Re: Preview: Dying Light: The Beast May Be the Best the Series Has Ever Been

JayJ

I think this is one of things franchises where it would have been better off just being a single release, but they went with turning it into a franchise anyways just to make some more money off it. Loved the first game, but the sequel seemed very unnecessary and unappealing to me. Can't say I care about this third entry.

Re: Ready or Not (PS5) - Disturbing Co-Op Shooter Is a Tactical Must-Play

JayJ

As a fan of SWAT 4 and Tom Clancy's Vegas 2 this game is a blast and seems to combine some of the best aspects of those two games. It's a proper tactical shooter for people like me who miss those games. Definitely leans more on SWAT than Vegas, it's got a real emphasis on proper police work as opposed to just taking down terrorists, but the squad control feels like it did in Vegas 2 which was fantastic for solo. I just have a lot of fun playing this myself, solo experience is definitely not lacking IMO, far better than anything I have played like this since Vegas 2.

Re: Today's Your Last Chance to Earn Points for Free PS Store Credit

JayJ

@DaveTheRave Yeah I remember finding out about it pretty late, because Sony did a terrible job of promoting and integrating it. You had to sign up for it yourself, it wasn't automatically applied to everyone, and you could only see your points and redeem them on the PS app. It's like they didn't want it to be a big thing.

Re: Interview: Out Today, Ready or Not Is the Modern, Relentless Rainbow Six: Vegas for PS5

JayJ

Bought this game and loving it. I don't need to dismember dead bodies or see naked sex crime victims to enjoy it, not sure how that became such a big controversy but I really think that would have zero impact on what I enjoy about the game.

I am simply a big fan of tactical shooters, especially the old SWAT and Rainbow Six games. This one definitely feels more like SWAT than classic R6 and that's not a bad thing, I would honestly call this the only true sequel to SWAT 4 that really carries on what that game accomplished.

Have to give a shoutout to the gunplay and controls as well. The dualsense triggers feel great and the guns all seem to have their own distinctive and realistic feel. They have just the right amount of customization, and feel great to use. Game also has a proper focus on providing solo play while offering online coop as well. This is what I have long desired in a new first person shooter.

Re: PS6 Still Years Away Despite Increase in Next-Gen Chatter

JayJ

Why would they release a PS6 soon? They literally just released the PS5 Pro less than a year ago and have announced a major performance update for that coming next year. Seems like a PS6 would be a complete waste right now, might as well wait until they can make it a significant upgrade that will last a lot longer.

Re: PS5's AI Slop Shovelware Has Hit a New Low

JayJ

I have been complaining about this for years, especially on the Nintendo Switch E-shop where it's basically a sea of low quality shovelware absolutely dominating the new releases section every week.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Officially Game Over for PSVR2?

JayJ

I said it before and I'll say it again. VR was basically 3DTV all over again (anybody remember how that was briefly a thing?). Just some largely gimmicky thing that some tech enthusiasts got hyped on that most people just find to be too impractical and limiting to use regularly.

When I bought PSVR back on the PS4 it's something I only used a few times and it's been collecting dust stored away somewhere ever since. I just didn't really like it, gave me motion sickness too often. Yeah some of the VR stuff was neat to see and experience at first but it didn't take me long to get over that wow factor and then I just never wanted to go back. That and nobody has convinced me that strapping screens right in front of your eyes couldn't be harmful, and even if it isn't I just hate the isolation of using it, I just like being aware of my surroundings and being able to interact with people around me.

Re: Heading Out, a Super Stylish Narrative Driving Game, Is Coming to PS5

JayJ

@RobN The developer has a note about it on their Steam store listing that pretty well describes it. I mean you know the politics are a big part of a game when the store listing warns you about it. Here's a copy and paste of what it says:

The developers describe the content like this:

The story of Heading Out addresses racism, mental health (anxiety, depression), inequality, and other social issues. There is no graphic nudity, sex scenes, or violence in the game, but the adult characters sometimes talk about intimacy, relationship violence, and - very rarely - sexual violence. These conversations are not graphic. One of the game's villains uses hate speech against minorities. Most adult characters use vulgar language. The game is recommended for mature audiences.

Re: Heading Out, a Super Stylish Narrative Driving Game, Is Coming to PS5

JayJ

@Jrs1 Yeah that would have been fun. This is just bad, the storytelling isn't even good it's just really lame and there isn't even a real emphasis on the driving it feels more like a mini-game. You can tell the developer was trying to make something very different from what it could appear to be.

I could almost describe this as a bad visual novel with some driving and map navigation mini games.

Re: Heading Out, a Super Stylish Narrative Driving Game, Is Coming to PS5

JayJ

This game was nothing like it looked. Seemed like it would be an outrun style game, but that's just a surprisingly small part of it and you wind up doing some map screen navigation mini-game half the time. That and the politics need to be addressed, normally I don't try to make an issue out of that sort of thing but this game was very heavy handed with the political narratives to the point where I was cringing a lot.

Re: Retro Handheld Manufacturer Anbernic Pays Tribute to One of Sony's Best Form Factors

JayJ

The PSP Go was so far ahead of it's time, one of the first digital-only handheld game consoles from a major brand that I can think of. I remember how back when it released it was hated on for it's lack of physical game support but I absolutely loved the form factor and replaced my original PSP with it, digital games just made so much sense for me as a portable since I hated having to carry a collection of games around with me. Still love the design.

Re: Poll: Do You Care About the Death of PlayStation Stars?

JayJ

For me the value of this was always the $5 discounts I could cash in. It's just always been nice to get a little back after spending so much on video games.

Doesn't surprise me to see this go though with Nintendo dropping gold coins and Xbox reducing it's rewards program. Seems like giving back just isn't a popular concept anymore. These companies just keep trying to take more and more.

Re: Even More PS5 Price Increases Being Considered by Sony

JayJ

Blaming Trump and tariffs seems like a blame game when inflation has been a major issue over the past 5 years. If anything prices for most things have gone down lately from where they were just a year ago. I think what's really happening is the cost of electronics is going up due to all the threats and instability where all the chips are being made.

Re: Intergalactic PS5 Star 'Bootcamp-ing' with Neil Druckmann to Ignore the Haters

JayJ

@Zeldorf Probably not. Comments sections for gaming sites are basically like posting on Reddit gaming these days. Whole scene is atroturfed and full of people patting each other on the back for having the same politics and opinions that they approve of, with anything contrary being aggressively demonized, gaslit, and shut down. Then these people later wonder why the general public doesn't echo their comments and feelings when something is out.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think of the PS5 Pro, Six Months Later?

JayJ

I actually just bought one last week lol.

I think it's a nice product, the most powerful console this gen and likely for the rest of this gen. It's also a product of our times, by that I mean it isn't going to blow you away with better graphics, but it does take the PS5's already great capabilities and make it that much more capable so better frame rates are standard as well as more genuine 4K gaming ability.

I wouldn't call it a must-have for it's price, but I think it serves a purpose for someone like me who wanted something better without investing in a serious gaming PC.
