ropes the game sends you off to the next location to learn how to work with aquariums/catch fish and other aquatic adventures.

That's where I am now. I'm redoing my entire Museum and applying better pathing, tours and using my Rimworld kill-box techniques to weaponize consumerism. The idea is simple enough, I'm funneling my guests through a careful maze-like layout where instead of having turrets at each choke-point it will be gift-stores, coffee, vending machines, and anything else that can rinse their pockets before they reach the exit. I let the game play itself when I was out last-night and returned to four-million+ in profit so it's definitely working.

It's the only Two Point game that I've been able to make work on auto (without chaos/bankruptcy) It's just a really fun game to play around with, sit-back and plan/design, and really drink in the scenery, the Developers did a great job with this one. The colours pop, the textures and reflections have real depth, the NPC animations are great, the announcer is actually entertaining, the whole vibe is brilliant.

Oh and a free Cult of the Lamb update dropped yesterday too so it's a great time to try it on Plus+ if you are even the least bit curious. Happy gaming weekend Folks 🦖

Finishing off Halo which has been a blast, then some Vampire Survivors before the black out, just gonna chug along with VS until Wolverine although my physical copy of JDM arrived so might give that a whirl.
Plus the premier league is back although 1st match is away against a newly promoted club and a 12:30 kick off is fraught with danger!!!!

I’m playing Mortal Shell 2 on Xbox. The first couple of hours can be absolutely brutal, especially if you go to the more difficult areas unintentionally as I did. However, once you can get past that initial hump, the game is awesome. It’s up there with Lies of P for me.

Chipping away at Atomic Heart. Lots of potential but also a very frustrating gsme.

Steins;Gate RE:BOOT as soon as I've had lunch. Bought the JP version (includes English text) since I refuse to wait two extra months for absolutely no reason.

Steins;Gate is one of my favorite stories ever so I'm looking forward to experiencing it all over again with a new coat of paint and new story content.

I’m on the verge of Black Flag Resynced platinum so I’m trying to decide what to do next. It’s a toss up between Bloodborne/ Nioh/ or wait for MGS4 cannot decide

Gonna be working on wrapping up The Sinking City 2. I think I’m getting pretty close to the end and have thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. It’s unabashedly a budget RE2 Remake clone, but that works great for me. The story is a bit all over the place, but there are some great “wtf?” moments. It’s a 10/10 “7/10” game.

With the slow realisation that I’m back in work on Monday, I have dipped my toes into another JRPG. Fantasia Neo dimension - it’s not bad, but not exactly setting the world alight. I’m also debating getting the new Sinking city 2 - after loving the first, but seeing some of the enemies has made me release that I’m a coward with horror. 😂😂😂

@Onearmbandit Congrats it's a fun and straightforward enough platinum (for an Ubisoft game) I took a break after pushing Tiers hard, for a fourth playthrough it was fine, even with A.I. this time. I do think humans add to the experiences but the A.I. didn't take away from it either. Good call on the DLC too, I think Fallen Ghosts was my favorite but Narco Road was good too, especially if you like Mad Max. Fallen Ghosts is a lot harder, not unfair, but you'll feel the difference.

@Link41x I saw you mention that game last weekend, I think you mentioned your daughter too. That's the first Gameboy game I tried and hearing you mention it unlocked a really happy memory.

@old_gamer74 I played Sleeping Dogs, Streets of L.A and Streets of New York. Sleeping Dogs felt a lot more like early John Woo (in a really good way) the driving was so/so but the story was great and the combat too. The other two felt more Western, in not just their setting but in how they played. I Liked Streets of L.A. but New York felt too drab and a little too wooden. Those first two offered more freedom in good/bad like InFamous but if I'm remembering Sleeping Dogs correctly, it forced the choice, as part of the story. I'm mentioning the other two games because they are directly related and I played all three back to back. Onearmbandit already mentioned RoadRunner, that definitely was another part of why I liked the game.

@Ravix I hope you remembered to accept the order this time, before trekking half way across the map with the delivery, and then having to go all the way back to base (sorry it's still funny)

@FinneasGH Just a heads-up, the tutorial will ask you (eventually) to assign a janitor to the Work Station, it sounds like they mean train one. They mean hire one with the skill and they don't explain it well. In the hire screen look for a hammer icon and hire that one. Also holding down the touchpad lets you place items more freely and avoid collision better. The rest is straightforward enough. Oh and be ready to rebuild your first location, or if it's a room like a bathroom/store just highlight it and use the hand tool to move it. Make sure to inspect your exhibits too, tapping R1 will show you their Buzz Bonus and Buzz is really important, it affects how much of a donation you'll receive.

Another thing they don't explain well are frozen exhibits. Once thawed they are useless so using more than one freezer is a good method to ensure they don't melt. If they do you can replace them through Expeditions. I kept replacing the freezers and waiting for the exhibit to freeze again, they never did. Either way it's worth running the same Expedition a few times, the loot comes in different qualities, once I find a pristine one I sell the others.

Some symphony of the night romhacks, Spyro enter the dragonfly, a few Megaman fangames and practicing street fighter 2. I’m a claw main.

Mortal Shell II here. Found my shell and weapon of choice, cleared 3 of the corrupted gates and lots of dungeons. I suck at souls likes but this one is working for me. Probably because there is no stamina meter. That’s what always gets me.

Really enjoying Mortal Shell 2 and I’m at about the halfway point. Just fully unlocked access to all of Tiel’s abilities. Excited for this weekend’s patch that will increase gold drops as right now they are way too low. Heard the end game is a bit of a let down which I often find to be true in souls games but we shall see everything so far has been great.

@GirlVersusGame oh, but I didn't forget, it was Sam who forgot 👀 I read the quest, I planned the route, I printed the PCC, and I made Sam make the journey, I built the watchtower and cleared out the base. Sam then felt the need for validation and so had to go back and specifically trigger the game he is stuck inside to tell him to do that with a specific starting animation before setting out travelling, for whatever reason. I think he maybe has a type of OCD and is clearly an attention seeker. He's definitely in it for the likes, i'll say that much 😁👍

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance on PS5 and Tales of Xillia on PS3. I picked up Redshirts by John Scalzi at the airport last week on our way home, and it's been a treat, so I imagine that I'll be finishing reading that as well.

I'll need to get some yard work done, but there's a fine line between the grass being dry enough to mow and the temperature being way too hot. I'm looking forward to getting temps back under 100F so that I can enjoy myself outside again. I have two ATVs that I'd like to get back up and running, but it's just so dang hot.

@old_gamer74 'used to like John Woo' is like someone saying they used to like Metal but I know what you mean. Once he headed West he sort of toned it down and the characters lost a lot of depth and humanity. I did like Hard Target, mostly for Lance Henriksen. Jazz went out the window too but Broken Arrow did have a great score. I think overall I just prefer Chow Yun-Fat. We were talking about Woo recently in the Movie Thread, Hard Boiled probably got a 4K or Furious was getting ready to watch the Tomorrow series and I probably whipped out the original VHS series. I tend to reach for those before a 4K. Perhaps that's why I like this game, it's about preserving history.

If museums are your thing then you'll absolutely like that game. It's a really relaxing game, I don't play many narrative driven games, there's a language barrier and games like this are easy to pick up/go somewhere/come back and fall into that flow pretty easily. It took me weeks to finish Yakuza Infinite Wealth, by the time platinum popped I'd covered eight countries and six time-zones, I think the Seasons changed too, I'm never touching that series again. It was really well written, the characters were brilliant, but far too long. Someone else just finished it and they said pretty much the same thing.

@GirlVersusGame haha fair point re "used to" but but you hit the nail on the head it was his older movies with CYF that i prefer. Better Tomorrow probably my favourite.

My only concern with Two Point is enjoying it more than a "palate cleanser" that it puts the kibosh on the 35 game target!!

Ghost Recon Wildlands I’ve got right back into this since the recent 4K/60fps patch, and I’m loving it! There’s nothing more satisfying than using “sync shot” with your AI teammates, and taking out 4 enemies simultaneously 😂
On Switch 2 I’m playing Super Mario Galaxy. I never had the Nintendo Wii so the galaxy games completely passed me by. I just bought the Galaxy 1& 2 bundle so am playing them for the first time. Needless to say, I’m having a blast.

@old_gamer74 Time-wise, I finished playing at four in the AM yesterday or the day before, I had jumped time-zones too but it was definitely a rare case of pumping extra hours into the night and it was the first game that's made me do that since (checks) Satisfactory and the console release was seven months ago now.

That game recently had a console update too but unless you want to be called even-Older Gamer then avoid it because it will steal hundreds if not thousands of hours of your time. Also funny coincidence you are a little younger than my Partner and he rarely takes any notice of my games but with this one he did, it could be the theme, he likes collecting old things and our home is kind of a museum so that's probably part of it. You had the seventy-four so I had to run some numbers, that was my hopefully un-offense conclusion. I called someone on here yesterday middle aged and he wasn't too happy about it I don't think. I meant it as a compliment.

@GirlVersusGame hahaha no you are correct!! Work got in the way of gaming for a while but the last 2 years I have put myself in a privileged position so am now a very happy Old (ish) Gamer, unpaid Uber driver to my daughter and horse poo shoveller 🤣 And absolutely loving it 👌

@GirlVersusGame yeah Narco Road wasn’t great what I played but I will definitely enjoy Fallen Ghosts as was more up my street.

I’m working my way through Cult of the Lamb Woolhaven mostly. What a masterpiece of a game. I’m also playing KH, I guess now that KH4 seems like it’s actually going to release I’ll replay what I’ve played and catchup on what I haven’t. Lastly, my son and I have been playing Halo together. He organically found his first skull last night, I’m so proud. 🥹

For the first time in ages I have more games than I know what to do with. I’m currently playing the COD Modern Warfare 4 Beta and really enjoying it. It’s very grounded and a lot of fun to play. The graphics are excellent and the gunplay is absolutely top notch and incredibly responsive.
Beyond that, I’m still working my way to 100% completion on the trophy stack for Days Gone. I just have 6 challenges left to get gold on and that will wrap it up but they’re not as easy as I’d maybe hoped. Some aren’t so bad but some have been BRUTAL.
Once I’m done with Days Gone I’ll be able to move on to a game I’ve really been looking forward to that arrived yesterday (physical copy, baby! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽); Mortal Shell 2! I loved the first game and thoroughly enjoyed the demo for this one but I don’t like playing multiple games at once as it confuses the control scheme for me and I like to stay focused in one story / world at a time.
And, as usual, I’ll be doing the daily challenges in COD BO7 for a few minutes and moving on.

Pal world and Vietnam still enjoying both immensely. Bought Gallipoli but it's pretty bad, not enough people turn crossplay with PC off so you are kinda forced to play with PC or bots 😞 can't effectively compete with PC especially in this game. You are lucky if it runs at 30fps on console so PC have a massive advantage, it's the same on Empulse, even though Empulse is smooth on console the insane speed of the game suits PC. Worst thing to come to FPS on console is crossplay with PC, two decent games ruined.

Nothing as I'm boycotting Sony this week.
But I got three old office Dell to tinker with, old as Core 2 Duo old.

Its gonna be a fun weekend, one will probably become a OPNSense firewall, one will become a media server and the other idk, maybe I'll gift my dad.

GR Wildlands. I think this is my fourth playthrough overall and it's still so enjoyable. One of Ubisoft's best.

@GirlVersusGame I play on the "OG" Game Boy Pocket. She plays on the SNES via the Super Game Boy. But it is still fun to share the game with her.

@Link41x Mine was on the original model. Someone who I knew, passed too early. They weren't a gamer but like a lot of people they'd dabbled, when it came to their parents asking if I wanted anything of theirs I said the Gameboy. I already had one but I wanted that one in particular. There were only three games, I already had two of them (Mario/Tetris) not Kirby. It took about two-years for me to finally turn their Gameboy on on, Kirby was the game I picked.

Your comment last weekend reminded me of that, so did building the Lego Gameboy. Doing both was to me a kind of achievement, your comment reminded me of that, and of them. When people talk about physical going away I think that games that get handed down will go away too and having that one part of that person was something really special. That's why I said it was a happy memory. I look it as I never got to share my hobby with them when they were here, now I can and with their help too.

Isn't everyone supposed to be boycotting Playstation by not playing anything over this coming week? 😉

Anyway, I'm playing Mortal Shell 2. It's been a lot of fun so far! (physical copy only cost £35 too, which is a bargain!).

Skull and Bones started a new season. Oh dear. Looks like 350 hours might become 400.

@old_gamer74 I played sleeping dogs a really long time ago. I might’ve been PS3 or PS4. I can’t remember at this point; awesome , fantastic fun game. I see it on sale on my PlayStation app, but did i heard it does not work properly for the PS5. I’m sad cause I don’t have the old systems anymore. Highly recommend it!

After many false starts, I'm tackling the AC series starting with the first entry. I keep jumping away from walls and plummeting to my death but I'll get there.

Also playing Spider-Man Remastered on PS5 as my chill side game.

Played quite a bit of the excellent turn based deck builder Death Howl (I think I’m roughly 60% through the map). Recently beat one boss who split upon being hit and each part had the full strength and half the hit points of the original and split again when hit and exploded upon their hit points zeroing out (damaging/destroying other nearby copies as well as the heroine).

I had fought my way up to that boss uses a deck which allowed for lots of small strikes. I’m sure the boss could be beaten that way (I came very close by triggering a chain of exploding clones) but I ultimately won by changing my approach/deck and just hitting the boss and it’s resulting small group of clones really, really hard a few times. Good stuff.

I also have been playing Helldivers 2, Lumines Arise, Gran Turismo 7 and Marvel Tokon . I expect next weekend will be dominated by Star Wars Zero Company.

@old_gamer74 How is your gaming journey this weekend progressing? Two Point is getting really good, I unlocked a machine that lets you analyze extra exhibits (doubles) then break them down into awards/perks/new unlocks. It's a game changer.

Also heads-up when you get a task to do a tour of some Dinosaur bones, don't put anything but those three Dinosaurs on those stops (complete and pristine if you can) If you go above three it lowers the tour rating and soft-locks progression. My rating wouldn't move until I did it that way, then it unlocks the plot nextdoor too. It's starting to look and flow much better. And starting to resemble a maze too, which it needs to be, I tore most of it down and rebuilt. It's all flowing so much better, the A.I. isn't lingering and staff have their own side-doors/etc to quickly reach key areas. Aquariums are going in too. I think you'll really enjoy the game once you get to it.

@old_gamer74 Sure thing the weekend is wrapping up in this part of the world so I figured I'd let you know before the thread was hard to find again.

Decided to grab Spy Hunter for the Vita, along with Galaga Legion DX Soldner X 1 and 2 as the final games for my ps3 and vita. Also got La Pucelle Tactics ps2 classic to finish my classic collection.

@rusty82 Duskfade just got on my radar recently, looks really good from footage, how is the story/character interactions?

playing fire emblem three houses to be ready for when i play fortunes weave next month. But took a break today to play cod mw4 beta. All those support scenes can take a while to watch if you recruited most of all the students on your first play through. I only played black eagles route when it first came out but i dont remember anything hence my replay value is worth a lot. Wish 3H got the sw2 upgrade treatment cause 4K60fps would be good right about now.

@old_gamer74 I played about an hour or two of it and it’s so much fun the countering system is easy to understand and learn. There’s a bunch of things to do before you do story missions and they make it understandable with the yellow icons which are like face missions. They have a bunch of cop stuff and they have a bunch of ways to earn different points and upgrades, depending on how you fight and what kind of clothes you wear. For once clothes actually matter, cause they change your stats, which is also cool. I also heard that whatever you wear affects the cut scenes except there’s certain ones where it doesn’t pre determined outfit, which is also interesting. It’s a good pallet cleanser between my RPGs 😀.

@Bramble I would say that it's more story focused than most platform games but it's still nothing to write home about.

The gameplay and art style are excellent for a small studio
