Re: Review: R.B.I. Baseball 18 (PS4)

I for one am fed up with the ultra-realistic sports sims, and would love to see more arcadey games. Games like Madden and The Show are so intricate they're as much effort as playing the actual sport without any of the health benefits.

People greatly exaggerate how short The Order is. It took me at least 8 hours to get through the game, which isn't long, but it's not that short, either. Granted, I explore everything but I can't see it even being possible to make it through the game in 5 unless you're actively trying to just finish it as quickly as possible. The problem is that there's no replay value.

Well executed game? Sorry, I have to disagree. A lot. I have fun with it, and there are plenty of great elements; I've been playing it almost every night lately--after I put it down for months--but even if it didn't cost FIVE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS to make, the game would still be mediocre. As it is, it's inexcusable. For one, they tell you nothing about how to play the game. They tell you nothing about how the strikes work and what you need to unlock certain things--like how to level up past level 20; the stats for weapons are not explained (for instance, what attack means as opposed to impact) and there are plenty of errors in the things they do try to explain (for instance, stating that a certain scope adds range and increases recoil, while the bars by the stats illustrate the opposite...so which is it?) The crucible is one of the least balanced things I've ever played, and it uses your equipment from PvE but doesn't explain which stats actually don't matter, like the “attack” attribute. Everything in the game is basically thrown at you and the developer says “figure it out”. The results at the end of strikes and other team-based missions are always incorrect, as it almost always says everyone has zero precision kills, no matter how many you achieve. The story is lackluster, to say the least, and acts more as an excuse to kill things. All of the patrol missions are either "kill enemies" or "go to this spot and hold square". The enemy designs are interesting, but there are essentially only 5 or 6 enemy types in the entire game, with different palette swaps. They even got lazy with the bosses, and just made every single boss a bigger version of an existing enemy. There are invisible walls all over the place, giving you the illusion of an open world, but you really can't explore much of anything (not that it would matter, because all you would be doing is killing more things for no reason) The difficulty in the game is one of the worst offenders, as it doesn't provide any legitimate difficulty. Rather, it just throws more enemies at you and makes them take twice as many hits. The loot system is jacked. The enemy AI is jacked. Weapon balancing is jacked (but hopefully that issue is fixed) The Tower is a mess. There's no matchmaking for Raids, so I honestly couldn't tell you how they are, as I've never gotten the chance to play one. Most of the stuff that should have been in the game in the first place Bungie says is "on the app" or "on the website". Clans, groups, story and lore, etc. The voice talent is mostly mediocre, but that might be due to the fact that the story just isn't there, and the script isn't great, so the actors couldn't get into the part. Some of the issues with the game I can't even understand how they made it past the alpha stage. Seriously, you can't run and reload at the same time, because this is still 2001, apparently. Sometimes you just die instantly because you enter a part of the map where the game doesn't think you should be. Other times you die because an enemy can spawn inside of you. There's no friendly fire, but your teammates can accidentally kill you if they hit you with their speeder. What's worse is when you're on a bounty, these kills actually count against you if you're trying to survive a strike or something.

Re: Round Up: Your Ultimate Guide to PS4 Firmware Update 2.00

Still waiting on a better system of organization....that's all I've been asking for since the beginning. Every other console has a way to create and organize your games into folders, even the 3DS and Wii U, and we all know how far behind Nintendo is when it comes to that sort of thing. Get it together, Sony. They might as well not have even done anything to the home screen because it's exactly the same disorganized mess where we have to scroll across your recently played games to find anything.

Re: Sony's Irritatingly Opposed to Organised Gaming Shelves

grenworthshero

@Gamer83
People who care about how their collections look usually aren't the type to buy digital. That's the point.

I think this is a horrible idea, besides just making my collection look even more jacked-up. Why use the same font and color as PS4? It's going to confuse people and maybe make some people overlook that it's for PS3 when they only own a PS4 or vice-versa.

Re: You Don't Have As Many PSN Trophies As This Guy

grenworthshero

I agree with @Grockumus
How does anyone have enough time to be able to play over 1,000 games? And 611 platinums? That's just INSANE. Even if you have constant money rolling in and don't have the need for a job, how can you have time for ANYTHING else? Like, you know...life.

Re: PS4 Firmware Update v1.52 Stabilises the Situation

grenworthshero

When are we going to get support for themes and customization? I'd like to be able to organize my games into folders and change the theme instead of the boring blue background. Also, why is there hardly anything in the PlayStation Store? I still have to go back to my PS3 to check if there are any new releases or PS Plus games.

Re: Review: Killzone: Shadow Fall (PlayStation 4)

grenworthshero

Couldn't have written a more accurate review myself. Objectively this is a really good game, but compared to Killzone 2 and 3, it fails in almost every way. It controls much smoother than Killzone 2, but they tried to give the game variety and I think that's where they failed. There's a huge emphasis on stealth, and that really brings down the entire package, especially when it isn't handled as well as it could have been.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your First Impressions of the PS4?

grenworthshero

@get2sammyb
I'm finding lots of different ways to get lost. The mission objective marker is none too helpful. They tried to shoehorn stealth elements into a game that has nothing to do with stealth. The campaign barely even feels like Killzone anymore and it's a real shame. I loved the campaign in 2 and 3 and even though most of the characters were pretty stereotypical and shallow, at least they had some personality. I'll reserve any further Killzone comments for the review since this is about the console itself, and I haven't yet finished the campaign so maybe it'll get better.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your First Impressions of the PS4?

grenworthshero

The PS4 itself looks great. The menus, new features, everything so far feels wonderful. Well, except for the day one PSN connection issues.

The campaign in Killzone, on the other hand, is a major disappointment so far. It's a mess trying to figure out what the game is trying to be. No more sense of being in the thick of battle, and no more comrades around to help you. Instead, you're essentially a faceless supersoldier, gunning down waves of baddies. Oh, here's some forced exposition. Now go shoot some more things. The controls are kind of clunky now, and I can only imagine how they'll feel coming back to it late in the PS4's life.
