This is just a reminder of how this site is apparently bought and paid for. IGN doing what they do, they're an extension of marketing for their advertisers first, anything else a distant second.
@PuppetMaster Yeah the paid online subscription is what will really kill my interest in a PC Xbox. One of the big appeals of PC gaming is not needing a subscription to play games online, and Gamepass has become too expensive for me to justify.
So what is the point in buying this again? Sounds like I might as well just completely ignore Xbox for now on. Xbox games are going to be on everything but it sounds like Sony is going to be more focused on exclusives.
If I am buying something for Windows gaming it is going to need Steam support. The Xbox for PC support is basically just the same games I already got on Xbox only far less variety, there is nothing unique there really. All the cool unique PC stuff is on other apps and storefronts.
This looks awesome. Arcade machines like this are what I loved about the 90's and early 00's arcade era. So many fun machines with cool and engaging lightgun setups.
@ButterySmooth30FPS Why would I want to buy and play a game like this? If someone has a bottle for sale and it looks and smells like it has piss in it, do you really need to buy and taste it to confirm?
I don't think this game has a chance at getting much of any audience anymore. They really turned off most fans of the franchise and I don't think they're coming back.
Does anybody really need a review for this? Seems like if you're the audience for it you really wouldn't need to know how critics feel about it, especially after the free server slam.
@themightyant Claiming they are live service is to dismiss the entirety of their single player/offline offerings. I have most of those sports games and I never even use any of the "live service" elements and that has never had any sort of negative impact on my ability to enjoy them. In fact I still play games in all of those franchises that have been taken offline and I can still have a lot of fun playing them.
I think you are simply trying to call anything live service that you can in a desperation move to defend live service games in general and act like they are more popular than they are.
In a true live service game there is no option to play it offline, and there is no ability to truly play it by yourself. Like try playing Concord today, even if you have a disc it's impossible because the game required you to be logged into it's servers to play it.
@themightyant It is dishonest to call games that have online features live service when you really don't need to play them online at all. Seems like a pretty simple concept that doesn't require any mental gymnastics to justify it.
@themightyant Live service =/= any video game with online multiplayer. Games like NBA 2K, Madden, and FC26 are definitely NOT live service as they contain single player content and are playable offline. Same with games like Battlefield 6 and COD, they are also playable offline and have single player content, definitely not live service. In fact nothing in that top 10 list is live service, it's all games that you could easily enjoy without doing anything online.
Live service games are games where an internet connection is required, where you have nothing in the way of single player or offline content.
@Contimaloris Yup some people act like an enthusiast fanbase shouldn't have any standards for their hobby. If a bunch of people who are passionate about something are really critical of something that falls into their hobby space, I don't think attacking them or trying to stifle their discontent is justified. That's called a reception, it's feedback. If it's negative, well maybe there is a good reason for it.
@LogicStrikesAgain Not at all. Toxic positivity is merely behavior like trying to make people follow a list of requirements in order to be critical of something. I am not trying to tell anyone they can't praise this game, if they like it good for them.
@Northern_munkey Can't help but to laugh at the notions of some collectors edition being some handcrafted art piece. It's a mass-produced product being sold by a big corporation for a big corporate media product, and they are trying to charge a lot of money for it as well.
@pauvregaspard There is nothing "bold" about this game besides the way they seem to expect everyone to be accepting of it. It is a product made by a multi-billion dollar corporation owned by another multi-billion dollar corporation that was exposed for using AI and stealing other people's work for the "art style." If that isn't creatively bankrupt enough, it is just an extraction shooter at the end of the day, about as far from bold as they could have been, it was a total safe researched decision to make a game like this, likely pushed by suits high up in the corporate ladder pointing at graphs and pie charts.
Repetitive map and events? It's Tokyo Xtreme Racer! It's always been all about racing duels on Japanese freeways. What were they expecting?
Also, I don't have an issue with the drifting and it's a relatively minor part of this game.
And Grindy? It simply expects you to build up a car and focus on it for a while until you can move up to something faster. That is what these games have always been about, every game doesn't need to be Forza.
@SuntannedDuck2 Pretty sure they make these games for people who are fans of cars and driving games, not people who seem to hate them or couldn't care less.
Not every racing game needs to appeal to the Mario Kart audience, I personally find the "boring" immersive and realistic racing games to be fun and exciting. It sounds like the new Carmageddon is the type of racing game you would be into.
On a long list of things that are a complete waste of money, buying a collectors edition of the latest live service online multiplayer shooter has gotta be pretty high up there.
Test Drive is a fun and underrated game, always enjoyed it's open world driving. It's biggest issue was always the forced always-online. So unnecessary, same issue The Crew always had.
What a terrible concept. It's bad enough how quickly this game gets boring and repetitive, but that sort of predatory behavior just makes me want to have nothing to do with the game, and I was always a big fan of the Skate games.
@BionicDodo Yeah this would have interested me with the changes if they did something to properly remaster this game at least, like giving us a zoomed out/higher res widescreen conversion. As it is, this is the same as the original versions, flaws intact, without the soundtrack.
It just seems like they did the laziest approach to this they could have. Just throw a number of straight-up rom ports of the one game on it, give it some new half-assed soundtrack so they don't even need to bother with spending the money to do the original soundtrack justice, and sell it as an anniversary "collection."
The lack of the original soundtrack is devastating. This could have been a great way to go back and play the original, but now I would just want to go back and play an original version.
@Flaming_Kaiser That's why I like to go for slower paced videos, like people recording themselves doing something, podcasts, news, that sort of stuff.
If you get into the short attention span stuff that's all about fast cuts quick takes and excitement all the time I think that's when it becomes harmful.
The "shorts" and TikTok format is the worst, it's like anyone who is really into that has no attention span.
I feel like the type of people who aren't into gaming are the most likely to be addicted to social media and mobile apps. If you're into gaming that will often get in the way of that sort of activity and that isn't a bad thing.
I always hated this Dark Souls approach to games. If I want my game to be easier and more accessible I feel like I should be able to play it like that. I hate this concept of gatekeeping with hard difficulty as the only way to play a game. Just because some people might get enjoyment out of that doesn't mean I should be forced to play games the way they like to.
This is just a disappointing sequel in general. It lacks the tone and humor of the original. Feels like the result of some people taking over the work someone far more talented created for them.
I think most people are aware of how long it took this gen to take off and the PS5 Pro is still a relatively new console that is good enough to be considered state of the art. We have no need for a PS6 right now or anytime soon. This isn't the 90's and 00's when we had rapid and noticeable advancement, it's easy for me to play PS4 games and have them look better than a lot of PS5 games. There is simply no need to be upgrading hardware routinely anymore. We can last a long time on this current gen hardware and it's not like there is a ton of games pushing their capabilities right now anyways.

They made a bad game. That's all there is to it. The rest is just excuses.
