@Col_McCafferty God of War and Horizon aren't coming to Xbox either. Xbox puts their exclusives on PC also, but you already know this. So I'm not sure why you think Sony is the only one being generous, which is a strange word to use. Seems they are taking steps to adapt to a changing market.
Surprised they are wrapping it up in 2 games instead of 3, or sad maybe. I really like the Norse setting. Wasn't there speculation that they were thinking about Egypt next?
@ATaco
Don't a lot of indies continue to sell exponentially better on Switch? Devs seem to prioritize Switch as a platform in a lot of cases. People think it's a great platform for indies like the Vita used to be. Maybe it's as simple as the portability of the Switch. I'm not sure, but it seems like something more to me than the sales tactic you are suggesting.
This article has great constructive criticism. Indie game quality is the best it's ever been. Sony needs to uplift these developers, it will only make their platform stronger.
@Jaz007 So you're saying game design should have a universal language like math? I guess where you lose me is - do you think Super Mario Bros. games should have continued to all be side scrollers? Is Mario Odyssey not a Mario game? I think you are taking a hard line on what you believe an Assassin's Creed game should be, which is fine, I often don't like change myself. But for better or worse, they are now following the formula they set up with Origins. That is Assassin's Creed now.
@Jaz007 I'm not sure what innovation means to you, but it means to make change in something already established, which is precisely what they did. Innovation isn't always necessarily a good thing. You're contradicting yourself by arguing they slapped the AC name on 'new' unrelated RPG stuff, then later claim they are just using the brand name instead of trying something 'new'. They did exactly what you are claiming they did not. By your own words isn't the new RPG stuff trying something new?
@Jaz007 They call it a change in direction because they changed the formula significantly with Origins. You can not like it and say why not call it a new series at that point, but I think from the publisher perspective they need to innovate to continue to sell AC games at such a large number. @Kopite provided a great illustration of this. He was tired of the old formula, but is really enjoying one of the newer ones, and may be more interested in later iterations.
@zupertramp Questioning these numbers is fine, but everyone thinks in extremes today. "Shock and awe! Disgusting! I'm so disappointed!" Most women I know - friends, family, coworkers aren't console gamers. Most are mobile gamers or don't game at all. I think the idea of more young female console gamers definitely has merit, and regardless of whether the 41% figure is accurate, they certainly want to project that to grow the market.
Most looking forward to Zombie Army 4. I was introduced to Rebellion games with a previous PS Plus title Sniper Elite 4. Really enjoy their shooting mechanics. I've already played through Days Gone, my only platinum, and I loved it.
@GREGORIAN
"e.g. It would be nice to have Deus Ex or Thief or Dishonored, but it really does not feel like a loss to not have them. By the way I have not played those game this Gen and I don't feel like I missed out on anything special."
Whatever floats your boat I guess. I'd rather have another Deus Ex or Dishonored than any of those live service games you listed before it.
Also, I just don't understand how people continue to be so dismissive about Zenimax game properties. True not all of their properties sell 10 + million. However, Skyrim has sold over 30 million. Fallout 3 and 4 have both sold over 10 million. Doom Eternal sold 3 million in a week. Elder Scrolls Online has 15 million subscribers. It's not nothing, but people try so hard to portray it in a negative light.
I would expect it to be larger than 7 just based on that it's an entire castle to explore and a surrounding village. I agree with what people are saying about longer doesn't always mean better, but I don't expect Village to turn into the size of AC: Valhalla. Also RE 6 had a lot more issues than its length, it wasn't a bad game only because of that.
@GREGORIAN Aren't you ignoring Microsoft's multi-platform strategy though? You're right that Series X will likely never sell on the same level as PS5, but those PC copies sold you mention - Microsoft gets that money too. They seem to be heavily focused on offering their games to the widest player base that they can including phones, which games seem to make stupid amounts of money on. It's why Fortnite and COD are on phones. I don't have Game Pass, but I hear nothing but positive things about it.
Also, in this economy $500 for either new console will be a lot more attractive to some than $650 for a PC graphics card.
@TheUltimateTruth101 Won't Sony continue to make acquisitions to make up these gaps you are talking about? You're also heavily discounting the first party studios they do have. These fights always ignore the wealth of indies and smaller titles across all platforms that are arguably just as important. They fill in the gaps while people wait for the next big budget blockbuster, and are honestly better than those AAA games sometimes in my opinion. Like the content streaming wars you likely can't get all the content you want on one gaming platform if you are a gaming enthusiast.
@marnelljm Disagree. So many lists are just the same AAA games over and over again. I enjoy learning about other titles that people have enjoyed that didn't cost tens of millions of dollars to make.
I always find these personal lists more interesting than site employees voting or arguing on one top 10 list. Really want to try Ion Fury and Kentucky Route zero on PS4 from this list, and Astro whenever I get a PS5.
@nessisonett Similar feelings here, it's oversaturation for me. As a fan of Deus Ex games and cyberpunk in general I was excited from the very first teaser trailer 7-8 years ago. But that was before CD Projekt Red released the Witcher 3 and became a much bigger name. Now it seems it's one of the most anticipated games ever, something I was not expecting back then.
I'm taking a wait and see approach for both, and playing my PS4 for now.
I find it eyeroll inducing how dismissive people are of the Zenimax acquisition though.
@Robocod All executives are double talking hypocrites. I guess I don't analyze to your extent. I just see one guy that seems like he's having fun, hangs out on couches at E3 for interviews and Jim Ryan, who seems like any other executive. But whatever, it's not really important.
@Flaming_Kaiser If it makes you feel any better Dishonored was supposedly brought to a close with Death of the Outsider. Unless MS is planning on resurrecting it, you may not be missing out.
@Flaming_Kaiser Spiderman is a great game, but it feels like you're using it to try to diminish the value of the Zenimax acquisition. Which is just silly.
@Iroha Who are both now owned by Microsoft? What are you getting at. Also not every game is for everyone, but Skyrim sold something like 20 million copies. Clearly a lot of people care.
@Robocod I mean, he's an executive yeah, but I think Phil gets a bad rap. I like him better than most people in his position. He's certainly more charismatic than Jim Ryan. Seems like he actually plays games also.
It's amusing reading posts calling for human decency and to just be nice, and the same poster calling people bigoted idiots and another labelling someone a sack of ****. Delicious irony.
