PS6 Could Be Delayed Due to RAM Price Chaos 1

Sony hasn’t even announced the PS6 yet, so there’s nothing for it to officially delay.

However, the company has acknowledged its next console in tech roundtables with partner AMD, and all signs have been pointing to a late 2027 release.

But Insider Gaming reports that the current RAM apocalypse could be about to scupper plans, and delay the system out of its internally intended window.

Again, the PS6 hasn’t been officially announced, so there’s nothing to delay – but it’s possible the platform holder may be forced to rethink its plans internally.

For those who don’t know, RAM prices have surged recently due to the AI boom. It was reported that OpenAI had signed contracts with major manufacturers like Samsung to buy up about 40% of the world’s entire RAM supply.

This has sent the whole market spiralling, with Sony apparently having the foresight to scoop up enough components to keep the PS5’s price stable for now, but who knows how long that will last?

It’s claimed that the manufacturer may be considering pushing back the PS6, then, as it waits for other suppliers to emerge and the whole RAM situation to settle down.

The past five years have been really challenging for PlayStation, through no fault of its own. It’s had to deal with a pandemic, semi-conductor shortages, a turbulent economy, tariffs, and now rising RAM prices.

To be fair, despite strong criticism from some corners of the web, it’s navigated most of these challenges fairly well.

We certainly wouldn’t be surprised if Sony is considering postponing the PS6, but that will upend a lot of its plans. We’re sure discussions are taking place behind-the-scenes, but we’d be surprised if a final decision has been made.
