Re: Unfortunately, You'll Have to Wait to Play This Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC on PS4 and PS3

General_Spiller

These things never actually feel like a timed exclusive to me. More like an imposed restriction to the gamers on the other platform.

I mean the content is finished, right? So all you are doing is preventing people from playing it. No-one is actually getting the content 'early' as the publishers and platform holders like to boast about. Cheeses me off no end whether it's Sony or M$ who do it.

Re: So, Final Fantasy XV Features Product Placement

General_Spiller

Kinda ticks me off actually. Can I please just sit and chill for two minutes without being marketed to...sold to....etc? Don't get me wrong, I've no problems with it on sports titles, open world driving games and such. But in a fantasy world, it does kinda pull me out into the 'real world' somewhat.

I just think time and a place for this stuff and FFX isn't it in my view.

Re: Titanfall 2 Mechs Its Way to PlayStation 4

@rastamadeus Yeah, gotta agree. I've noticed a huge shift in the last few years from developers and publishers. You're right though, annual sports games make sense. I have good friends who get 500+ hours of out Fifa each and fair play to them. CD Projekt Red seem to be bucking the trend and getting a lot of love as a result.

Re: Titanfall 2 Mechs Its Way to PlayStation 4

@AyeHaley Yeah, i know what you mean. What they did to Dead Space 3 springs to mind. Turned it into a third person coop shooter laced with add ons and microtransactions. Then canned the series after sales were "below expectations". People told them quite clearly they would ruin the game. But as always with EA, it seems their bottom line is more important than what gamers want.

Re: Titanfall 2 Mechs Its Way to PlayStation 4

General_Spiller

@kyleforrester87 Yeah, you may be right and i'm sure they could afford it. It seemed to sell reasonably well on the One though and I think T2 would sell fairly well on both platforms when released. I like how they were trying something new with game design (bit like Evolve). It just looks dull as dishwater to my eyes.

Re: Titanfall 2 Mechs Its Way to PlayStation 4

General_Spiller

This was always going to happen. EA kinda got into bed with MS with the arrival of next gen. Now that PS4 is outselling Xbox One by quite a margin, no way in the world would EA restrict themselves to just Xbox now they have seen the hardward numbers. They'll no doubt trot out phrases like "keen to bring the franchise to Sony players who we love very very much"...etc

Re: Talking Point: Are You Spending More Money Than Ever on Digital Games?

General_Spiller

Really does depend. Much rather have a retail copy - it can be sold! So recently i bought The Order and sold it for nigh on the same as i bought it making it pretty much a free game.

I have no problem buying digital if its the only option e.g. The Golf Club, Child of Light, Transistor...etc. But retail is always my preferred option. Plus i like having cool collector editions, art books, soundtracks etc and happy to pay a little more for.

That said...there really should be a choice as digital suits some people and retail suits others. The world is big enough for them both! Publishers totally want the world to go digital though so i fear retail will die out as we are given less choice in the years to come

Re: PS4 Takes Centre Stage in Sony's Big New Three Year Strategy

General_Spiller

I read this as there is an increase in pressure on the whole Playstation brand i.e. make money at all costs. So I will expect some decisions that put profit before consumers. Quick example might be something like ads. They are already appearing in the news feed whether you like it or not. How long before they are on the actual dash like Xbox?

Might be a little bit cynical, but this actually concerns me.

Re: Review: F1 2014 (PlayStation 3)

General_Spiller

@get2sammyb Hey Gaz & Sammy, as a big F1 fan i was gutted to hear this wasnt on PS4 this year (even more so given Project Cars has been delayed). When you say "proper sequel", do you know if any significant updates are going to happen for the PS4 version? Tough to innovate an annual game such as F1, i know.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Pay for an EA Access Subscription on PS4?

General_Spiller

@heyzeus002

Exactly. Remember, this is EA people. They will only put on annual games once they are near the end of their life-cycle. The life-cycle being once the game has been milked and most of the profit earned and the next is about to come out. All this is, quite simply, is an attempt to monetise older games where the profit margins are at their lowest.

So expect Fifa 15 for example 9 or 10 months after it is released and Fifa 16 is on the horizon.

And if anyone expects a game like Dragon Age Inquisition, ME4 within even 24 months of its release, you are absolutely out of your mind. Those types of games will only ever become 'free' once it's sequel is announced.

This is just making money of lower profit margin games that are not supported very well once the next iteration comes out....and you pay for the digital privilege to do so. Brilliant business from EA if they can get people to sign up for it.

I simplify greatly here, but i really don't see how this is a good deal to anyone except EA.

Re: E3 2014: A Staggering Number of Xbox Fans Have Converted to PS4, Says Sony

General_Spiller

Yeah. I went PS1, PS2...halo totally got me hooked so Xbox and then 360. But as the life cycle of 360 drew on, i got more and more frustrated with MS. Bought a PS3 in 2013 for the JRPGs and day 1 bought PS4.

But the thing is, it wasn't Sony that pulled me in per se. It was MS who pushed me out. But i'm so glad. The PS3 and PS4 are both superb machines and the content is excellent.

Re: Talking Point: Will Sony Have Enough PS4 Material to Topple Microsoft's Game Heavy Show?

General_Spiller

Sammy, you notice the shift in the language Microsoft were using? Gone was "power of the cloud"....now it is "powered by Xbox live"? Using the word "gamers" and "gaming", "thank you"....etc.

"Best place to play" was another one i picked up on and very reminiscent of Andrew House's comment at the close of Sony's 2013 show.

A lot of it sounded like a re-hash of what Sony was saying last year.

I for one wasn't blown away. Let's see what Sony have to say in a few hours. God i'll be tired at work tomorrow!

Edit: Just read your other article Sammy! Looks like i wasnt the only one to find it interesting

Re: E3 2014: FIFA 15 Brings Emotion to the PS4 and PS3 on 26th September

General_Spiller

They can bring all they want to Fifa 15, but unless they fix their constant server problems, i wont buy it! It's a running joke about the "Cannot connect to EA servers. Please try again later". Just happened to me a minute ago. And the day before that...and the numerous other times since i bought Fifa 14

Fix it EA!! You are losing customers....
