Re: Naughty Dog Responds to Sexual Harassment Allegations

tabris95

Not that it really matters, but I'd be very curious to know the gender of the alleged harasser. It's so rare for male victims of any kind of sexual harassment to come forward about it, and seemingly even more rare to hear about instances where the harasser is a woman. Either way I think as long as these allegations are true, it's great that Ballard is speaking up about his experiences and I hope others in this situation so the same.

Re: Soapbox: Why PS4's Big 2017 Titles Handle Female Leads the Right Way

tabris95

So legitimate question here. Why does no one ever mention Jodie from Beyond Two Souls during these conversations? Sure I get that David Cage gets a lot of flack here on this site, but I still think that Jodie was an amazing female lead regardless. She did extraordinary things that only she could have done and learns to accept that responsibility, but also did simple things any good person could have done, all while struggling to just be normal and experience life like anyone else. On top of that, they also have her go through experiences that are more in line with her gender like being called a slut at a party or nearly being raped in a seedy bar because she went in alone (which later develops as post traumatic stress). I felt that she was portrayed very well.

Re: Two Brand New Persona Dancing Games Announced for PS4, Vita

tabris95

Yeah I put like 25-30 hours into Persona 5 and felt like it wasn't going anywhere. Likewise, I got SMT IV Apocalypse and started that out of curiosity and was blown away by just how much better the pacing is. The opening hour is also one of the strongest I've seen in an RPG period and now I'm on the final dungeon at 55+ hours with every intention of playing the other route to get the second ending. Sometimes less is more.

Re: Lost Sphear Brings More Turn Based JRPG Action to PS4 in Early 2018

tabris95

Yeah I don't know. Visually it looks nice for a classic styled game, but if that trailer is anything to go by, I'm a bit worried about the quality of writing.
"With all our strength combined, it's time...It's time to wake up the world."
"The beautiful cold moon must shine upon fate."
A bit cheesy isn't it? Either these are poorly translated or the game is just going for a completely melodramatic tone and neither of those impress me.

Re: Final Fantasy XV's Free Power Ranger Suits Make You Invincible for 30 Minutes

tabris95

@FullbringIchigo Anyway, it's not the combat that was going to make Final Fantasy stale. Look at Dragon Quest, Pokémon, SMT, even the Tales series. All of these series change up their combat and mechanics very little and ALL of them do very well among their fan base. There's consistency and identity there. Fans know what they're getting there. Aside from moody protagonists with amazing hair, fans of Final Fantasy don't know what they're getting anymore. And I'm not just talking about combat. Narrative structure, gameplay, writing quality, composers, none of it has been consistent since the PlayStation era. That's why even though these games might be enjoyable to someone, odds are you're going to find more criticism among Final Fantasy fans.

Re: Final Fantasy XV's Free Power Ranger Suits Make You Invincible for 30 Minutes

tabris95

@FullbringIchigo Honestly Square has been getting a lot of flack for the last 10 years ever since they started putting out lower quality games, so I don't think I'd use the word's "right now". If you grew up in the SNES and PlayStation era of Squaresoft, then it's easier to understand what people mean. Shortly after their merger with Enix, they became so focused on making money and expanding their company that they just started releasing whatever they thought would make them money and lost sight of what made their games great in the first place. They put out games we didn't ask for like Dirge Of Cerberus, Final Fantasy VII everything, and the many, many Kingdom Hearts side games that only hurt both of those brands. Then there were the half hearted releases like The Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery, Dawn of Mana and Heroes of Mana, The Third Birthday, and the last two Star Ocean games. It was a long string of disappointment. Then we see Square-Enix shift focus a bit with the XIII Trilogy, Type-0, Bravely Default, and World Of Final Fantasy and now XV. And are these games enjoyable? Sure. But do they have the charming characters, well written stories and unforgettable moments of their past games that could really invest a player? Not even close.

Re: Guide: Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age Jobs - The Job System and Choosing Jobs

tabris95

@ShogunRok Oh, one more question. I always had a problem with damage dealing through Magick in the original towards late game. Basically casting time and spell animation coupled with a damage cap of 9999 meant that my spells were always less efficient than using melee weapons that could land multiple hits all at the damage cap of 9999. Now that your characters get locked into their Jobs, is it worth having a Magick damage dealer, or will they just fall off and become less effective later?

Re: Hands On: Final Fantasy XII on PS4 Is a Strong Reminder of How Great the Series Used to Be

tabris95

Honestly after getting a bit older and playing a large variety of JRPGs, I've found that the Final Fantasy series has never been that challenging, the stories never that interesting, and the characters never that well written. And I'm saying that as someone who loves VII, VIII, IX, and X. Suikoden does a better political story, Persona has a much more well written cast, mainline SMT and it's offshoots have a far grander sense of scale, difficulty and some even bring in meaningful player choice. Xeno-series has stronger Sci-fi elements and world building, and even Trails and Tales Of can do most of what I've said above with a nice anime flavor for those who like that sort of thing. What I'm saying is how good really was the Final Fantasy series and where does it belong among all these other stellar JRPG series?

Re: Review: Tekken 7 (PS4)

tabris95

How many Characters were added? How many are there total now? Does everyone feel balanced in such a large line up? Can I play as Tiger?? Are there still super silly and out of place ending videos for certain characters? Is there an absurd amount of cosmetic items that range from cool to ridiculous?? These are the things I need to know about my Tekken games!!

Re: Naughty Dog's Four Jak & Daxter Titles Are Coming to PS4

tabris95

Ok silly question. I haven't played any of these. What are they like? I always imagined they were kind of like an evolution of Banjo-Kazooie but just never got to playing them. I got the PS4 reboot of Ratchet & Clank but felt a bit underwhelmed. Should I be interested in any of these games or just be happy I'm getting Yooka-Laylee real soon?

Re: Video: Does Yooka-Laylee Delight on the PS4?

tabris95

Thank you so much for this video. I really hope you don't end up regretting putting it up lol. I backed this so I'll be feverishly playing it regardless but consider the lines thoroughly read between for this video. Sounds like they were accurate to a fault when recreating the N64 era design philosophy and that's going to limit it's accessibility a lot for anyone that isn't picking this up out of sheer nostalgia for classics like Banjo-Kazooie simply because these design choices and formula have been improved upon since the 90s. Luckily for me, Banjo-Kazooie is still one of my favorite games and I can't wait!

Re: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time Director's Cut Announced for PS4

tabris95

Okay so please don't hate me but I'm pretty sure this game hasn't aged very well. Is an HD remaster really a good call? This kind of came out during a time when voice acting standards were very low and the anime and JRPG community were clamoring for any generic JRPG that sported blue hair on the cover. I can see why they would remaster Final Fantasy XII but not this.

Re: Review: Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4)

tabris95

Have a lot in my backlog that I'm working on right now but I do have both this and Zelda: Breath of the Wild coming day one. So the real question for me is which one do I play first? They're both open world RPGs after all.

Re: Some of These Plans for Final Fantasy XV Sound Insane

tabris95

@kyleforrester87 I mean, additional content is always nice and appreciated, but things like character development and motivations as well as pacing for the final chapters should have been ironed out before hand. What I'm saying is you only get to experience the game for the first time once and some of what's being patched shouldn't have had to be patched.

Re: Some of These Plans for Final Fantasy XV Sound Insane

tabris95

Too little too late. This is why you finish games before releasing them. Most of their most loyal fan base already completed the game. No amount of patches and DLC is going to fix the first time experience for most of the people it actually matters to, the longtime fans that waited 10 years for a game that released unfinished.

Re: Review: God Eater 2: Rage Burst (PS4)

tabris95

Umm. Literally the first thing I did after making my character was access the in game archive and watched the video tutorial for performing the Long Blade's Zero-Stance. There's tutorial videos for all kinds of advanced tactics to help you master the combat.
