Re: Ubisoft May Have Put Watch Dogs Down for Good

>and better cast of characters.

What? The tone and the characters were better in the first game. It was a bit clunky though and WD2 refined that as well as improved all the mechanics and the sandbox.

I don't even need another Watch Dogs as much as need WD2 60 FPS patch. Ubisoft gave me hopes with all these FarCry patches and just a few days later ruined those hopes.

Re: Game of the Year: Push Square Readers' 20 Most Anticipated PS5 Games of 2026

@Llamageddon it is not exactly a ticking clock. The time moves only when you complete/progress a quest, so you have to choose which quests you do. Additionally, quest can be completed in multiple ways. As I see it, those mechanics aim at replayability - you can have many completely different playthroughs.

Sure, there are plenty of huge, open world RPGs where you get to do everything over the span of hundreds of hours (and I'm a huge fan of them) but a lot of people voiced fatigue of those games so I think this approach might actually really click with many players.

I thought E33 was amazing at many things but NOT combat. It was eye-catching but otherwise pretty lame. I don't mind turn-based combat when it's done right but all the characters just standing in one place... choosing their attacks like it's a card game... additionally ruined by soulslike "press parry at perfect moment", which defeats the idea of turned-based combat. After like 8h of playing I switched to story mode just to get through fights as soon as possible 😐

Re: Talking Point: Does PS5 Have a Sequel Problem?

The_Elder

Interesting that the mainstream media are starting to admitting there is a problem (or at least ask the question if there is) but will still circle around the issue coming up with their own reasons for it, like the sequels are "too safe"...

The actual reason behind the sequels not being as good as the predecessors is pretty obvious but mentioning will either get you banned, or your comment removed and you'll be called "trolls", "vocall minority" etc. The truth is this "vocal minority" is actually the silent majority who will not participate in comment sections but will simply not buy this kind of games. If you compare the sales of all the titles from the poll (add TLOU for good measure), each of these sequels sold worse (or much worse) than the original and each suffers from the same issue - characters and writing being influenced by the same politics, whether you want to see it or not.

Re: Poll: Is PS Portal the Biggest Surprise Hit of the PS5 Generation?

The_Elder

The article and the poll are a bit tendentious, pretending to asking questions if Portal is a hit but really assuming and trying to convince you it is without any meaningful arguments.

I can agree that the update is a great surprise for the people who already own the device. Good (and uncharacteristic?) for Sony to improve something they already sold.

And I agree it sold better than I expected - because I didn't expect people to buy it, hehe.

It's definitely not for me. I didn't buy a high-end 65" OLED TV to play on a tiny handheld. And if I wanted to play on a portable device, it needs to be able to install and play games offline.

Still better than Switch though as it at least can play good games.

Re: PS6 Could Be Less Than Half the Price of Microsoft's 'Very Premium' Next-Gen Xbox

The_Elder

We will see if new Xbox even releases at all. Microsoft can make a U-turn in a matter of months. They've already increased the price of Xbox twice this year, significantly increased the price of game pass and now they increased the price of XDKs by 33%. It kind of looks like Microsoft wants to get out of the gaming industry but needs to ensure the tax write-offs and insurance claims have proper backing.

Re: Preview: Heat Is Everything World of Tanks Isn't and That's What Makes It a Blast

As somone who spent 850h & €1k in World of Tanks, I do NOT RECOMMEND this game. It's very addictive and great at the beginning but they keep ensh*ttify your experience. Pay to win tanks, paid "boosters" which on higher levels are simply required to make progress, immersion breaking - silly tanks (e.g. spider tanks), horny-bait sexy commanders, ads everywhere. Don't waste your time and money.

Re: Preview: Why 007 First Light Is the Most Exciting Game of 2026

The_Elder

Really unimpressed by the gameplay and the performance was awful - even though it was a demo. Low framerate, poor graphics (especially character faces), janky gameplay. Overscripted car pursuit scene feels a lot like Mafia: The Old Country.

NPC's AI looks dumb - setting a wheelbarrow on fire makes the person next to it blindly stare at it and nobody else from security is alerted? And he can just move along the building wall unnoticed by anyone?

During fight enemies just run at him or aim at him without shooting giving him time to throw his shotgun at them or take their gun... Cars explode just from a little gunfire.

Honestly the only thing I liked was multiple conversation options. Didn't really spot what the options were but it gives me hope there are multiple ways of approaching missions.
