Almost five years after the console's launch, it's been confirmed Bethesda will finally provide Fallout 76 with a native PS5 version. The online game has always been playable via backwards compatibility, but wasteland explorers had to put up with last-gen visuals and framerates. From next year, there'll be a true PS5 version of Fallout 76.
There aren't any details on how much better the title will look and run on current-gen hardware, so expect resolutions and target frame rates to be shared closer to release. It's releasing in early 2026.
Between now and then, Fallout 76 will be updated for free with the Burning Springs expansion. This adds The Ghoul from the Amazon Prime TV series to the game, and Walter Goggins reprises the role. You can see some clips taken from the new content in the trailer above.
The expansion includes the biggest expansion of the map in Fallout 76's history, with the new area housing "the brutal Rust King, battle desert Deathclaws, and join up with friends in two new public events". It'll be available from 2nd December 2025.

People really still play this
@KillerBoy yes and it's a decent game these days with lots of content to get stuck into
I thought that game had flopped badly
@DualWielding It never flopped, it always sold well and its a very healthy playerbase due to great almost NMS level updates.
Would not get my money!!
@KillerBoy @DualWielding It's actually the most popular fallout game if I'm not mistaken. I tried it & hated it but it makes sense why they'd still be supporting it after all this time, money talks.
With core audience and 15€ monthly sub it is going strong
Is that footage of the native PS5 version?? It looks roooooough.
I skipped the game at launch but played it 5 or so years ago, I believe that was before the major expansion that added NPC's. Cost me £7 or something!
I actually found it surprisingly decent. I just played it solo and generally enjoyed the environmental story telling and audio logs in various locations that told a story in the absence of NPC's.
Got my money's worth.
I wouldn't pay £50 for it or anything like that, but at a sale-price I'd recommend people give it a go if they like Fallout.
I do recall exploring a house that some whale had built and it was pretty impressive, but I had zero interest in getting into all that.
If I had interest remaining in it, I'd be happy with that news even without any particular graphics or performance upgrades; the biggest point of torture for me in it not being PS5-native was it needing to double down on storage space every time it needed to download a patch.
Needing to clear out up to 90GB of my storage in order for the game to install even the smallest hotfix got old very, very quickly; PS4 back-compat is very much not live-service compatible on PS5, and it's honestly a bit of a shambles that it took them this long to address that.
I wonder how this will run because the ps4 version has frame drops all over the show on the ps5. It's not drastically better performance wise than it was on the ps5.
Walton Goggins?
🤪
I was into 76 for a little bit. Played through the campaign and dabbled online a bit - I actually enjoyed the old Battle Royale mode it had. I haven't touched it since Wastelanders, though. Maybe a PS5 version would be the reason to boot it back up.
I think there's even a part of me that liked it more than 4... but still much less than 3 and NV.
Did they announce if there's an upgrade path for PS4 owners?
@KillerBoy Some how
I can't stand online games, bring on FO5
I really like Fallout 76 played all story quests solo probably the best map they have ever made. return to it every time there's some single player content added
better than fallout 4 in my opinion
Is the garbage leveling system fixed yet? No more stupid perk gum packets like it's black ops 3 zombies?
F76 is empty and boring. It's a downgrade from F4 and on top of that you get all the issues that come with playing online.
Got the game for free with PS+ essentials a couple years ago, it's remained installed since then! I was one of the major doubters I'll admit but it just sucked me in royally! It's a wonderful online community much alike to NMS.
I've never spent a penny on it (monthly sub or to purchase Atoms) and I've gotten sososo much free stuff with it by just playing. I've scarily clocked nearly 2k hrs in it.
Fallout 4 and 76 will be re-released for the next 50 years
@KillerBoy yes and it's pretty good with a great community
Tried it as it was free for a few hours but quickly got bored.
Can't beat the PS5 version of Fallout 4 might even give that another punt soon.
