As you may have seen earlier as part of our The Elder Scrolls VI story, PlayStation Blog has launched its annual Game of the Year, which is made up of a whopping 15 categories this time. Cyberpunk 2077 – out this week – is excluded from the vote due to its irritatingly late release date, a problem which has also prompted plenty of discussion here at Push Square Towers. (We’re including it – more on that next week.)
There are tons of categories, spanning Best Narrative to even Best Use of the DualSense Controller. It’s obviously quite fun voting in these, so make sure you hit up the PS Blog and cast your ballots. You’ve got until 11:59PM on Sunday, 13th December to pick your favourites, so what are you waiting for?

Geee i wonder Whats gonna win eyeroll
A real shame that Hades isn’t out on PS yet, it’s a shoo-in for GOTY for me this year. Last time a PS first party was GOTY for me was probably Uncharted 4 back in 2016. Even in 2018, GoW and Spider-Man are fantastic games but Red Dead Redemption 2 and Celeste both topped them imo.
I'll never understand why GOTY lists cut off before the end of the year. VERY weird.
Anyway, FFVII Remake is still my favorite release of 2020.
Where do I vote for Resident Evil 4?
If P5 Royal is an option, better believe I'm choosing it
Something that's only out for two and half weeks in the year it's released certainly seems silly to include as a contender for game of the year in my opinion.
Nioh 2. My favorite new franchise introduced during the PlayStation 4 generation.
@zupertramp Especially a game with over 60 hours of content.
My Holy Trinity of PS4 games :
1. The Sims 4
2. Dragon Quest Builders 2
3. Portal Knights
Best Narrative - 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
Best Use of Dualsense - Astro's Playroom
Best Accessibility Features - The Last of Us Part II
Best Graphical Showcase - The Last of Us Part II
Best Art Direction - 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
Best Soundtrack - Final Fantasy VII Remake
Best Sound Design - The Last of Us Part II
Best Multiplayer - Ghost of Tsushima
Best Sports Game - MLB The Show 20
Best New Character - Miles Morales as Spider-Man
Best Independent Game - The Pathless
Gaming Moment Of the Year - Other: Finally getting Streets of Rage 4
PS4 Game of the Year - Other: Streets of Rage 4
PS5 Game of the Year - Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Most Anticipated Game - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Studio of the Year - Insomniac Games
Don't own a PSVR so didn't vote in that category.
Already vote, ghost of tsushima, final fantasy 7, doom eternal, and persona 5 royal is my fav games this year 😃
@nessisonett. Celeste is not even best indie games so i dont know what you talking about.makes no sense.darkest dungeon is way better than Celeste best indie games ever.and yes god of war is the best.word up son
1. Hades
2. FF7R
3. Ghost of Tsushima
1000. Animal Crossing
@playstation1995 Yeah that’s an opinion. That’s why I stated my opinion by saying it was my opinion.
Due to the pandemic, I have finally be able to to play the games in my backlog. It's been an amazing year of gaming for me. My top 5 games that I played this year are:
1. The Last of Us (yes, I had never played it before. I was on an LDS mission when it first came out and I didn't get around to it until this year. I think I can say it's one of, if not the best game I have ever played.)
2. The Last of Us: Part 2
3. Nier: Automata
4. Ghost of Tsushima
5. God of War
@playstation1995 Dude, people are allowed to have a different opinion than you. It does no good to tell someone they're wrong for loving something that you didn't enjoy. If there's anything that this world needs right now it's more civility and empathy.
@B_Lindz I also finally got round to The Last of Us this year. It was really good but I didn’t connect with the plot really much at all. The gameplay loop was great though, felt like a survival horror on rails.
Tricky one for best PS4 game of the year. I never played any of the big releases this year like Ghost of Tsushima, FFVII or The Last of Us Part II.
I voted for Dreams.
I think Hunt: Showdown is my most played PS4 game of 2020.
For PS5 I have gone for Demon's Souls as best game, Miles Morales for best graphics and Cold War for best sound (multiplayer sounds great on headphones).
@nessisonett In response to your first post, I couldn't agree more about Celeste. I really enjoyed God of War, but Celeste got me right in the feels and it was my GotY for 2018 as well. I still find myself thinking about it now and then.
As for The Last of Us, I have a friend that had a similar experience. If you're interested, I have heard that those that didn't love TLoU enjoyed it a lot more when they played it a second time after giving it some time. Who know? You may enjoy it more down the road. If not, well, there's always Celeste. Haha!
I appreciate there is best PS4 GOTY and best PS5 GOTY. Makes sense.
Well I can have my 2 favourite games GOTY thats why haha GoT and DS
Studio of the year definitely Insomniac, no contest
Edit
For people whining about this or that game should be GOTY and that game doesnt deserve yadi yadi. Who cares?
What matters is what your favourite is. It's worth more that overall results. Majority is not always right and definitely doesnt define who you are or what you should like. We are individuals and everyone is different.
Stop b*ching about useless result that will affect only people who dont know who you are, and may not even care. Studios and devs are big enough to care about themselves.
The childish arguments I see are so embarrassing tbh.
Games of 2020 that I even got were Spelunky 2 and TLoU2 but I haven't even gotten into TLoU2 yet. I'm still working through my backlog. Going through Witcher 3 and Persona 5 (not Royal) playing them really slowly. When will I ever be done with these??
I gave 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim all the votes I could.
@B_Lindz lol, i read your post as you were on a LSD mission, and not LDS, thought that was funny
How hard is it to just do game of the year in January once all of the year has happened so you actually know what game of the year was
It's like ending a boxing match and round 9 and just saying yeah he probably would have won
I think Final Fantasy VII Remake is the only game released this year I've played...My backlog extends at least 2 years if not more.
All I learnt was that I really don’t play much of the major PS4 titles as I think I could only vote for like 3 categories as I actually had played the games.
That and I do need to get back to 13 Sentinels.
@Emperor_Rusty Hahaha!! Oh man, that cracked me up. Yeah, that would have been a very different two years of my life. I mean, I served in California, so you're not far off. Haha!!
Top 5 this year (including games not released this year).
TLOU II
Ghost of Tsushima
The Outer Worlds
Astro’s Playroom
What Remains of Edith Finch
@B_Lindz I had started Nier Automata when it first came out, for whatever reason I stopped playing it though. I went back to it this summer, then beat all the main play throughs. Easily my all time favorite game now. It was such an incredible game.
When I think back on 2020, there really wasn't a lot of truly great games released this year, thanks in large part to COVID.
The only games that I truly loved were Ghost of Tsushima, Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Crash Bandicoot 4, honorable mention goes to Astro's Playroom because I've only played 30 minutes worth of it on a friend's PS5, can't wait to fully play it.
Top 10 PS4 Games of this Generation for me are:
> God of War
> Bloodborne
> Persona 5
> Danganronpa V3
> Dragon Quest 11
> Ghost of Tsushima
> Days Gone
> Dying Light
> Cuphead
> Little Nightmares
Some honorable mentions: Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, MediEvil Remake, A Plague's Tale, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 7, The Evil Within 2, The Wolf Among Us & Tales from the Borderlands.
Also loved Persona 5 Royal for some of the gameplay improvements and added story, but I felt the game got a bit drawn out toward the end that I just wanted it to be over, but I never had this issue with the base version, so P5 over P5R, even though I loved both versions.
Never sure whether to vote on these as I rarely play games in their release year. So I recommend Bloodborne, Witcher 3, Dark Souls 3, Dragon Quest XI S & Return of the Obra Dinn which were all wonderful this year.
The only 2020 game I played specifically on PlayStation was GENSHIN IMPACT (300 hours and counting, no shame) so I give it all the awards
@B_Lindz I've felt for a while that gamers have been slightly more fortunate that many with the lockdown. We have a hobby that nicely dovetails into this messed up year, making a difficult time a little easier.
Glad you had a great gaming year too and made in roads into your backlog. I feel the same. Enjoy.
I've not played it yet but Cyberpunk 2077 for every category.
For me the best game I've played this year is Persona 5 Royal. I would even say it's my game of the gen. Although Ghost of Tsushima is a close second.
As for my most anticipated game some might think it strange to say Hogwarts Legacy. For some reason I'm feeling nostalgic for the days when I was eagerly anticipating Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on PS2.
Easiest one was the Best Accessibility Features = The Last of Us Part II. Whatever you think of the game its accessibility features were incredible and should be then benchmark other studio's copy so that more people can enjoy games.
