Re: Hands On: No Man's Sky PS4 Is As Bemusing As It Is Beautiful

Pretty boring so far to be honest. Yes the lack of a proper tutorial can be frustrating and will bother some more than others, but it's the lack of narrative, direction, and purpose that really gets to me. Outside of collecting materials so you can move on to the next area to collect more materials, there doesn't seem to be a lot to do and that just isn't engaging at all to me. Obviously I haven't played a lot and I hope it opens up more options to dig into but right now I'd rather play a game like Xenoblade Chronicles X and explore one amazing planet with tons to do, than this with billions of boring planets with barely anything in them.

Re: Review: Oxenfree (PS4)

Looks like someone put their vocabulary to use for this review. This game was patched just in time for the PS4 release right? I heard it was supposed to include more endings and something akin to a new game plus mode. I don't know if I'm right but I would have loved to see it mentioned in this review as well as just replayability in general.

Re: We're Not Entirely Sold on Star Ocean 5's English Dub

tabris95

You guys are funny. This is the Final Fantasy X Tidus laugh scene all over again. Most of those voice actors are seasoned pros and know what they are doing. Crispin Freeman is extremely passionate about voice acting. There's a difference between poor acting and a poor script. These actors can't help if they were told to deliver it this way. So guess what? If you don't like this dub, you probably don't like cheesey Shonen anime dubs either, because this is more or less what this game is aiming to be, because let's face it, Star Ocean has always been Square Enix's Tales of franchise.

Re: Beyond: Two Souls Ghosts to PS4 Next Week

@DualWielding I believe it was an intentional choice to attempt to immerse the player and have them feel the same frustration as Jodie over the lack of control over her life. It was an important theme. Telling the story out of chronological order also allowed for the dev team to sprinkle in action and grand set pieces in places they wouldn't normally be in order to help the pacing. There is actually a video on YouTube that plays through the entire game in chronological order and the first like 3 hours of it are super boring because all of the big momemts happen much later in her life. So the game was never meant to be about choice but more about what it's like to be Jodie and live her messed up life.

Re: Review: Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea (PlayStation 3)

This reminds me of the PS2 NISA game Ar Tonelico 2 where spots were left untranslated as well as a game breaking glitch where a major plot boss at the very end of the game would crash your game if he performed a certain attack that he is guaranteed to do in about 5 turns or less, a glitch that was suspiciously nowhere to be found in the original Japanese game, even though NISA themselves said it wasn't from their end. Great job NISA! at least this bug can be patched unlike in the PS2 era. :/

Re: Who Would Win Wednesdays: Yu Narukami vs. Squall Leonhart

tabris95

On the battle expertise side of things, Yu is an inexperienced teenager who got his start fighting with a golf club. I'll give that one to Squall. On the sommoning side of things however.... Yu's got Lucifer. I kinda feel like it would be silly for Lucifer to lose out to any Final Fantasy summon by default. I'm actually ok with either winning this fight. Good match up.
