Is your wallet feeling light after all the new releases lately?
Prepare for it to stay that way, as Sony has revealed the first few trading cards from its PlayStation-themed Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair super drop.
Available from 27th October in both non-foil and rainbow foil formats, the cards will span several of Sony’s most recognisable properties, including The Last of Us, God of War, and Horizon Forbidden West.
Before we dig into all of the details, let’s just look at the cards revealed thus far:
Gorgeous, huh?
This isn’t the full lineup, as many of the cards will remain secret until their launch next month. However, writing on the PlayStation Blog, merchandise honcho Grace Chen explained each card will feature “iconic characters, key locations, and items”.
This is all part of Sony’s approach to expanding PlayStation beyond the boundaries of its consoles.
“We’re always looking for ways to connect our players with some of their favourite PlayStation games – that also includes playing with their favourite worlds in other ways outside of their PlayStation console,” Chen added.
The full list of sets is as follows:
- Secret Lair x The Last of Us Part 1
- Secret Lair x The Last of Us Part 2
- Secret Lair x God of War (Greek)
- Secret Lair x God of War (Norse)
- Secret Lair x Uncharted
- Secret Lair x Horizon Forbidden West
- Secret Lair x Ghost of Tsushima
Each set will cost $39.99 or $49.99 for non-foil or rainbow foil variants respectively. We suspect, much like with the Sonic the Hedgehog and Spider-Man sets, you’ll also be able to buy a bundle including everything.
Which packs will you be buying and why? Keep a close eye on your overdraft in the comments section below.

I want all of these but I think if I was only getting one I'd go for the Uncharted ones.
Hope there's plenty of stock and these don't get scalped!
Nah, I’m good. Sony are getting enough money from me with their subscription service.
They do EVERYTHING besides making a new all stars game. How can this company be this dumb man
Oh no. I don't play/collect MTG but I wanted the Final Fantasy set because I love FF. Missed out on that. Then the same with Spider-Man which is launching now.
This is also one I would love to collect but yeah. I try to stop myself and be like, why? I would literally only collect, not play, so I try to ask myself if it's worth it. I dunno.
@Cry_Zero Well, because no one bought the previous PS All-Stars. I don't think it's dumb.
I think a traditional fighter featuring PS characters from a company like ArcSys would be good, but if it was a choice between that or Marvel, they went with the right one.
@Veritas7Ax I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I really love the idea of trading cards. (Also been staring at those One Piece ones! And Lorcana too!)
But do I really need them? Haha.
The card looks kinda nice but i don't buy TCG cards or play Magic the Gathering.
I personally don't understand what's the fun of collecting TCG cards. And i think the community / scene looks kinda disturbing after I watched videos of people had a fist fight because they wanted the same Pokemon pack. Then some chaos at McD Japan because they offers Pokemon cards with people left untouch foods everywhere like it's garbage, which really sad af thinking there's so many poor kids and families around the world who could eat those foods

But yeah, no thanks Sony. $40-50 or in my currency around 600K-800K IDR for a pack of cards is too much for me. I rather spend them for a brand new game, manga, or just for daily foods.
"Ellie, Brick Master"
Hell yeah.
@get2sammyb I just don't like the mentality that they're justified not making another entry in a series because it historically wasn't a commercial success.
It's a failure of marketing more than anything. It's not the player base's fault for not buying it. It's the company's fault for not figuring out how to make it appealing. There's always an opportunity to turn something niche or obscure into a success. Just look at Souls. Or Yakuza.
If there's a market for Super Smash Bros., there's a market for PlayStation All-Stars. I don't see why a traditional PlayStation fighter would sell any better on its traditional merits alone. And while Marvel definitely has more inherit market appeal, I'd be kinda surprised if Tokon is significantly more successful than All-Stars was. If it is a smashing success, all that tells me is Sony's fanbase can be responsive to a fighting game with the right marketing and pre-release engagement.
@RoomWithaMoose I guarantee to you, with every ounce of my being, that Marvel Tokon will be many, many, many, many times more successful than PS All-Stars.
I would love to have the uncharted and last of us cards, but I'm not playing the game so really no use for them.
@get2sammyb @RoomWithaMoose I think a All-stars could really work well this time to be honest, especially now they can get Astro Bot as the main character in their promotion.
Sony has enough franchises they are not using, Astro bot proved how many they have. It they throw all those in the mix and do their best to get some third party franchises in the game it could be really successful. Smash bros had always been a celebration of Nintendo's past. PlayStation should treat it as the same.
I enjoyed All -stars, the only thing I disliked was that you had to finish your opponent with a special move.
Boy do I loathe this crossover frenzy everywhere.
They basically the whole identity of a game/series/whatever for a quick buck, and it's disheartening to see the majority of people getting excited just because they see something they recognize from another brand.
I will buy them all. Foil. Yes i am part of the problem and i dont care.
"Oh No!"? What's the problem? 🤔
I'll buy Spiderman 2 in a sale rather than some shiny cardboard I reckon.
It feels like MTG has become the fornite of trading cards. I used to collect years ago before all the crossovers started, now it's just a cash grab scheme.
Makes you wonder, because it's Hasbro, whether they'll ruin DnD with crossovers.
@Enigk I mean, Nintendo actually sell cardboard as a console add on 😅
Actually rare to see Sony acknowledge Greek Kratos outside of GoW Valhalla.
Magic the gathering fanbase and Pokemon fanbase = WW4 🤑🤑🥸🤑🤑👀
Is it me, or are the Magic crossovers happening super frequently lately? I've never played Magic, so I've never followed it and therefore never heard much about it. Lately though, it's like a new crossover/collaboration is being announced every other week.
@Cry_Zero the first PS All-Stars game didn't exactly set the world on fire.
@get2sammyb how about a Playstation All Stars in the style of Marvel Tokon and made by Arc System.
@Cry_Zero it's a lot easier to say "yes, you can use our IP" and make a bunch of money from that than it is to make an entirely new game. The first one didn't even do that well to warrant a sequel.
@get2sammyb https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2013/06/12/shuhei-yoshida-never-say-never-on-a-playstation-all-stars-sequel-insomniac-creating-an-xbox-one-exclusive-is-part-of-growing-up/
It sold over one million units, and Shuhei Yoshida said it did "quite well". Definitely not as successful as Smash Bros, but I don't know where people get the idea that it completely bombed.
@Lowdefal Aha that's fair, certainly could have done better. I'd be all for a sequel though.
@UltimateOtaku91 That's the dream for me, hell I'd accept Marvel Vs PlayStation as well
@get2sammyb Thems some cool vibes ya got. My vibes tell me otherwise.
Nathan, young Kratos and old Ellie go hard!
@get2sammyb over a million sales is definitely not no one. The mechanics were great, the game just needed to be polished a bit more. They kinda half assed it. BUT look at smash bros. The series grew a lot aswell. Sony should stop throwing the towel every time something doesnt reach10 million sales
Recently bought the ff7 box.
My first magic the gathering.
Does anyone know.
Why all the art looks like someone used ai.
At least the naruto and dbz cards look original hand drawn.
Wish more stuff like Jak or gravity rush was used. The current set just has no interest to me. The fact that the only old Sony ip here is gow is disappointing
@get2sammyb Oh these are getting scalped to high heaven, dude.
The crappy part is that instead of making a bundle with the characters they're dividing it into several, probably with cards no one wants, just to stretch the price.
Wow MTG has changed a lot since I played in the 90’s.
I want all the Kratos ones, but they're way too expensive for me.
@get2sammyb wishful thinking they won’t be scalped. TCGs are particularly inflicted with the sickness that is scalping. Hope everyone who wants them can get them without being hindered by immoral scalpers
Not for me, I'd rather play the actual AAA exclusive games they're based on.
Wake me up when they actually decide to stop the milking and restart creating the type of games that made Playstation successful...
@Shinnok789 GoY releases in less then a week and we got Death Stranding 2 a few months back. Astro Bot dominated the awards last year and Helldivers 2 is one of the best live service games this Gen.
We have people angry about CARDS.... because they think this somehow slows down vital resources and comprises game developme-- ಠ_ಠ
Yeah, no.
Some of these cards are April Fools silly and they know it. It's half the jokes people make about each series to begin with. I think it's worth it for that alone. That and it's pretty damn smart! Limited release cards are FLYING off the shelves. I think almost anyone with really popular properties can get in on this if they strike fast, especially with a collaboration.
About the only actual bad new is... of course the scalping.
This wouldve been nice as an actual reward ( as in a freebie ) in their new Rewards things. But instead they made the Rewards an exclusive merchandise shop and decided that a ridiculous €40 / €50 for some cards is a decent price. So i'll pass on the merchandise and the cards.
Not gonna lie, I was fairly hopeful it would be bombastic cards featuring their older characters.
I've wanted to collect all the video gamey magic cards as someone that doesn't understand MTG at all, but these feel a little boring display wise.
I don't know what Magic the Gathering is but the cards look nice.
