lol, so many are eagerly awaiting another handheld device that Sony will drop support for in a year's time. They'd be idiots not to release a new portable at this point.
Journey's release put ThatGameCompany into bankruptcy, so chances are Sony doesnt want to plan more exclusivity plans with possible struggling indies.
These smaller devs will have a much higher chance of survival if they stick to making games for all and not pandering to one company. That's something AAA does and it rarely pans out for their ultra-expensive games.
"Xbox Live – which extends to phones and Windows computers – has 52 million monthly active users"
It was 55 million this past January and they only counted paying subscribers. Still great news for Sony, they need to focus on turning those into subs though.
While highly unlikely, I wouldn't rule out hearing PS5 rumors by mid-2018, especially depending on how Scorpio shakes out. Despite what their PR says, PS4 Pro may have splintered their market while everyone else is setting up brand new hardware this year.
Microsoft hasn't shown off a console exclusive game in what feels like a long while, so if they plan on a really expensive Scorpio machine selling well, they better show nothing but games at E3.
As for PS4Pro, nothing is going to convince me to upgrade to it. No matter how janky the UI and streaming apps get with every new update.
Considering Sony bought Gaikai for a big chunk of change, I imagine they are paying attention to the Xbox Game Pass.
PSNow is expensive, updated very slowly (if at all), and the stream latency makes them unplayable. You're better off buying a cheap PS3 with the games you want to play.
I know quite a few people (online and irl) that would pay $10 for a month of the Xbox Game Pass just to play through games they missed. Meanwhile, PSNow is $20 a month....
It isnt too surprising. They kept the Decima engine which KojiPro helped work on. Other than the great graphics and a couple of unique weapons, the rest are staples found in other games.
My only (small) gripes are the contextual jumps like in Uncharted and the camera could feel like a clunky TPS at times.
Hitting #2 as a PS4 exclusive with RE7 as competition is great maybe it'll keep up the pace until Zero Dawn releases. I couldnt be happier with Nioh, still trying to figure out which weapon types are best for my playstyle.
It's the same deal they had during the holidays. Sony definitely wants #1 spot in console sales for February
I wouldn't consider this a counter-attack to Switch, but a "we have less sales year-over-year...pop that holiday deal back in!". Switch has an entirely different form factor.
Overall, these are small gains but definitely welcome. A lot of previously released PS4 games didnt have the best performance.
The thing is, those are games I don't really see a need in returning to. They were technically supposed to play this way the first time around. Always good to have options though.
I may be picking up a PS4Pro over the weekend since my current PS4 isnt cutting it. The share button has some problems and something is definitely wrong with the storage.
I'm guessing there'll be more events like the chocobo festival.
Anyway, I won't be hopping back on FFXV. Not interested in having to play through linear hallways a second time because they somehow can't tell a cohesive story in 2017. The DLC also stinks of being cut from the main story.
Nioh, Horizon, and Persona5 are what I'll be playing. FFXV is just a jumbled memory at this point.
Hey, it runs games like they shoud've on release, that's one sort of good reason to get a Pro eventually.
I dont know, seems like a needless distraction when so many great games are releasing in the next 4-5 months. I read about PS4Pro and the---NIOH is releasing next week! Horizon is close! Nier is close! Persona5 is close!---what's a PS4Pro again??
Sounds like the beginnings of the usual Sony strategy. If it isnt flying off the shelves worldwide and is sold at a loss, time to keep production low. Then if it gains no traction, time to drop support.
Nintendo's reason for not meeting demand is usually because their products fly off the shelves as soon as their re-stocked.
Yes! After not hearing about this one for so long I thought it was stuck in development hell. It's back to being one of my most anticipated PS4 games, mostly because it's pushing the envelope a bit.
I think it's worth sticking to first person view, but only if they improve it significantly. A bigger Field of View and straying further away from the whole Outlast/Alien: Isolation feel would do wonders.
Judging by the linked article, it's a mixed bag of news. It's great that Sony won out top console sales for November-December NPDs, but no year-over-year growth when they released a Slim console, PSVR, and a Pro console is not good.
Meanwhile, XBO did gain year-over-year growth (clearly, since XBO wasnt doing well before mid-2016) thanks to 4 months of topping NPD sales.
I'm more interested in seeing how software like FFXV performed.
Nintendo turned its hardware into a completely different beast, they arent shooting for the PS4 market or 4K HDR gaming. So I think they're fine with Horizon's release date staying where it is.
@get2sammyb You're completely right, IW for over 60% off so close to release is insane. I really don't know how 3rd-party devs will be able to keep up without season passes or heavy microtransactions.
@iceclimbers If it were my game, I'd prefer the Nintendo strategy. Making games is really hard work, developers put in a lot of effort in this industry and it should be rewarded with full-price sales. Instead, It's a quantity-over-quality situation and I don't think it's going to pan out well.
With Steam and other digital game stores having the power to discount games often and making buttloads of cash doing it, console makers and publishers wanted to get in on that cash-in. By summer 2016, they caught up with the big PC stores. Nearly weekly flash sales with many of the same titles discounted at different ranges started popping up on XBL and PSN.
Soon we'll see brand new games releasing at a discount depending on store...which kind of already happens with the bestbuy gamers club and amazon prime.
I Am Setsuna was great as an RPG throwback game, it reminded me why I found them so interesting in the first place and kinda rekindled my love for gaming.
Uncharted 4 is awesome, just started this one before New Years and it's been a blast. It went above and beyond Rise of the Tomb Raider for me.
And I didnt expect to like Ratchet & Clank as much as I do, another game I got before New Years and am currently playing through.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: PS4 Suffers Another Sales Dip During Post-Holiday Period
15 of the top 20....four of them are multi-million sellers. Their NPD sales are great too, Nintendo is making a killing
Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Golden Week Winds Up Weak
Nintendomination lol
Those PS4Pro sales are pretty down there...will we see a PS4Pro-Pro at E3
Re: Review: Dreamfall Chapters (PS4)
Bleh, I'm glad they arent using the telltale template, which is essentially "make fake choices that lead to the same outcome."
Re: Resident Evil: Code Veronica X Stealth Launches on PS4 Next Week
Was expecting this to be a remaster, don't really care to re-purchase the PS2 Classic or PS3 re-release.
Re: PS5 Could Launch As Early As Next Year, Reckons Analyst

Re: Poll: Has Persona 5 Been Worth the Hype?
Out of all the recent PS4 games releasing, this is the one that is getting me into impulse-buy mode.
Re: Surprise! PS4 Wins the February NPD Report
But of course, PS4 currently has a hell of a release schedule. XBO seems to have stopped trying.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Horizon: Zero Dawn Beats Zelda to Summit
Sweet, great sales for a new IP. The three day sales lead definitely paid off.
Re: Talking Point: Are You Enjoying Horizon: Zero Dawn on PS4?
I'm not sure yet. On one hand, the map is absolutely beautiful to run around in and the combat gets intense.
On the other hand, it feels a lot like a 3rd person Far Cry and having to scavenge the same animals for rare items kinda sucks.
Re: NieR: Automata Has Some Performance Issues on Both PS4 and PS4 Pro
"The standard PS4 comes off worse, but the Pro also has its ups and downs"
Well that's a big problem for me. Was going to get it near release but that makes it easy for me to wait this game out.
I noticed the UI looks almost exactly like MGR lol.

Re: Poll: Are You Buying Horizon: Zero Dawn?
I'm waiting until less games are coming out, just too much going on in the near future.
Re: Soapbox: Photo Mode Is a Big Part of Horizon: Zero Dawn's Fun
Mmmm, those are beautiful. I usually use Photo Mode to catalogue my playthrough. It's like family photo albums but for games
Re: Wowza, NieR: Automata Has Some Sweet Looking Weapons
Mmmm, this game is bringing the frantic action hype. My PS4 will be nothing but a Nioh + Nier machine for the next couple months.
Re: Round Up: Horizon: Zero Dawn PS4 Reviews Reveal Sony's Next Big Thing
Let's wait for sales, that's what determines the next big thing
Re: Combat in Mass Effect: Andromeda Looks Like a Huge Step Forward For the Series
Locked at 30fps completely kills me wanting it on consoles, but boy does the combat look awesome at 60fps.
Re: Crash Bandicoot PS4 Release Date Teased for Tomorrow
Eugh, I didnt know Activision were the ones publishing this game. But while the remaster looks sorta weird to me, more Crash is never a bad thing.
I'm just going to guess a broad summer release.
Re: Free-to-Play Action MMO Skyforge Is Questing to PS4 This Spring
Kinda reminds me of Phantasy Star Online, I dig it.
Re: Diablo-Like Action RPG Vikings - Wolves of Midgard Sails to PS4 Next Month
It's specifically 2-player online co-op, which kills it for me. Besides that, looks pretty bland.
Would love to see another Champions of Norrath or Dark Alliance style beat-em-up, these diablo-likes look too similar.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Grand Theft Auto V Stabs Nioh in the Back
Hitting #2 as a PS4 exclusive with RE7 as competition is great maybe it'll keep up the pace until Zero Dawn releases. I couldnt be happier with Nioh, still trying to figure out which weapon types are best for my playstyle.
the next 4 weeks will be gaming bliss
Re: NieR Automata's Just Another PS4 Exclusive You're Going to Have to Buy
Didn't really dig the bullet hell mash-up so that'll be a wait-and-see for me.
Nioh and Horizon are going to eat all of my Sony playtime. Then the Switch will happen and I'll be hibernating til June
Re: Poll: Are You Enjoying Nioh on PS4?
Yup, I'm enjoying it immensely. So much content and the ki pulse-based combat is hella fun.
A great evolution of Demon's Souls and Onimusha.
Re: Nioh Stock Is Already a Little Light on the Ground
It deserves to sell like mad. Personally, the best PS4 game that's released yet, with UC4 very close behind.
A few friends bought PS4s just for Nioh. Real 10/10 material with actual content and replay value in the base game.
Re: PS4 Bundle Prices Plunge Ahead of Nintendo Switch

Re: PS4 Was January's Best Selling Console in the United States
Nice. I'd sooner peg January PS4 sales on the February line-up. Nioh and Horizon are definitely system sellers.

Re: Uncharted 4 Is Still Winning Awards
Absolutely deserved. Easily my favorite PS4.....nah, screw that. Easily my favorite game of 2016.

Re: UK Sales Charts: 73% of Resident Evil 7's Retail Copies Sold on PS4
Whoa, with GTAV at second place it makes me wonder what the actual sales numbers for the top5 are.
Re: Promising PS4 Exclusive WiLD Wanders Out of the Wilderness
Yes! After not hearing about this one for so long I thought it was stuck in development hell. It's back to being one of my most anticipated PS4 games, mostly because it's pushing the envelope a bit.
Re: Poll: Should Resident Evil Remain First-Person for Now?
@glyncr that's 2.5 million copies shipped to retailers, not sold.
Re: Ni no Kuni II Combat System Detailed, Gets New Screenshots and a Worldwide Launch
Nice! I can't wait to hop into another Ni No Kuni game.
Re: Poll: Should Resident Evil Remain First-Person for Now?
I think it's worth sticking to first person view, but only if they improve it significantly. A bigger Field of View and straying further away from the whole Outlast/Alien: Isolation feel would do wonders.
Re: PS4 Pro Is a 'Half-Assed Upgrade' Compared to Scorpio, Says Xbox Dev
I wouldn't say it's unprofessional, just a developers opinion. I agree with him, PS4Pro doesnt feel like much of an upgrade.
Re: PS4 Software Sales Exceed 400 Million, Console Sales Reach 53.4 million
I thought the Wii's attach rate was at 8.something around 3 or 4 years ago, and apparently not including eShop sales.
Re: PS4 Wins the All-Important December NPD
Judging by the linked article, it's a mixed bag of news. It's great that Sony won out top console sales for November-December NPDs, but no year-over-year growth when they released a Slim console, PSVR, and a Pro console is not good.

Re: Poll: What's Your Most Anticipated PS4 Game of 2017?
I picked Nioh, but Persona5 and UC: Lost Legacy are titles I'm anticipating too.
Re: Feature: The Promising PS4 Games of January 2017
Oddly enough, I'm not interested in buying any of these games. Looking forward to what folks say about RE7 though.

Re: Game of the Year 2016: #1 - Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
I'm in the middle of UC4s campaign and have to agree, definitely the best PS4 game of 2016.
