@ApostateMage I wouldn't feel bad if I were you. Cracking game from a great developer and fantastic studio (Ghibli). Deffo could be worse..you could have spent £69 on Limited Edition Fifa 15
These things never actually feel like a timed exclusive to me. More like an imposed restriction to the gamers on the other platform.
I mean the content is finished, right? So all you are doing is preventing people from playing it. No-one is actually getting the content 'early' as the publishers and platform holders like to boast about. Cheeses me off no end whether it's Sony or M$ who do it.
Cheers Sammy! I had no idea Myst existed on PS Vita. Totally going to get it now. Shame it's £7.99 here in the EU. Breath of Fire looks cool too. Tempted to create a US account just for this sale lol
Good idea. Bear in mind that a lot of people (myself included) came from Xbox 360 so haven't played the Uncharted games. A trilogy would be an excellent idea as it gives all those players access to the Uncharted franchise on their PS4, with upgraded/'next-gen' graphics. £40 for three games is actually not too bad and I think it would sell quite well.
Kinda ticks me off actually. Can I please just sit and chill for two minutes without being marketed to...sold to....etc? Don't get me wrong, I've no problems with it on sports titles, open world driving games and such. But in a fantasy world, it does kinda pull me out into the 'real world' somewhat.
I just think time and a place for this stuff and FFX isn't it in my view.
@rastamadeus Yeah, gotta agree. I've noticed a huge shift in the last few years from developers and publishers. You're right though, annual sports games make sense. I have good friends who get 500+ hours of out Fifa each and fair play to them. CD Projekt Red seem to be bucking the trend and getting a lot of love as a result.
@AyeHaley Yeah, i know what you mean. What they did to Dead Space 3 springs to mind. Turned it into a third person coop shooter laced with add ons and microtransactions. Then canned the series after sales were "below expectations". People told them quite clearly they would ruin the game. But as always with EA, it seems their bottom line is more important than what gamers want.
@kyleforrester87 Yeah, you may be right and i'm sure they could afford it. It seemed to sell reasonably well on the One though and I think T2 would sell fairly well on both platforms when released. I like how they were trying something new with game design (bit like Evolve). It just looks dull as dishwater to my eyes.
This was always going to happen. EA kinda got into bed with MS with the arrival of next gen. Now that PS4 is outselling Xbox One by quite a margin, no way in the world would EA restrict themselves to just Xbox now they have seen the hardward numbers. They'll no doubt trot out phrases like "keen to bring the franchise to Sony players who we love very very much"...etc
Really does depend. Much rather have a retail copy - it can be sold! So recently i bought The Order and sold it for nigh on the same as i bought it making it pretty much a free game.
I have no problem buying digital if its the only option e.g. The Golf Club, Child of Light, Transistor...etc. But retail is always my preferred option. Plus i like having cool collector editions, art books, soundtracks etc and happy to pay a little more for.
That said...there really should be a choice as digital suits some people and retail suits others. The world is big enough for them both! Publishers totally want the world to go digital though so i fear retail will die out as we are given less choice in the years to come
@BLPs Exactly! "Time and effort" doesn't fit with the yearly rush out of titles that all top publishers seemingly MUST stick to in order to satisfy the bottom line and their investors. Hence why publishers just release broken games, try to embargo the reviews and hope not too much of it actually connects with the fan.
For me it's a case of trying to get Dragon Fantasy complete on Vita. That an get Tales of Symphonia: DotNW done. Got an afternoons levelling so I can finally conquer a double hard boss. Grrr. Oh, and a spot of Drive Club.
I read this as there is an increase in pressure on the whole Playstation brand i.e. make money at all costs. So I will expect some decisions that put profit before consumers. Quick example might be something like ads. They are already appearing in the news feed whether you like it or not. How long before they are on the actual dash like Xbox?
Might be a little bit cynical, but this actually concerns me.
If i'd spent years working on a project and I got a shed load of faceless internet criticism before it was even released, I'd feel the need to come out and say "give it a chance" too. At least they are engaging in debate with gamers.
Private online lobbies for me please! I just want to set up a race with my club/mates from time to time. You know...pick the track, weather, class etc, and just race with my buddies. Standard stuff in a lot of racing games.
@JaxonH Totally agree. Boycotting is just about the only thing we can do. I worry that Bethesda might just end up going the same way all 'top' publishers do now they have announced an E3 slot. Fine line between making money to make games and making games to make money these days.
@rastamadeus Man not entitled to his own opinions these days eh? You never been excited for a game?? He just echo'd what a lot of people thought. Trailer was very different to expectations and it looks darn fantastic. No need to rip on people for getting excited.
I'm stoked for both. However, I'd be very surprised if they both came out in the West in 2015. I'd hazard a guess at P5 in 2015 and FF15 in 2016. Really can't wait to play both though. Genuinely excited after a somewhat disappointing 2014 in gaming.
@SteveButler2210 Cheers. Planning a long stint overseas soon so I need a few games loaded up on the Vita. I love the older RPGs which is why this piqued my interest. Sold then...i'll give it a whirl, as you say, price is good. Cheers for the advice.
So, Sony just announced a deal with Spotify. Can't tell if this is coming to Vita though. Can't be a coincidence that they drop Youtube and pick up Spotify.
Sammy, do you know if Sony have to pay some kind of fee to have YouTube on the platform? Just thinking if they did, and no-one used it (to any great degree), then perhaps ditching it would free up some cash.
Definitely will play this! Love the Tales of series and i would certainly welcome a PS4 version simply because I like the DS4 better than the DS3! And free DLC is always a good thing
Nice review, thanks! Definitely want to give this series a try. Sounds like a good time to dip in. Wading through Tales of Symphonia and Fairy Fencer first though!
Thanks for the review Mat, good read. Will definitely pick this up as i never actually played it, astonishingly. Looking forward to seeing those zombie attacks through the walls
Yeah, it's a bit odd to say the least - judging by Western standards. And i for one will pass on this. In Japan though, this stuff is just not that big a deal which is why they get made.
More i see the more i cant wait to get stuck into this. Looks amazing. Has an interesting set of characters, open world and a very interesting looking battle system. Of all the games slated to come out, this is the one i'm looking forward to the most.
@get2sammyb Hey Gaz & Sammy, as a big F1 fan i was gutted to hear this wasnt on PS4 this year (even more so given Project Cars has been delayed). When you say "proper sequel", do you know if any significant updates are going to happen for the PS4 version? Tough to innovate an annual game such as F1, i know.
Huge kudos to the guy for creating something like that, self-taught too. But yeah, Vita is probably a more portable and cost-effective solution for me!
@get2sammyb Ha, literally just googled for a release date on this and your article was top of the Google news search results! Does this have a retail release or is it just digital?
Exactly. Remember, this is EA people. They will only put on annual games once they are near the end of their life-cycle. The life-cycle being once the game has been milked and most of the profit earned and the next is about to come out. All this is, quite simply, is an attempt to monetise older games where the profit margins are at their lowest.
So expect Fifa 15 for example 9 or 10 months after it is released and Fifa 16 is on the horizon.
And if anyone expects a game like Dragon Age Inquisition, ME4 within even 24 months of its release, you are absolutely out of your mind. Those types of games will only ever become 'free' once it's sequel is announced.
This is just making money of lower profit margin games that are not supported very well once the next iteration comes out....and you pay for the digital privilege to do so. Brilliant business from EA if they can get people to sign up for it.
I simplify greatly here, but i really don't see how this is a good deal to anyone except EA.
Absolutely staggered that so many developers are bringing their games out in the same month. Surely sales of each title will suffer? Granted, a fair few games have delayed and a fair few will have saved up due to the 'drought' that is apparent on next-gen at the minute. But jeez...just look at the list!
Yeah. I went PS1, PS2...halo totally got me hooked so Xbox and then 360. But as the life cycle of 360 drew on, i got more and more frustrated with MS. Bought a PS3 in 2013 for the JRPGs and day 1 bought PS4.
But the thing is, it wasn't Sony that pulled me in per se. It was MS who pushed me out. But i'm so glad. The PS3 and PS4 are both superb machines and the content is excellent.
Sammy, you notice the shift in the language Microsoft were using? Gone was "power of the cloud"....now it is "powered by Xbox live"? Using the word "gamers" and "gaming", "thank you"....etc.
"Best place to play" was another one i picked up on and very reminiscent of Andrew House's comment at the close of Sony's 2013 show.
A lot of it sounded like a re-hash of what Sony was saying last year.
I for one wasn't blown away. Let's see what Sony have to say in a few hours. God i'll be tired at work tomorrow!
Edit: Just read your other article Sammy! Looks like i wasnt the only one to find it interesting
They can bring all they want to Fifa 15, but unless they fix their constant server problems, i wont buy it! It's a running joke about the "Cannot connect to EA servers. Please try again later". Just happened to me a minute ago. And the day before that...and the numerous other times since i bought Fifa 14
I'd imagine a PS3 price drop is probably odds on. Cant see PS4 price cut just yet I'm expecting a Knack/Killzone to PS Plus announcement too. Perhaps a GTA 5/PS4 bundle? That might turn a few heads
