Katsuhiro Harada Wants to Show Off the Unfinished Tekken X Street Fighter 1

For a good few years, Tekken X Street Fighter was one of the most talked about topics among gamers.

You may recall that this collaboration between Capcom and Bandai Namco did result in the release of Street Fighter X Tekken, a 2D-style fighter that we personally enjoyed but found itself embroiled in a number of controversies.

It ultimately underperformed, and Tekken’s own take on the crossover – despite being actively in development at one point – never released. Akuma was added as a guest character in Tekken 7, and that’s about as close as we ever got.

Now, speaking with Destructoid, Tekken boss Katsuhiro Harada has hinted that he wants to publicly show the progress his team made on the project:

“I would like to show people what we already have [made of Tekken X Street Fighter]. That would be cool if we could do that. We were 30% into development, so fingers crossed.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Harada mentioned that he believes a tag-team mode could be added to future Tekken titles, as opposed to in a hypothetical Tekken Tag Tournament 3.

He admitted that tag-team fighters like Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls are popular right now, but conceded that it takes so long to make games, tastes could have changed by the time it completed development on something in that space:

“We have so many more moves than a typical 2D fighter. So much more work is involved in trying to do that with a 3D game. It’s probably a ways off if it were to happen, and so probably not in my working lifetime. So that’s something that the next generation can decide.”
