I thought Modern Warfare was great. Cold War was ok, but I did really enjoy the zombies mode in CW. I could never get into it previously.
Being in Australia, getting burnt with low player counts, the one thing that is great with COD is that you know you are going to get a full server if you are playing the main multiplayer modes.
COD is also a generally meaty package. Loads of maps, loads of guns, campaign, zombies, multiplayer. You can understand why some folk just buy this and FIFA and they are done for the year.
I'll probably pick it up closer to Xmas as I am waiting for Battlefield 2042. That will be my MP game of choice for now (though I do have reservations about that after the beta).
A bit annoying. I pre-ordered the Gold Edition to get the PS5/PS4 version so my son can play it on his PS4 as well. I wouldn't have spent so much if I had known.
Pre-ordered it a while back (yes, I know), and played a couple of hours last night on PS5. Looks nice, but does seem pretty janky. Loads of clipping and weird animations. Certainly a beta in the true sense of the word. No disconnection issues.
I love Battlefield, but usually not the larger maps. It was fine, but the map is huge and there is nothing worse than running towards the action for a minute to be picked off by a sniper or the ever present helicopters.
I couldn't find a page to select your server, so I am hoping they have that on console for the full release as being in Australia it is pretty crucial.
Ok if you like asymmetrical (I miss Evolve). Quite enjoyed it on release. However, the lack of support, limited modes and death spiral meant that after a couple of months I could never find a game.
Pre-ordered this and played the closed beta on my PS5. Enjoyed it a lot. Some really memorable gameplay. Dropped an anvil on a couple of players heads and killed them stone dead. Looking forward to this.
In Australia with a digital PS5. Can't lie, $125 for a PS5 game does smart a bit. I'm certainly limiting my purchases. I did buy Demon's Souls and Mile Morales at launch. Plus I bought Cold War (my son can play that too on his PS4 so that splits the price). I don't regret those purchases. I did pay $100 for Cyberpunk and put 50 hours into it but will not play that again until the PS5 version comes out. So I got my value for that.
I regret spending $100 on Outriders. It is good, but hasn't held my interest. I thought it was online co-op like Destiny or The Division, but I have rarely found anyone to play with. The online is either broken or too fragmented.
Honestly, I like the look of Returnal and Ratchet & Clank, but not enough to put down $125 for those, so I would be holding out for a deep sale.
I pre-ordered Chivalry 2 for $50 and the beta was great. Looking forward to that one. I imagine my next full price purchase will probably be Battlefield.
Tempting. I only played Mass Effect 2 and Andromeda. ME2 I think especially towards the end, was one of my gaming life highlights. Fantastic story. I even enjoyed Andromeda (I did get it for $10 cheap years after it came out). That had some really good gunplay and powers. It was a solid 50 hours.
On PS5 it is better than PS4 but still not good. My biggest bugbear is when I want to recommend games that I have already purchased to my brother. He'll ask me what the price is and I can't tell him because once you have purchased a game you can never really see the current price again.
Plus I find it hard to tell the PS5 and PS4 games apart. You can filter the game list by platform, or if you search for the game you then need to click those ellipses. Always leaves a little panic on if I have bought the correct version or not.
I used to look down on COD as a rule, but when you look at what you get for your money, it is pretty beefy. Decent campaign, a well supported multiplayer with numerous modes, zombies, integration with warzone, season passes, split screen. So for your run of the mill punter, it is a no brainer to pick that up once a year to play with your mates.
$125 in Australia on the PS store. Doubt I would buy it at that price. I did buy Demon's Souls at full price as it was my first PS5 game, but future games will have to be big, marquee releases for me to pay full whack.
True. I just traded my PSVR set into EB Games as I honestly couldn't be bothered with the hassle of setting it up with my PS5. One cable for the new one will be a godsend.
Fallout for me. Loved Fallout 3 and 4. So I will be annoyed not to get Fallout 5. However, not annoyed enough to buy an X-Box. I'll just switch to something else on PS5 to get my RPG fix.
Only got half way through on my PS4. Would love a PS5 upgraded version but would want my save to carry across and for it to be a free upgrade. Talking about new missions etc, makes me think there won't be a free upgrade.
Never played Black. I remember getting Killzone 2 for the PS3. I had been away from gaming for a few years and it blew me away. My character was sitting in a trench surrounded by Helghast and I was terrified. Fantastic game.
Game on PS4 was ok. I put 20-30 hours or so into it before I uninstalled. The main reason was because I could no longer find a match, the player base had evaporated. The joys of Oceania servers. It probably needed to be F2P.
Premise was good, but the graphics were pretty janky, as was the shooting, and the games depended on getting matched with a Predator player who role played properly. The Predator could steamroll a team in seconds if they were the tank build and played it that way. Or if they didn't know what they were doing, they could be dead in seconds as well. So the games were highly unpredictable.
It does make me wish Evolve had succeeded as that game was a lot more polished. Criminal how they screwed that game up.
Played a couple of hours. Was ok. In Australia so not good that the closest server is Japan. Tried to get in a few multiplayer games, it just timed out and gave me an error. Uninstalled it and will wait to hear if they put in some Oceania servers.
Tried to download the update but my game was corrupted so I had to delete the whole game and download again. That's the third game on my PS5 SSD that has done that since launch.
Pre-ordered it at EB Games (Australia). Picked it up day one. Half way through Demons Souls, at the last campaign mission on Cyberpunk. Only played an hour of Miles Morales, and probably sank the rest of my gaming time into Black Ops Cold War.
Had one massive hard crash yesterday with it. Was playing Black Ops multiplayer and it crashed. It emitted a high pitch screech and I had to switch it off at the wall. Luckily it was fine after a reboot. I thought that was the end of it.
Had a couple of issues with the SSD. Had to install Rainbow Six Siege PS5 version three times before it would work. The install seemed to be corrupted. Had Cold War PS5 version installed, and I removed the campaign after I had finished it. One of the regular updates then wouldn't install, so had to reinstall it all again and have just left on the full install.
Obviously the usual crashes with Cyberpunk. Every couple of hours it would crash.
I rarely buy battle passes, but picked this up for Cold War to play over the Xmas break. Will be a one time thing. I'm around level 35. For me got a few skins that I wouldn't have been able to get otherwise since I don't play zombies or have warzone installed. It isn't really worth it unless you put a lot of hours into it. I usually just play Nuketown 24/7 playlist. Multiplayer is a lot of fun. I still think MW is better but for me it is pretty close. Time to kill is still quite low for a black ops game.
True. I am enjoying Cyberpunk at the moment. Plus Cold War for my multiplayer fix. That means I have left Demon's Souls at the side for now, and I only have 1 hour in Miles Morales. Not enough hours in the day.
I can understand if you can only afford 2 games a year, FIFA and Call of Duty are probably a good pick. Throw in a game like Destiny 2, and those three could keep you busy forever.
@nessisonett Yes, Virtue's Last Reward was great. Loved it on my PS Vita back in the day. For some reason, every game I play with a character creator, I end up making it look like Alice.
Great game but yes, it is toxic. Loaded it up on the PS5 after not playing for a year or so to see how it was. Playing solo on casual. First game it was 5-4, one round win away from victory. I was the last player on my team left alive, against two opponents. Killed one, planted the defuser. My team mates screamed into my ear, he's coming right, so I wait for an attack from the right. I get flanked and shot from the left. Someone starts screaming why didn't I hear him coming from the left. I say because everyone was screaming in my headphones and I couldn't hear a thing. I get called a f*gg*t multiple times, the next round someone team kills the name caller, he then just screams loudly into the mike for 5 minutes until I remember how to mute everyone. We lose the game.
I got it day one and have been playing it on PS5. Janky yes, but enjoying it 18 hours in. The biggest issue is that I get a soft crash every hour, so you need to regularly save. The crashing is starting to become a pain. Even after the latest patch.
I played it a fair bit when it came out. Pretty rough but entertaining. However, on PS4 (in Australia mind you) it seemed dead after a month or two. I would load the game, wait 10 minutes in a lobby, try again a few times and nothing. So, every few days I would do the same and still no players.
Evolve brings back memories. I enjoyed the game a lot and thought it had potential. Absolutely killed by bizarre pre-orders, microtransactions and lack of support from the devs.
Tricky one for best PS4 game of the year. I never played any of the big releases this year like Ghost of Tsushima, FFVII or The Last of Us Part II. I voted for Dreams.
I think Hunt: Showdown is my most played PS4 game of 2020.
For PS5 I have gone for Demon's Souls as best game, Miles Morales for best graphics and Cold War for best sound (multiplayer sounds great on headphones).
Was going to wait for the PS5 version, but I cracked yesterday and pre-ordered it. Have it downloaded now on my PS5 and look forward to playing it. After buying Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, Cold War, and not Cyberpunk that is definitely the end of my game buying for a while.
Enjoyed the Campaign for what it was, Zombies isn't really something I have played, but the multiplayer I am enjoying.
I would still say Modern Warfare is better, but the TTK in Cold War is slightly higher but pretty quick. I like the smaller, tighter maps and play mostly Hardpoint, Domination and Control. I don't like the more open maps like Miami which is a snipers dream.
You make a deal with the devil buying this every year, but I'm enjoying it for now.
Have about 250 games in my PSN account. Time is always the limiting factor for me.
On PS5 launch, I said to myself I would only buy Demon's Souls and then focus on that. Caved in and got Miles Morales as well a day later. A few days later I caved in again and got Cold War.
So I have around 40 hours with Demon's Souls and 15 hours in Cold War and only 1 hour in Spiderman.
I see Cyberpunk on the horizon and I think I will definitely leave that until the PS5 version comes out. I need some space to finish the PS5 games I already have.
I'm enjoying Domination and Hardpoint. Pretty frantic. Like the smaller maps and more objective play. Hate sniping.
It doesn't top Modern Warfare as I thought that campaign and multiplayer were great. Though the Cold War campaign had some nice moments. And it looked good on the PS5.
The TTK in Cold War isn't as bad as I was expecting. It is good to jump in and play a few rounds.
Got the same with Battlefield V that I had on my external HDD. I played it a couple of times. Then got Cold War so deleted it. Still showing on my menu.
@wiiware I'm holding off until the PS5 version comes out as well. This is a game I want to be playing with the best version I can so will wait for all the kinks to be ironed out.
Haven't had too many problems with my launch PS5. I did have a hard crash on Cold War, and a couple of soft crashes on Mile Morales and Demon's Souls but nothing too bad. I've switched off trophy videos to save space. I've only got eight games on my external HDD and also I haven't really been using rest mode unless I have been downloading something overnight.
Getting humped by Flamelurker at the moment. Was so close a couple of times and he just slammed me. Same as my time with PS3.
I wish summoning was a bit easier like Bloodborne. If I just had to ring a bell that would be fantastic. I can't seem to work out how to summon someone to help me with a boss in Demon's Souls. Can never see any markers on the ground. The joy of playing in Australia.
@Nightcrawler71 used to love a good strategy guide. Halcyon days.
A game like Cyberpunk at least makes more sense for a guide as I don't think the main story or side missions would change too much. Not like your average live service or multiplayer game.
I remember I had the deluxe edition of Demon's Souls on the PS3. Came with a strategy guide. For some reason back then I traded the game. I would have loved that guide now with my PS5 replay.

I sold my PSVR when I picked up my PS5. I just couldn't be bothered with all the cables getting it working on my new PS5 so I just got rid of it.
Looking forward to picking up the next gen version in a year or two.
I think Astrobot and Ace Combat were my two favourites. Worth the price of admission alone.

Pretty painful if that is the case, for those of us down under.

Re: Poll: Did You Request a Cyberpunk 2077 Refund on PS5, PS4?
I got it day one and have been playing it on PS5. Janky yes, but enjoying it 18 hours in. The biggest issue is that I get a soft crash every hour, so you need to regularly save.
The crashing is starting to become a pain. Even after the latest patch.
Re: Cost of Fixing Cyberpunk 2077 Irrelevant, Says CD Projekt RED
12 hours in on the PS5. I do seem to be getting that regular soft crash every 2 hours. Regardless of what I am doing, it will crash like clockwork.
Enjoying it but it does remind me of Fallout 4 in its jank and my need to loot everything that is not nailed down.
The map has that Ubisoft vibe of a million markers and the annoying GTA tendency of phone calls every 5 minutes.
Feel like I have just scratched the surface. Certainly would benefit from the PS5 bells and whistles graphically and crowd/traffic density wise.
Re: NFL Running Back Marshawn Lynch Joins Predator: Hunting Grounds

Funny, I downloaded the PS5 version a couple of days back, went to play a game to see what the update was like.

Good old days!

Basically have Plus for the multiplayer and the sales discounts. I rarely download the free games though I do add them to the library.
Haven't even looked at the PS Plus Collection on the PS5 yet. Too much new stuff to play.
I would say the only Plus game I have played regularly is Rocket League. The rest are in the library.

Have to admit, Cold war looks pretty nice on the PS5 as well.
Re: Talking Point: What Were Your Most Played PS4 Games?
700 hours on Destiny.
300 hours on Rocket League
250 hours on Destiny 2.
Surprisingly, around 150 hours for No Mans Sky, Elite Dangerous, For Honor, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, Rainbow Six Siege.
A lot of 75-100 hour games like Battlefield One, Modern Warfare, Battlefield V, Monster Hunter, Witcher 3.
