I could see some sort of modified, and potentially cheaper, version of Gamepass on PS4/PS5 that only included Microsoft's first-party exclusive games. Though, with the way Sony is, I could see them not even allowing that unless all the games are properly ported to PS4/PS5 with support for trophies.
I'm hard-pressed to imagine Sony allowing a version of Gamepass on their consoles that includes third-party games and denies them their traditional 30% cut of the sales.
Upgraded from PS4. Loved it, and ended up putting in over 100 hours to get the Platinum. Not sure if I'll get around it anytime soon, but wanted to buy it anyway and support this wonderful game.
Well said. If Sony has the confidence to lay silent while the entire industry keeps showing up to events like E3, then when they finally call our attention they have to deliver.
Keeping my expectations in check, but excited to see what they finally have to show us.
I've heard nothing but fantastic things about this game. Backlog is a bit big right now, so have lots of things to play, so will likely jump in once it's on sale.
With these sort of upgrades I really feel like the update to take advantage for the PS5 hardware should be free for people who already purchased the original game. It feels kind of like double-dipping, and doesn't come off well when Xbox's "smart delivery" essentially gives these sort of updates for free.
With that being said, I think charging for the new content feels fair, both here and with Ghost of Tsushima.
Sadly, I have to agree. E3 used to be an exciting time of the year to look forward to, when all of the big guns in the industry came together to reveal what they had coming down the line.
In the current day and age though, it's unnecessary. Companies can command an audience nearly anytime of the year. We've seen Nintendo do this for the last little while their Directs.
When you have companies feel like they need to show what they have at this arbitrary "event" you end up with things like Gearbox's presentation.
They didn't waste too much time and let the games do the talking. The non-stop trailer, trailer, gameplay, trailer format works, very reminiscent of a few of Sony's E3 press conferences from a few years ago.
Overall though, not enough gameplay shown. Also thought it's kind of odd for them to spend so much time on Forza Horizon 5 compared to Halo Infinite (which still doesn't have a solid date). The big thing though is knowing that almost every game revealed is coming to Game Pass, which changes the feeling from "Hey, here's the cool things you can buy for our console coming down the line" to "Hey, here's all these cool things you're just going to get at no extra cost if you already subscribe". The Game Pass bombardment is something Sony just simply can't match, and something I don't think Microsoft can keep up at the current rate in perpetuity, but we'll see.
If I didn't (foolishly) care so much about trophies, I'd be all over Xbox and Game Pass. As a consumer its value is undeniable.
"Lie" is a pretty strong word, but if their intention the entire time was to have these first-party games also be developed for PS4 then they definitely mislead everyone.
The argument that supply is low and people can't find a console is a lame excuse. There are more PS5s out there now than there were PS4s at this same point in time.
I understand that there's a lot of PS4s out there, and don't expect Sony to pretend it doesn't exist anymore, but their first-party resources have to move on eventually. There was certainly a lot of PS3s sold by the time PS4 came around.
Visually stunning! Didn't feel like it was "held back" at all by also being on last-gen consoles. I guess we'll see what this will look like on PS4 by comparison.
I always make my purchases using the web store and barely ever use the PS Store on consoles.
One of the major reasons for this was the web store's wishlist functionality, which they've since added to PS5, which let me see if any particular games I was interested in were on sale.
I understand the need to close those older stores down eventually, particularly PSP and PS3, but Sony should have given more of a heads up. At least 12 months, at the very least.
I think the Vita closure is premature though, as there are still some games actively being developed and released. I've always loved the Vita. August 27th will be a sad day.
This would certainly be better than what they have now, but I feel like if Sony announced this they would just get raked over the coals online. It wouldn't compare well to Xbox's already superior, and most importantly, free, backwards-compatibility offerings.
My personal preference would be for the emulators to be free and the games available for purchase digitally on the PS Store.
I kind of "retired" the PS4 for now as I've been waiting for PS5 and don't want to be in between games when it launches. So I've been working my way through Danganronpa 2 on Vita in the meantime.
Interesting that Sony is deciding to go big with hands-on coverage in the Japanese market as we see Xbox sending Series X units to gaming media personalities here in the USA.
When PS4 launched Sony clearly prioritized the North American market, not even launching the console in Japan until 3 months later.
Having "remasters" of games from the PS4/XB1 generation is going to be tough to explain from a marketing angle when the newer consoles are supposed to be backwards compatible.
Just wrapped up replaying through The Last of Us in anticipation of part II.
Tried to pick something small to playthrough that I'll be able to finish by this Friday and I'm currently playing through Astro Bot Rescue Mission. Really loving it so far!

Re: Apex Legends Dev Respawn Making Three Star Wars Games, Including FPS and Jedi Fallen Order Sequel
Star Wars is awesome, but 3 teams from the same studio is a bit much...
I'd rather see some new original IP from them

Re: Poll: Do You Want Even More PS5 Marvel Games from Sony?
Spider-Man and Wolverine is more than enough for me. I'd rather see new IPs from Sony's other studios.
Re: Fans Ponder Whether There's an Upgrade Path for Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PS5
As someone who owns both games already on PS4, I sure hope they can be upgraded without having to buy this entire package.
What I really want is just 60 fps for Uncharted 4 (don't even need a native PS5 version) just like Horizon.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Games for August 2021?
Not a great month, but 2021 has been a pretty good year for PS Plus games so far.

I rate it 'good'.

Re: Dreamy PS5 Controller Colours Cosmic Red, Midnight Black Announced
Both look good, but I actually prefer the stock white one.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Returnal?
I've loved it so far. Played for about 15 hours and fortunately haven't run into any technical issues.
There's a bit of a steep learning curve, but once you get into the rhythm the gameplay loop feels very rewarding.

Looking forward to this one. Hopefully it lives up to the previews.

Re: PS5 UI Revealed in New State of Play Presentation
I want to see what it looks like when a trophy pops!
Re: Sony Launching New PS Store on Web and Mobile This Month
I certainly hope they mean that only PSP, PS3, and Vita titles are being removed from wishlists and not all wishlists entirely.
I have 50+ games wishlisted on the web store and use it as an easy way to find if games I'm interested in are included in any of the current sales.
Re: Poll: What's Your New PlayStation Trophy Level?
I went from 26 to 394
Re: PS5's Crazy Cooling Solution Should Make for One Quiet Console
The console is definitely big, but it looks like the trade-off in size was worth it for better cooling.
Re: PlayStation Trophy System to Be Updated Today on PS4, Also Coming to PS5
Not sure how I feel about these changes. Currently level 26 with 71 platinums, wonder what that will translate to in the new level system?
Re: PS5 Pack-In Game Astro's Playroom Is 'Four to Five Hours' Long
Definitely more substantial than I was expecting for pack-in game. Will play through this while waiting for Demon's Souls to download on launch day.

Re: Microsoft Ponders More Video Game Company Acquisitions
With Microsoft turning up the heat, and going all in on Gamepass, Sony definitely needs to form some sort of response.
Obviously they can't beat Microsoft in terms of sheer purchasing power, so they need to make smart moves and strike with precision.
Re: PS Now September 2020 Update Adds Resident Evil 7, Final Fantasy XV, More
Pretty happy with this month. Never played RE 7 and I've had my eyes on Observation for a little while.

Re: Skull & Bones Practically Walks the Plank as Game Skips Next Fiscal Year
You never like to see a game get cancelled, but I have a hard time seeing this game sell well enough to justify its lengthy development cycle.
Re: Feature: Days Gone - Why Sony Bend's PS4 Open Worlder Is Essential a Year Later
Just recently played through Days Gone and really enjoyed it. IMO Its metacritic score of only 71 is definitely too low.
