Re: Naughty Dog: An Uncharted Collection Would Be Really Cool to Have on PS4

WickedKnightAl

@sinalefa Yeah, they probably are.

But the Wii U is backwards compatible, and the Gamecube games are all iterations that have superior versions already on or coming to the system (Mario Kart: DD, Mario Party 4, Smash Bros Melee, Animal Crossing, etc.)

The same goes for original Xbox, whose biggest hits were the Halo installments. They're also still supporting the 360, whereas the PS3 only started matching its sales recently; having a winning console right now is a perfect opportunity. If there's any console with a number of unsung hits that the converted need to play, it's the PS3.

This kind of saddens me, but the fact that Shuhei was willing to say it out loud like that tells me they have confidence in the method.

Still, the notion of titles like rain, Sound Shapes, Echochrome, Unfinished Swan and Puppeteer not getting made would be... unfortunate.

I wish there would be another thatgamecompany-type success story where investing in a creative team would yield massive success. For that, I'm expecting good things from Pixelopus (Sony's newest, internally-grown team).

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Ditch E3 Stage Shows Like Nintendo?

WickedKnightAl

First off, they did have a showing on their channel. The internet just chose to ignore it, the same way people seemingly romanticize everything Nintendo does.

Second, the Treehouse requires the conference to be going on as a prerequisite. It's only exciting because it's the E3 Nintendo Treehouse. A stream is a very mundane thing that can be running any time, really. Theirs only looked exciting because they were piggybacking off of hype that was already there.

Third, why not just do both? Sony and Microsoft can easily run their own pre-recorded streams, and maybe sell off specific coverage to GameTrailers, IGN or Gamespot (or keep it exclusive to their own channel, though lending certain segments to the highest bidder could offset the cost of making it). Have their conference and run the pre-recorded stuff exclusively on the internet, to let the kiddies still feel special. Showing they have pockets deep enough to grab some live reactions while setting up a complex program would completely undermine Nintendo only having one of those things.

Pretty much anything Nintendo can do Sony can do better.

Re: E3 2014: You Should Expect More PS4 Announcements at GamesCom and TGS

WickedKnightAl

This right here is why people are so stupid when they talk about who "won" E3, as if it's just over like that.

Sony is the most international of the Big 3 console-makers, and if they focus their absolute attention on America's biggest conference, they won't be maintaining that; after all, they've taken the west quite decisively. That fact only motivated Microsoft and Nintendo -who will naturally be no-shows at Gamescom- to fire every gun they had at once.

Yet you still see a constant stream of entitled complaints that Sony didn't do the same, as if that made sense for their overall strategy.

Re: E3 2014: Why Do PlayStation 4 Games Keep Getting Delayed?

WickedKnightAl

Playing their cards close to their chest is smart. Let the other console-makers rush out some announcement while still failing to match the PS4's sales.

And when these highly-refined, heavily-polished titles start trickling down (hopefully in time for Christmas), no one will be able to challenge Sony's dominance. A rushed launch, rushed announcement, or rushed anything can only end painfully.
