I trust Sony. I trust them to be focused like a laser on the next $70 GoW/Horizon/Uncharted/Ratchet/LastofUs game. And since subscription services are now a thing, I trust them to Hoover up $60/80/120 per year too (much more, if you pay as you go). But we'll never get actual BC from Sony again, all they care about now is the money. MS is the only one that allows BC with old discs and the games are enhanced too.
I really doubt all these PS3 rumors, Sony bought an entire streaming platform/ architecture to create PS Now. They haven't even recouped that investment yet, due to sluggish customer engagement with Now. The whole point of Spartacus was to relaunch Now and hopefully recoup their investment. PS3 emulation may come eventually, but Sony will never allow us to play our old discs in a newer system. They will never allow BC again due to Jim Ryan's overwhelming greed.
Jim Ryan said he doesn't understand why people want to play older games. But now apparently older games get dropped into the ultra-high $120 tier? And we still can't play older games we already own just with the disc like Xbox. Sony and Nintendo charge too much for Retro. I'll stick with basic Plus.
Most of these changes involve items and skills which were generally OP broken. Other neglected items and abilities are getting buffed. Seems like the focus is mostly on magic and caster items. I'd like to eventually see a shared tab on the chest that lets you pass down items to a new character. I kinda hate the idea of having to re-farm certain items that took forever to drop (brass shield).
Maybe they're worried about re-releasing Road Rage and Hit & Run due to possible lawsuits over design plagiarism. The existing settlement might not cover newer systems/ports.
I almost wish you got a free re-spec with NewGame+.
Then you could re-spec, play a different class style, and finally use the items you carried over but never used (without starting over from scratch with nothing).
YouTube is loaded with exploits due to the open world aspect of the game. You can even camp behind an ancient dragon and chip away at it with no risk for 100K souls. You don't have to fight any bosses till you're ready. So, no, the game doesn't need an easy mode.
I'm avoiding all fog gates for now. Just running around Limgrave collecting all the materials you need to level up, boost healing, chalice buffs, and playing with spirit companions. It looks like you can take as long as you want, to get as strong as you want. Riding around and exploring is seriously fun in itself. Creeping around in stealth mode is very intense and I love backstabbing monsters. Day/Night cycle is fascinating, there's lots of strange events to observe. This might be the first Souls game I actually finish...
Walmart has Elden Ring for $49 and Horizon for $59.
I bought Elden and it's the first Souls game that really feels super accessible.
Pro version runs at 1800p/30 with HDR and looks basically phenomenal. Base PS4 looks decent enough and still has a good frame rate at a lower resolution.
I don't have a dog in this fight, because I haven't upgraded. But it's kind of disappointing that the PS5 seems like PS4 Super Pro. You still have to chose between Performance and Quality, but the image quality and FPS are higher overall. Usually we're not talking about the need for compromises a full year after Next-Gen. I wonder if we'll eventually get a PS5 Pro that can slam 4K 60 all day...
This game should be fascinating to watch & study, because it should accurately reveal what each Playstation system can do. When we see the difference between Pro & PS5, will people say 'I need Next-Gen' or will they say 'I can wait'.
Regardless of what Nintendo says about the 'middle', the Switch is mostly played out. There's no way they're selling another 50 million. Nintendo said it will make fewer systems this year and they must introduce newer hardware soon. Nintendo always lies about new hardware, so they don't get stuck with outdated inventory.
Talking about a 700 million dollar Respawn deal from 3-4 years ago...is BS. There's been massive inflation from financial upheaval, stimulus, & COVID. In the retro game market, everything is double pre-COVID prices and more if you go back further. Breakdown the Activision deal from 2022 with 68 Billion per # of developers...
If there was a system without CoD, I would consider that a positive. Then people could buy actual games instead of throwing their money down an annualized hole. The Switch is outselling everything, Nintendo could care less.
Jim Ryan crunched the numbers and realized he doesn't need the original PSVR owners. Releasing an expensive new add-on device with no built-in game library makes far more sense. However, Ryan's no mere fool. He will quickly move to capitalize on interest in old VR games with limited edition NFTs for the hundreds of games that won't work. Each of the highly collectible numbered NFTs will consist of a simple empty static screen. Stay tuned!

Re: As Bargain Bin Tomb Raider Goes to Embracer, PlayStation Seeks Acquisition Expert
Then it would have been worth 300 million more just to get everything...
That kind of money is nothing in these mega buyouts.
Re: As Bargain Bin Tomb Raider Goes to Embracer, PlayStation Seeks Acquisition Expert
I agree, Sony should have scooped up these IPs for cheap.
Just being able to add these game to subscription service would be worth it.
Re: Mini Review: The House of the Dead: Remake (PS4) - Faithful Arcade Recreation Is a Bit of a Misfire
Too bad they didn't include 1&2, like they said they would.
Re: Classic Games Including PS1 Curiously Expiring on PS3, PS Vita
I would expect Sony to delist all retro/classics line very soon.
Then you can only get them by subscribing, like Nintendo Online offerings.
Virtual Console and Classics line are basically done. Soon only MS will sell old games.
Re: PS Store Sales Charts: Gran Turismo 7 Laps Elden Ring in Europe as Horizon Falls Off a Cliff
It's interesting to see all these comments...
Almost no one had anything to say about GT7..
Can't wait to see what's next for Elden Ring.
Re: Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition (PS4) - A Shockingly Poor Remaster of a Divisive PS1 RPG
It's interesting that Nintendo Life gave the game a modest like.
Maybe they're just used to crap performance on the Switch?
A video from Digital Foundry on this game and the ports would be hilarious.
Re: Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition (PS4) - A Shockingly Poor Remaster of a Divisive PS1 RPG
Sounds like the Grandia remasters on Switch. Glitchy and semi-broken.

Re: Uncharted Is One of the Highest Grossing Video Game Movies of All Time
I can't really see myself buying Uncharted.
To say it's good by 'game movie' standards, isn't enought.
The off-character casting makes this feel like sneaky cash-in.
Re: Xbox Game Pass Inspired PS Plus Reboot Reveal Rumoured with Splashy Lineup of Games
What some people (like me) wanted, was just BC.
The kind where you put in a PS1/PS2 disc and just play it.
They already did that for PS1 years ago and it was completely legal.

Re: PS Store Sales Charts: Horizon Forbidden West Plays Second Fiddle to Elden Ring
Loving Elden Ring, I'll get to Horizon eventually.
Re: Babylon's Fall (PS5) - This Limp, Confusing 'Service Game' Has Nothing Going for It
I hope the crashing failure of this game and the resounding triumph of Elden Ring teaches the Industry something.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Elden Ring?
It's a huge game with so much to see and do, I'm glad people are loving it.
So many games now are broken & unfinished, nice to see it done right for once.
Re: GTA 5 on PS5 Features Three Visual Modes, Faster Loading, Enhanced Graphics, Much More
If you assume everyone already owns this game, re-buying on PS5 isn't worth it.
You can get Elden Ring at Wal-Mart for $49, that's new and potential GotY material.
Re: Elden Ring: All Stonesword Key Locations
Might need to go back to the Limgrave starter area, the Stone Imp there unlocks a bonus area with a really nice amulet.

PlayStation owners still buy games. I love it!

Is that normal?
Re: Street Fighter 6's Logo Is Basically An Adobe Stock Graphic

Wasn't Capcom also busted for stealing art assets for RE8?

Or is this just everything fixed so far?

Re: Surprise! There's a Brand New Call of Duty Game Launching This Year
Kind sucks that the Industry turns on annualized CoD.
All the big news now is mergers and subscription services.
I'm starting to miss the old days more and more.

Re: Sony Is Spending Over $1 Billion to Ensure Bungie Employees Don't Leave
Push Negativity strikes again...
They want Bungie to help them jumpstart their Games as Service push.
Shareholders love this kind of thing because Fortnite and other BR games.
I'm sure Insomniac got huge bonuses for Metacritic marks and big game sales.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Looks Ridiculous Even on PS4 Pro
Glad to hear this looks great on the Pro, I have no plans to upgrade yet.
My guess is Sony will redesign PS5 for the big PSVR2 launch to come.
I want a smaller unit with less tart, more USBs, and at least 1TB internal SSD.
Re: Uncharted Movie's Final Trailer Is Corny, Compelling
I probably won't see this unless it's free on Plus someday...
Remember when they gave away a season of Powers TV show?
Re: Horizon Forbidden West Is a Whopping 86GB on PS5
Wow, what happened to smaller games due to SSD?
Re: Poll: Does Sony Need to Take Action After Microsoft's Activision Buyout?
Buying Konami would be very beneficial...
New Castlevania, New Silent Hill, New Metal Gear, plus PT Completed.
The fact that Konami stop making games increases the desire for these games.
Buy them out and move the old games to Spartacus, then announce new games.
Re: Sony Is Not Making More PS4s to Make Up for PS5 Stock Shortfall
I read that Sony is only ordering the cheapest slim PS4 for manufacturer.
My guess is they stopped making the Pro unit when PS5 production began.
I'm glad I already had a Pro, so I don't have to rush into these expensive new systems.
Since COVID, used console system prices have skyrocketed (3DS, WiiU, XBO, PS3, Pro).
People are realizing that the old stuff is not being made and the new stuff can't be found.
Re: All These Activision Blizzard Studios Will Likely Cease PlayStation Development
I just need to pickup D2 on sale and then D5 at launch...
Honestly, I feel like Bethesda and Activision had peaked anyway.
COD is like 60% of what Activision shipped over the recent years (I never bought one).
Re: GTA Trilogy Has Done 'Just Great', Exec Says 'Glitch Was Resolved'
The really sad part is they removed the old PS2 games...
For this hot trash train-wreak that isn't a replacement for the old games.
Re: Reaction: Activision Blizzard Buyout Is Devastating for PS5, PS4
Wow, I was expecting Push Square to be more optimistic.
This article reads like an obituary for Sony...I don't agree completely.
COD is ripe for challenge and replacement. Activision is bloated and stale.
When MS bought Rare, they immediately when into lazy sleep mode.
Nintendo could care less, because now they can sell more of their own games.
If Activision is leaving PS, other companies should jump in to fill the viod.
Re: Will Call of Duty and Other Activision Blizzard Games Come to PS5, PS4?
Welcome to the new Cold War.
I'm glad I didn't buy any of these new systems or trade anything older in.
I want to own my games not rent them from a corporate overlord via subscription.
If we don't like what's going on, we need to stop buying any of these new systems.
These buyouts are being used to herds us like cattle, who won't own anything.

Huge mistake by Jim Ryan...nice way to kill an IP.
Instead of a new game, we're getting another remake/remaster...
Re: Review: Zombie Army Trilogy (PlayStation 4)
Picked this up for $4.99 on the end of year sale.
Hopefully, there's still some fun to be had in single player.
