Square Enix has today announced a HD port of the tri-Ace developed title Star Ocean: Till the End of Time for PlayStation 4. The so-called Director's Cut is an enhanced version of the PS2 original which will run the game at a full-1080p resolution, boasting various graphical improvements to create a more visually alluring experience.
Star Ocean: Till The End of Time Director's Cut is currently in development, and no release date has yet been given. However, we're told that it will be a digital-only release, and that it'll feature Trophy support as well as share and remote play functionality. Check out the video above to see some gameplay footage from Square's Star Ocean: Anamnesis live stream at around the 1 hour and 15 minutes mark.
Till the End of Time is this particular author's favourite entry into the Star Ocean series, so the excitement is palpable over here - but how do you feel about this release? Did you play the original? Are you happy to see it come to PS4? Dive into the great Star Ocean in the comments section below.

Sounds great. Wish it had a physical version though
Wasn't expecting that. Interesting.
This is great news! I was hoping it would come out as a ps2 game playable on the PS4 for ages. It's not a remaster but definitely more than what I hoped for.
YEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
Nice! The only Star Ocean game I actually was interested in back then. I'll probably pick it up if they do it justice as a remaster.
Ooo tempted by this. After playing the 4th game always wanted to delve deeper into the series. Lets hope squenix finds some way of legally playing the first two.
I find I'm increasingly wanting more rereleases on ps4. Hoping this console library will last a long time
Well I missed all these and always regretted it so I'm interested enough
I've only played the first two and I really liked them. How do they compare to this one? I feel like I heard weird things about this one which is what pushed me away. Haven't played a star ocean since.
Yass my endless tweets to Sony helped
sweet, now i can replace my broken PS2 version without having to pay loads because of scalpers
Hope it'll come over seas. Then again, Star Ocean 2 ps4 was also made and it didn't get a localization so I have a few doubts.
Very nice! It's a solid game
Oh yes! I bought myself a PS2 copy some years ago but found out the hard way that both the disc and the system need to be pretty much in mint condition for the game to run, because the game uses some fancy, smancy loading technique or whatever. Because both my PS2 was old and the disc was used the loading tiimes went up to 2 minutes sometimes, making it pretty much unplayable.
I would be so happy to finally really get to play this, because from what I did play, it seemed very solid.
Okay so please don't hate me but I'm pretty sure this game hasn't aged very well. Is an HD remaster really a good call? This kind of came out during a time when voice acting standards were very low and the anime and JRPG community were clamoring for any generic JRPG that sported blue hair on the cover. I can see why they would remaster Final Fantasy XII but not this.
I welcome this. I've been wanting to get into the series more after playing Last Hope on 360 & PS3.
Finally! The Last Hope remaster would be very welcome as well, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Still, Star Ocean is an amazing series.
Great! Never played it and i like the SO universe.
58:19 in the video...Japan in a nutshell lol
I remember replaying this at some point during the last generation. The characters' heads looks awful now. Like those big plastic anime heads people wear at conventions sometimes. The game itself is amazing, though.
It has the very rare thing for a JRPG where certain party members are missable. This was also the case in SO2 and maybe SO1, I can't remember. There's a complexity that seems to be lacking from JRPGs in more recent times, especially stuff like FFXV which is basically just a clunky action game with a few RPG elements here and there (often bad ones like fetch quests). You felt like you were learning new things all the time, both about gameplay systems, about the characters and about the story.
Sadly they've not been able to recapture the same magic with SO4 and 5. I've been playing 5 recently and while I liked it at first, the story still hasn't got going by about the 15 hour mark, it's quite flat and dull. It'll be good to go back to SO3 after the last two.
