Re: Talking Point: In Theory, Could Xbox Game Pass Come to PS5, PS4?

jcordeiro

I could see some sort of modified, and potentially cheaper, version of Gamepass on PS4/PS5 that only included Microsoft's first-party exclusive games. Though, with the way Sony is, I could see them not even allowing that unless all the games are properly ported to PS4/PS5 with support for trophies.

I'm hard-pressed to imagine Sony allowing a version of Gamepass on their consoles that includes third-party games and denies them their traditional 30% cut of the sales.

Re: Death Stranding Director's Cut Dated for 24th September

With these sort of upgrades I really feel like the update to take advantage for the PS5 hardware should be free for people who already purchased the original game. It feels kind of like double-dipping, and doesn't come off well when Xbox's "smart delivery" essentially gives these sort of updates for free.

With that being said, I think charging for the new content feels fair, both here and with Ghost of Tsushima.

Re: Reaction: E3 Is a Relic Desperately Clinging to Relevancy

jcordeiro

Sadly, I have to agree. E3 used to be an exciting time of the year to look forward to, when all of the big guns in the industry came together to reveal what they had coming down the line.

In the current day and age though, it's unnecessary. Companies can command an audience nearly anytime of the year. We've seen Nintendo do this for the last little while their Directs.

When you have companies feel like they need to show what they have at this arbitrary "event" you end up with things like Gearbox's presentation.

Re: Reaction: Xbox Game Pass Is the Thorn in PS5's Side

jcordeiro

I rate it 'good'.

They didn't waste too much time and let the games do the talking. The non-stop trailer, trailer, gameplay, trailer format works, very reminiscent of a few of Sony's E3 press conferences from a few years ago.

Overall though, not enough gameplay shown. Also thought it's kind of odd for them to spend so much time on Forza Horizon 5 compared to Halo Infinite (which still doesn't have a solid date). The big thing though is knowing that almost every game revealed is coming to Game Pass, which changes the feeling from "Hey, here's the cool things you can buy for our console coming down the line" to "Hey, here's all these cool things you're just going to get at no extra cost if you already subscribe". The Game Pass bombardment is something Sony just simply can't match, and something I don't think Microsoft can keep up at the current rate in perpetuity, but we'll see.

If I didn't (foolishly) care so much about trophies, I'd be all over Xbox and Game Pass. As a consumer its value is undeniable.

Re: Talking Point: Did Sony Lie About PS5?

jcordeiro

"Lie" is a pretty strong word, but if their intention the entire time was to have these first-party games also be developed for PS4 then they definitely mislead everyone.

The argument that supply is low and people can't find a console is a lame excuse. There are more PS5s out there now than there were PS4s at this same point in time.

I understand that there's a lot of PS4s out there, and don't expect Sony to pretend it doesn't exist anymore, but their first-party resources have to move on eventually. There was certainly a lot of PS3s sold by the time PS4 came around.

Re: Sony Confirms PS3, PS Vita, PSP Store Closures, Downloads Will Be Retained

jcordeiro

I understand the need to close those older stores down eventually, particularly PSP and PS3, but Sony should have given more of a heads up. At least 12 months, at the very least.

I think the Vita closure is premature though, as there are still some games actively being developed and released. I've always loved the Vita. August 27th will be a sad day.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy a PS1, PS2, or PS3 Emulator for PS5?

jcordeiro

This would certainly be better than what they have now, but I feel like if Sony announced this they would just get raked over the coals online. It wouldn't compare well to Xbox's already superior, and most importantly, free, backwards-compatibility offerings.

My personal preference would be for the emulators to be free and the games available for purchase digitally on the PS Store.

Re: Sony Launching New PS Store on Web and Mobile This Month

jcordeiro

I certainly hope they mean that only PSP, PS3, and Vita titles are being removed from wishlists and not all wishlists entirely.

I have 50+ games wishlisted on the web store and use it as an easy way to find if games I'm interested in are included in any of the current sales.
