Well my PS5 Pro does feel like the best console they made, hardware wise. The PS1 and PS2 were great though, nice and simple consoles from a far more simple time and seem to run forever. The PS3 was a different story, not all that reliable, early consoles were kind of loud, but the early 60GB models at least had backwards compatibility. PS4 was probably one of my least favorite consoles. No backwards compatibility, the early consoles were very loud, high maintenance (never known a console to have the sort of dust problems it had), unreliable touch buttons, I mean the early consoles really had a lot going against them. PS5 felt like such a better design, quiet, easy to maintain, PS4 backwards compatibility with some games being enhanced, and the Pro simply makes it a powerhouse for this generation that performs great.
Wouldn't be surprised if the PS5 Pro is the last home console I will have, and my ultimate home console for many years to come. I can't see a need for enhancing PS5 games over what the Pro is capable of and games are just so slow to release and I am tired of needing a subscription for basic online services. Gaming PC seems to be the way I will go eventually when this phases out.
Maybe they'll get them to go back to making EA Big games like SSX, NBA Streets, and Def Jam Vendetta. Maybe they could bring back stuff like Command and Conquer and Road Rash while they're at it. I miss the old pre-PS3/360 era EA, they made such great games.
Kojima feels like one of those modern artists where they make something I simply find unappealing only for their fans to show up going on about how incredible and deep it is.
I like it as the ultimate console this gen and ultimate PS5 for me to setup to also double as an ultimate PS4 with a high speed external SSD. I have no real interest in staying with home consoles next gen so this feels like the perfect "last one" for the remainder of this gen and something to go back to in the future.
It's not like games need to be officially PS5 Pro enhanced to benefit from it either. Any game that lets you play it with an unlocked frame rate can benefit greatly. Some games I have looked rough on the standard PS5 only to run super smoothly on the Pro despite not being officially enhanced.
I always call stuff like this "streamer games." Games meant for meme material and to get people watching some streamers usually to watch them try to play the absurd game that is terribly hard and tedious to get through.
I played a few of these in the past but now I just consider it something to maybe watch my favorite streamer play one time. As actual games I think these are very one n done, like you might try to get through it as a challenge but it's never going to be a go-to game.
I like Flight Sim 2020 a lot more, it's actually designed to run well offline, unlike this which is basically a live services game that needs to largely stream off the internet.
@Faultandfracture Yeah it's not like it's a particularly demanding game, but for some reason it just seems to be very poorly optimized on PS5. I have a PS5 Pro which can play far more sophisticated games smoothly and this game looks like it runs at 30 frames with frequent drops. A shame because it's a pretty cool concept.
Just give us some accessibility difficulty options. That way the hardcore crowd can make it as difficult as they like and people who want something easier can make it easier. Everyone is happy.
No way lol. I grew up with a SNES and Sega Genesis as my first console, and my parents decided to get me Sega Channel for my Genesis as opposed to buying games for it. I loved that decision, and that was my only real game console until Sega shut down the service (the SNES was my sister's console and all I played on it was Super Mario World).
After Sega Channel went away my parents let me get a new console for my next birthday, and I went with a Sony Playstation as the Saturn was already on it's way out by that time and I just found the Playstation to be more appealing than the N64, especially since I grew up being a Sega gamer as opposed to a Nintendo gamer. I think the dual shock controller was a new thing back when I finally got one, as I remember my console being the dual shock edition which came with the updated controller and I think the console had a few revisions over the original by then as well. I still got that somewhere, it's amazing how reliable that thing has been over the years. I also remember how incredible it was to me at the time, the games for it just blew me away and I was subscribed to the official magazine for the demo discs that came monthly. That was back when I would go out to Funcoland every month to spend my allowance money I saved up on a new/used game. Good times.
@Propaperpusher Yeah I think my PS5 Pro will probably be the last home console I really bother with to be honest. I have been telling myself whenever my PS5 Pro is outdated, that is when I will buy a powerful new gaming PC. Consoles just aren't what they used to be. Xbox is basically dead and Playstation hasn't released anything exclusive to PS5 this gen that stands out to me. Switch 2 is neat handheld but that feels like it's own niche/gimmick and I never bother connecting it to a TV.
I mean it felt like the PS5 was impossible to buy for it's first few years, then when I finally got one it wasn't long until the Pro released, and now that I got a Pro they are talking about PS6, all while 95% of the games I play are 3'rd party and crossgen. Combine that with Sony's awful customer service and them releasing most of their games on PC and I feel like I am just over trying to keep up with their home consoles going forward.
That and I am sick and tired of subscriptions, especially just to have basic services like online access and cloud saves.
Crazy how they are already talking about next gen when it feels like this gen barely even started. I mean I can't think of much in the way of games truly unique to this gen that really standout to me, seems like the vast majority of games so far have been crossgen. Heck they are still releasing a bunch of remasters and remakes.
@Flaming_Kaiser Yeah I'd say this game is a total "maybe consider when it's very well discounted" sort of situation. Especially considering how they're trying to charge $100 for the game with all the DLC, there is just no way this game is worth anywhere near that much.
This is easily their best looking special edition controller but white thumbsticks always seem to get dirty too quickly, not a good color for that. Anyways by now I got plenty of PS5 controllers and after getting an Edge I have no interest in buying more.
@Rich33 I've seen this same problem show up on gaming PC's from time to time. Despite having great hardware some games will just really struggle to perform well simply because the optimization is really poor or some other technical issue with development.
This port of MGS3 is obviously just sort of a rush job, the proper time and attention wasn't put into making it run well. I imagine this will be a common situation for this era where it will get a lot better later after some patching. This is generally why I just wait for sales now a days, by the time it's on sale most of the issues should be ironed out.
This is a huge deal to me, for years this has been one of the top games of mine locked down to PC. Having it on a PS5 Pro sounds amazing! Hope they have most of the DLC included in the console release or make it an easy to buy bundle or something.
@REALAIS Basing "most popular games" off physical sales is like basing "most popular movies" off blu-ray sales. The greater vast majority of game sales now a days are digital, and Mario Kart World is a game that is especially likely to have seen significantly more digital sales than physical as it can be a digital code included with Switch 2 consoles.
This article feels like it's a vain attempt to put the new AC game on a pedestal more than anything.
I always call stuff like this "meme games" because that's basically what they are. The current popular thing among streamers providing meme content for gaming social media. Sometimes they can be fun in a different or challenging sort of way, they used to be old internet browser games such as QWOP.
I always wanted to see this one as it seemed like it would have been MUCH better than the disappointing SF X Tekken. I think that game did so bad it basically killed this one.
At it's core, what makes Sony what it is has always been their hardware. They best not forget that. Media trends come and go, but good hardware is always appealing.
This game looks like the type of thing I would wait for a discount to get. Mafia 3 was bad enough to make me lose faith in any new entries living up to the standard the first two established and the gameplay video I saw just didn't look impressive.
@Topov81 Being able to play 360 games like this on Series X is one of the few things I really like about Xbox. No need for this new version which is basically the same thing, and I like the simple retro charm of the original anyways.

Normally I would agree with him if it wasn't for Xbox being such a joke right now.
Re: Mega Publisher EA Agrees to $55 Billion Buyout by Saudi Arabia, Silver Lake, Affinity Partners
Not surprising for EA these days, they have been complete sellouts for the past several generations.

This is a neat game but the performance has been awful on PS5, hopefully they fixed that.

Yeah it feels just like Tetris Effect but with Lumines gameplay.
Re: Sony's Convoluted PS Store Refund Process Has Finally Been Streamlined
Easily the worst thing about buying games on Playstation is Sony's customer service and policies.
They always seem to be anti-consumer, you really have to fight them on everything and even then they will still likely act against you.

Runners up being GTAV and RDR2. It must have been a slow year.

@Oram77 I'm sure it was. 3'rd person action games like that tend to get highly overrated by their fanbase.
